BoddaH1994
Yep, typically the further away from Halloween, the better. Plus Fridays are typically less crowded than Saturdays.

MarketingExpress
According to the calendar (see link) this is the first night of HH, but on the flip side it is high school football season. You might be ok until about 10:00pm or so. http://www.visitkingsisland.com/visit/visit_calendar.cfm

Lisa1992
It's usually always crowded the 1st night. It don't get real bad until about 10pm or so like what marketingexpress said. Saturdays are always going to be worse though. So yes friday is your best bet.
Touchdown
The other thing to remember is this, do what the opposite of what the crowd is doing. The crowd runs to the big coasters early, then does the Haunts later. If you get to Urgent Scare right after opening, and then make a loop hitting every indoor house around the park odds are you will be done in a little over one hour (well 1.5 if US is really a 20 min attraction,) then do the outdoor haunts. You should be done somewhere around 10. From then, hit the coasters, if the ride isnt called Firehawk it should have a near walk on wait on a Friday night by then.
