BoddaH1994 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I realize that other things may qualify as being 'special events' but I just kind of picked the major ones. What was your favorite? Quote
Monroe Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 You should have included "other" because my best was just spending time with my daughter at the park. (That is always a special event in my book) I was out of town for all but I think one event. (Rick Wallenda's Tightrope Walk) If I had to choose, I would have to say the Carmen Electra in Flashback: Totally 80s, because of the reunion that occurred that week end. There is nothing like family and reuniting with those you have not seen in a while, and missing those who you can not reunite with. I think you did this on purpose, but I do not see Diamondbacks announcement up there. That, I think would be the hands down winner. Well good poll any ways. Monroe, who did not want this post to sound negative, but is too lazy to change it at this time. Quote
Gordon Bombay Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I gotta say, KI really went all out this year. I remember when I heard the Knievel news. I got a call from Boddah as I was driving down I-71 coming home to Cincinnati from Athens for the weekend, "Hey, KI is making rumblings that they're going to announce something big today." At first I thought . . ."Oh yeah, big coaster time" but was completely surprised to hear "ROBBIE KNIEVEL TO SET WORLD RECORD...". That memorial day was by far one of my favorite days at Kings Island. I got to see many good friends I hadn't seen in awhile such as Avatar and my KIC friends who I didn't see when I was at school and go to see and photograph a really unique historic event. Don't get me wrong, the other events were great and KI never stopped failing to surprise me, but Knievel was just wow! Quote
BoddaH1994 Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 You should have included "other" because my best was just spending time with my daughter at the park. (That is always a special event in my book) Maybe after the season's over we could have "what was your fondest memory of 2009?" thread. That'd be really appropriate. I think you did this on purpose, but I do not see Diamondbacks announcement up there. It was done on purpose. Although it was excellently executed, it wasn't the same type of event in my book. You could also argue that the JDRF walk and several others should be up there, but I thought the main stream publicity stunts were more appropriate. "Oh yeah, big coaster time" but was completely surprised to hear "ROBBIE KNIEVEL TO SET WORLD RECORD..." I was told by the 'powers that be' that I was to be ready for a big announcement within the hour. Naturally my first thought was also that they'd announce the 2009 Rivertown project. Boy was a surprised. One of the biggest downfalls of doing what I do is the fact that I get my hands on information, piece by piece, and never really have any surprised. I tell you what, this shocked me incredibly. After the press release went up and the broadtext went out, I almost didn't feel safe in the same room as my Blackberry as it was absolutely exploding with calls, emails and texts. Quote
