FOFreak
On Beast there are two "Gold Pass" lines. Do you feel that these are just in the fact that the non-pass guests do not get to ride in thier prefered seat? I think the Gold Pass line on BLSC is just fine, its the ones on Beast and Runaway Reptar that kind of make me mad!
Beast1979
Uhh, Yea. They should know that it's a gold pass lane and find another seat dude.
FOFreak
Look at it in the perspective of a non-passer!
Beast1979
A non passer wouldn't have a prefered seat!
Phantom Theater
I thought The Beast got rid of its gold pass lanes.
FOFreak
^^Don't assume that! I have a prefered seat!
gigacoaster2k
I vote yes. I paid $150 for my '08 KI platinum pass.. if I'm going to be spending that much money on a pass, I expect the full benefit package. I too used to be jealous of such things, until I went platinum and got park benefits I'd never dreamed of. Forget the regular season pass, save your pennies, and go gold or platinum. You will never complain again when you see what it can do for you.
Avatar
The reason we decided to get season passes was so that we could get Speed Lane opportunities. We loved it and came often then last year they only offered it on Saturdays only, so our attendance dropped as we really liked coming on Sundays. We tended to come this year when we did on Saturdays and really disliked the much larger crowds, which I think is what contributed to less visits
The Interpreter
If you think it unfair that people who pay extra to get privileges at the park get them, do you also think that those who cannot afford to go to the park at all should get in free while those who can afford to pay should pay? Terpy, just sayin' (and who in fact supports pay by the ride as opposed to pay one price and who thinks that parks would be much, much nicer places if there were no such things as season passes)
windshawne
I didn't know what a season pass was until I was 19 and able to pay for one myself. No frills that I remember, just a way to get in free for the year. Did the park always have them, or did it go a few years in the beginning? Oh boy, memory lane..season pass holders back in 1985 entered through the gates to the left. I remember the last time I went as a season pass holder, we went through there and went right in, while everyone else waited to go through the main gates. I guess that was our "perk"? I had a pass a couple years ago as a gift, and haven't had one since.
The Interpreter
When Kings Island opened, there were no such things as season passes. The people who go day after day and ride ride after ride were, for the most part, not in the park...as they had to pay each time they came. The park catered more to the out of town visitor, who came once a year, perhaps twice, to a very, very special place. This was even more true of places like Disney, where the good rides were E ticket rides...and were priced accordingly. Lines were shorter...and believe it or not...I believe the average guest paid far less in relative terms than they do today. If you think parks went to pay one price to benefit the guests, you are tetched, to be nice about it. And now, pay per ride attractions are sneaking back into the model....as is paying for front of the line access, at parks from Universal to Dollywood to Six Flags. windshawne
I kinda thought so. I remember the pass I bought in '85 was sold for a whopping 30 bucks, and we thought that was high. But after about 3-4 visits, no big deal. We used to go through that side entrance and hit the demon first. Wow!! Now I'm getting all nostalgic and stuff
FOFreak
All I am saying is that I would prefer to see the Gold Pass Cars on Beast and Rugrats Runaway Reptar, changed to something like Gold Pass Lanes like on BLSC. I tottaly agree about the privliges you recive by paying the money for Gold Passes. I'm not arguing about that at all!
gigacoaster2k
I totally agree about the privileges you receive by paying the money for Gold Passes. I'm not arguing about that at all! I wasn't trying to be mean. I tend to come off that way sometimes, I just like to get straight to the point, whenever possible. Angie, who unintentionally makes puns and is now guilty of a Terpyism.. I agree and disagree with you (for the first time ever). Pay per ride would cost me a fortune!!! I have 2 kids so it would be pay 3 times a ride for people like me.... But before season passes, I must agree that the one or two visits a year were very, very special. That feeling I had as a child is something that I have never lost, no matter how many times I see an amusement park on the horizon. But if it wasn't so special for me as a child, I wouldn't be where I am today!!!
Monroe
I would tend to say that it would be hard and a little more expensive to do pay per ride at a park like KI but it can be done. It would also benefit the more aggressive park goers. For example, There would be a general admission of say $20 some attractions would be included but the more popular ones would have an up charge. That would lessen the line on those attractions but those who do not want to, or can not ride will not be charged for it. In this case it would be cheaper for most of the park attendees. There is a park that you can go to and enjoy yourself for about half the price of KI and it is a pay per ride park: http://www.knoebels.com/rates.asp
The Interpreter
...where ride all day passes are available early in the season and on weekdays. You will find you can get MUCH more done on a weekend at Knoebels than at any comparably busy park with pay one price.....and for far less....in addition, Knoebel's Amusement Resort has very reasonable food prices. Imagine that! In 2008, Pay one Price was available ONLY the following days: May 23, 30... 10 am - 9 pm June 9-12, 16, 17, August 25-28...11 am - 8:30 pm Monday thru Friday June 18 - Aug 22 ... 11am-10 pm plus May 24, 31, June 6, 7, 13, Aug. 29, 30... 11am - 10 pm
Monroe
..The food is actually good too. Believe it or not, they have their own version of SOB. It's called "Flying Turns" they started to build it in 2006. The bobsled style coaster was designed and built in house and was going to be opened in 2008, but is still not open. The only up side is, no one has been hurt on it yet.
