Kings Island Employee Memories.

One of my favorite memories was the one employee ride night I had a chance to go to. It was the year Tomb Raider opened and they had it and The Beast open after hours. Everyone went straight for Tomb Raider for some reason so I jumped on Beast and rode it 3 or 4 times in a row with just a 1 or 2 train wait each time. There was so much energy and excitement, it was a whole different experience than during the day when guests are riding it.

Another memory is from working at main lockers in the water park during a bring-a-friend-free day. We were absolutely slammed but there were only 2 of us working that day (I think it was the first BAFF day, so they weren't expecting the crowds they got) and at the end of the day we had piles and piles and piles of keys to sort out, so we lined up all the baskets along the back of the booth and started 'shooting hoops' with them. Security called because they thought we were throwing them at each other and wanted us to stop, but laughed when I explained what we were actually doing. I don't know why but that memory in particular just embodied the fun and friendship that was the prevalent mood among employees.

And ... last one for now (I'm sure I'll have more - 2 summers leaves a lot of memories!) was helping out a Spanish family. I took spanish in high school (don't remember a lick of it now) so I had "Hablo Espanol" on my nametag. They stopped and asked for directions and were obviously frustrated because they couldn't find anyone to help them since they spoke almost no English. The relief and joy on their faces when I gave them directions in spanish and they could finally understand what was going on meant so much to me.

Hmmmm,

Filling Gold Star in Mason with KI Employee's after closing time. Having Chili, Coney's and Beer up and until cut off time.

The employee parties that the park would have.

Tossing people in the Elephant Fountain or Beer Gardens Lake for special occasions. (ie - promotions, etc)

Walking through the park after everyone had gone for the day and the absolute peacefullness.

Learning more for being a Morning Person, Cashier Foreman, Assistant Supervisor and Supervisor than I learned in College.

The friendships that I've been able to maintain for going on 20 years with past coworkers.

I was a Merchandise Supervisor, and I remember those night as well. It always seemed like the keys multiplied. Even if we did have a hard day we always had fun putting them back.

Also I loved closing Thrill-seekers every night and walking on International Street when the fountains were off. It was just very nice and peaceful, just not like it is when the park is open.

One day we were super busy at Nick U. (because it was the final Paramount Sale Day) and our store was stripped bare. It was awful, so we started restocking at 9 and we were there till about 3ish. But it was the best time ever, because at some random point in the night the other supervisor that was there with me grabbed an umbrella and started dancing to Rihanna's song Umbrella. It was great.

Oh also the haunted walks from Nick U to the Coney Ride Photo Office........creepy!

And of course filling Steak-N-Shake at 1 in the morning with everyone in the merchandise dept.

My memory of working at Kings Island was in the summer of 92. I lived in Grove City Ohio, about 1hr and 30mins from the park. I drove back and forth each day just to get the experience of working at an Amusement Park. I started the summer in Merchandise, I worked on International Street in the Emporium. I was there about a month and I then got to go to rides which is where I wanted to be all long. My First ride I got to work on was the Kings Mill Log Flume (always ended with a right wet shoe or left one depending which side I was on) I fell in that dang flume so many times I can't even count how many times. Then I got to go to White Water Canyon and be on that crew for a while. Which by far was one of the more fun rides to work back in the day. All day long you would just sit in the towers waiting for the rafts to float by and hit the button and soak all the riders. Other rides I filled in on was The Beast, Kenton Cove, The Racers, Adventure Express and The King Cobra. All the employee parties back in the picnic grove and the ride nights riding coasters until 2 am what more could a guy who loves coasters ask for. If you ever get a chance to work at a park I promise you it will be one of the best experience you could ever have or ever want to have!

Oh Steak 'N' Shake :D i think those have got to be the best. Especially after Haunt, when we fill the entire "barred-off" area with bloody ppl :P Since it's no fun to go without your makeup.

But my alltime favorite night there was on the last night of Haunt this year. We have completely packed the place! Minus 3 tables, 2 of which were from "normal people" already in the restaurant. and all of a sudden, one of our boys tries to get in in a costume. Mind you he has foam like apendages so can't get the door open! One of the waitresses was completely scared out of her mind from him! it was HILARIOUS!
