Guest rcfreak339
It makes me feel like my chest is about to explode....Make it like ELToro airtime hills..... :)
King Maple The Tree King
amusementsafety.org/cedar_fair/kings_island.asp "Would we ride The Son of Beast roller coaster? Not a chance. Should you ride it? We'd highly suggest that you skip it when visiting Kings Island. There's plenty of other rides for you to enjoy at this venue... ...and even some employees suggested not riding the Son of Beast roller coaster---even they know how rough this ride is.." That website is about as credible as Wikipedia cited on a college term paper (that means not credible at all). I would not take the opinions of the ASO website for even the smallest grain of salt. There is a fantastic team of state inspectors and work men who inspect that ride and maintain it EVERY day before it operates for the public. They are among some of the most highly trained and professional individuals in the industry. Kings Island's Wood Coaster Maintenance team and the rest of the KI staff is a real treasure in the industry. Beav. It's useless arguing with these people, There was a point once where you were just as naive as those "people." (Quiz show anyone? )
violakat03
... and now back to your regular programming. If CF randomly decided to redo an entire ride, I'd nominate Flight Deck. I really do believe it's the hidden gem among KI's coasters and with a little bit of love could be a star once more. I agree with whoever said to add a second, higher lift hill to it and run it through SOB's structure. That would make it exciting and unique, and since it's already a great ride (especially in the back of the train), it would push it into the "awesome" category for many. Right now it's a long, boring hike to a short ride. I was never impressed with the Top Gun theming, and as Flight Deck it's a complete joke, because other than that awful grey-on-grey-on-grey, there's nothing that says "Aircraft carrier" about it at all. Redesign it into something more suitable to the swinging trains and wooden terrain, though I can't think of anything right now because I'm finals-fried. My second nomination would be Son of Beast. The only reason I ever rode it was for the novelty of the loop. While I can understand the removal of the loop, even though it saddens me greatly, they could have taken the opportunity to redesign more than just one short section into a bunny hill. There is no airtime to speak off, just two giant helices, one that's unnecessarily violent and one that's painfully slow with the MCBR before where the loop was. I agree with the idea to make it an El Toro-type tracking to smooth it out. Why not take out that horrible first giant helix and make it more of an out-and-back with some of those Voyage-type 90 degree banking? SOB's on some prime real estate and could be turned into more of a terrain coaster with a little bit of effort. A removal of the helices and extending it out into the woods more would probably still keep it shorter than it's daddy but still in the top rankings for length. It really is a beautiful coaster to look at (I love seeing all that wood rising high above the north side of the park) and could have been amazing, but it was poorly executed, and CF I think missed an opportunity to correct that. Other changes I'd like to see would be FOF-type trains on Vortex (not those new Intamin ones, they look awful IMO), and a return of recaR. Guest rcfreak339
I always thought the major draw was the loop.....I enjoyed it more when it had it's loop but now I rarely ride the thing...Theres two options for the ride IMO: 1:Redesign the whole ride 2 Tear it down and build a whole new coaster
The Interpreter
Quite frankly, if part one of your option two happens, I see a strong possibility of possibility three: 3. Tear it down and put a garden in its place. The destruction cost for Son of Beast would be enormous. So much so, I'd be shocked if anything else went in its place with any deliberate speed. Especially given the current economic malaise and the debt levels at Cedar Fair...even more so given that they just spend more than a third of their cap ex at Kings Island...it's gonna be other parks' turns for a while. Captain Picard
I would give it away to who ever wanted to remove it. Habitat for Humanity or maybe the Amish could use it for something.
The Interpreter
Given that it is built of treated wood, I'd be stunned if Cedar Fair's lawyers allowed it to be given to anyone....sold to be used as a coaster, perhaps, but not given away for some other future use. Captain Picard
It would have been better with a photo of Jimmy Carter.
