Derek
Did/will the Royal Fountain on International Street have some major work? Derek
Shaggy
Yes.... still undergoing a complete overhaul. Guests probably won't even notice it come opening, but the fountains are the site of a big construction mess right now. Shaggy
Derek
Will they keep the pedestals? I really hope that they do keep them.... I really like the pedestals. Derek
Shaggy
Yes, but they have been removed for the current renovation. They are being re-furbished too. Shaggy
adam12
That is good to hear! The fountain was in terrable shape, compared to 10 years ago. 1992 was the last time I had been to PKI before last Fall. -adam12
Dane
Shaggy how do you know this?
Beastfreak
During one week while the park was on weekends I remember seeing the fountain drained and guys going from pipe to pipe with a computer on a cart and sticking a pipe snake or something down in them, probably a fiber optic camera to check where the problems are. I know they repainted at least the bottom of the fountain last year.
Shaggy
How do I know? I was told by park management. It is not a big secret. There are lots of esthetic improvements for next year. There's another that no-one is talking about that may surprise and please some. And no, it is not a ride..... Back to the fountains.... there was a tremdous problem with the Fountain leaking plus the filtration and pumping system was completely outdated. Honestly, most will not be able to tell that much of a difference, but the thing is a mess right now. Shaggy
Dane
I know your just dying for someone to ask, Shaggy. So what is this other improvement you speak of?
Shaggy
Not dying for someone to ask. You'll soon see ;-) Shaggy
SML828
Hopefully the Eiffel Tower is getting a paint job...
Shaggy
It's not... this off season. Shaggy
fyrfyter
With any luck, all the falling apart and shoddy looking stuff will get major rehab work, and everything will look awesome when the park opens.
DegenRider
There's another that no-one is talking about that may surprise and please some. And no, it is not a ride Ooh the excitement is building!
fyrfyter
One can only hope these improvements that are not rides, are major aesthetic improvements. Getting rid of a bunch of the blacktop and installing pavers in different patterns for PKi themes, would be a neat place to start. Still, updating areas of the park, as well as renovating them and making them look awesome would help too.
Beastfreak
Cement trucks came rolling in today to repour the fountain's base. From the street a retractable cement pumping truck could be seen reaching over the fountain pouring the cement. Such a great day out for those things. Sorry no pictures of that. Captain Picard
did you get some pics of this
adam12
I sure would have liked to seen that! If I ever loose my job I think I will apply at PKI! I would like to own an amusement park one day. -adam12
pki_guy
Wouldnt we all....?
heather6173
You know, I'm really glad they're keeping up on the fountains. If they ever decided to remove it to put in something else or just blacktop it over, that would be SUCH a huge bummer. That's one of my greatest childhood memories and probably one for everybody else...coming out from under the ticket sales roof and being absolutely floored by the whole image of the fountain surrounded by shops and the Eiffel Tower in the backdrop. Even now, it's just absolutely breathtaking!!
SOB_TOM
They have been working on that ever since December. Thats the earliest that I saw them working on it, and they were tearing the walls down, and looked like the wall was poured in certain areas. adam12
The fountain is only second to The Beast! The Eifal Tower, the fountain and The Beast is what Kings Island is all about in my book. -adam12
fyrfyter
I would say that the biggest thing about the fountain is the entrance to the park. Without the foutain, or at least some type of reflection pool, the entrance to PKi would be very boring. The fountain helps make the entrance exciting, by adding action, to what is normally, a pretty calm area, as compared to other areas of the park. Beastfreak
I'd just like to update everyone about the fountains. I didn't wonder onto international street during returner weekend, but the fountain bases (the big white things) where sitting out in the picnic grove and have been repainted waiting to be reinstalled. fyrfyter
So are the bases now all white, instead of the white and blue they used to be painted? I think silver would look good on them too.
shadow2k3
Hmm. I'll have to look out for that when I go and process my info. I know for sure that it won't be this weekend, but it will be soon. I think it's great that they're taking care of all this. It shows they care. ~Shadow~
adam12
I think it is great that they are reconditioning the fountian, I just hope the keep it as close as they can to how it was when the park opened. -adam12
Beastfreak
The bases definetly looked all white. Doesn't mean they won't be painted more later.
fyrfyter
Yeah, I thought about that, it could be primer, but then again who knows? I'm sure we will find out soon.
MarketingExpress
I can personally verify Shaggy's comments, I have personally seen the fountains renovation. the fountain itself should look quite nice when completed
