coaster_junky Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 so i just read the wiki page on The Beast and the only thing that it said that i did was that the second and third tunnels were joined and that they replaced the trim brakes. it didn't even mention anything about the trains being changed or the degree of banking being changed in the turn coming out of the first drop. sorry if i am in any way sounding mean or rude, it is just one of my peeves being wrongly acused of something. also sorry if i have every wrongly acused any of you all. oh and thanks longlivekingscobra for backing me up. LongliveKingsCobra Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 well seeing as how Haiku, sounds like Hyku, then well there you go, and I think it looks more cool spelled that way Quote
windshawne Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Whatever happened to the original trains? I've never heard.... Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 They still run on the ride yet today. The old four bench trains were simply rebuilt, as Gordon Bombay has in the past confirmed here. The company that built the trains originally has also confirmed this from time to time. Quote
windshawne Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Huh. They just seem smaller to me-but maybe that is because of the divider in the middle. Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 ...and the rock-hard high density urethane foam that was installed in the trains (and in every other Ohio operating wood coaster's trains) in the last two decades. Big Dipper was the last running Ohio coaster that didn't have it. It takes up a lot of space, and is very unforgiving. See also Rolling Thunder and The Georgia Cyclone. The PTC individual ratcheting lap bar also intrudes greatly on legroom. Quote
windshawne Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I seem to recall the original design being more comfy, but I figured it was age... Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Is it just me or does that ride seem to be running very very slow in that video. Quote
violakat03 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Is it just me or does that ride seem to be running very very slow in that video. I thought that too. I also noticed it's got wheels in a couple places, like the MCBR, to get it moving again if necessary. I know it can't just be the video, because it's definitely flying through the end helix. And it's waaaay better with all the tunnels. Quote
DropZone99 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 this is a link to a picture of the old trains: http://www.KICentral.com/history/photos/di...um=9&pos=13 this is a link to a picture of the old skid trim breaks: http://www.KICentral.com/history/photos/di...um=7&pos=28 i'm still looking for a picture of the old banking of the first turn so if i find one i will post the link. In the second picture you can see a photo thing with Beast logo behind it. It would be a great idea to bring that back! Quote
coaster_junky Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 does anyone have a link to a picture with the old banking after the first drop? Quote
kings_island~thrill is me! Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 does anyone have a link to a picture with the old banking after the first drop? Heres a video of The Beast before opening day in 1979.It has the old banking before the drops and it doesn't have tunnels on the helix. Quote

I agree with Angrybeaver, I wish they had something like that got take a picture with now-a-days. Kind of old school though nonetheless. Back on topic though, does anyone have a picture of The Beast's graveyard? Posted from my iPhone!!! Quote
