Jaredap88
obviously i know there are no cameras allowed on rides and things of that nature but what is their official policy on cameras/camcorders. i'm not talking about the little point and shoot cameras or little sony handycams im talking like decent mid-range cameras (with bigger lenses and higher quality). i'd imagine they're allowed but i haven't found anything official on it and i didn't want to make the almost 2 hour drive just to leave my cameras in the car to bake. if this is posted somewhere quite public...then.....my bad lol...thanks! flightoffear4thtrain
Cameras are allowed, just not on rides and attractions...
The Interpreter
But, but, but. Cameras are allowed for non-commercial use, and one must take care to realize that persons who appear in photographs you may take have not necessarily consented to your use of their likeness. Also realize that some parks (and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure was infamous for this) claim to not allow photography of the rides or riders by anyone not specifically authorized by them to take pictures...or at least they tried to prevent it. They were particularly zealous in enforcing this policy around what was then Superman: Ultimate Escape, for some reason.

Tomkatt7
, and one must take care to realize that persons who appear in photographs you may take have not necessarily consented to your use of their likeness. Really, that is weird I'm not going to try to site any laws, because I don't know, or follow any. LOL I have spoken to ONE Nascar driver about the whole photo issue. He lived on Lake Norman, and was always irritated by people boating up to his backyard, and taking pictures. He told me once though, that as long as he is out in a public place, all bets are off. If you are willing to be someplace that anybody can go, then you are agreeing that anyone can see you there, so photos are fine then. Being in a public place, is the same thing as giving your consent to be photographed. All the drivers that he associated with feel the same way. That may not be "legal", but it makes sense to me. As long as you aren't invading someones private space, and you are both allowed to be there, then all photos should be no problem. I don't know about Vegas though. I still think all photography is outlawed inside the casinos.
The Interpreter
Public figures, like race car drivers, are subject to different rules than ordinary folk, be it as to photography or libel and slander. The parks claim that your admission is your consent to THEIR use of your likeness in advertisements, etc. I don't see how they can logically extend that (or would want to) to that also being your consent to appear in the pictures of other park patrons. Tomkatt7
That is not good advice. Public figures, like race car drivers, are subject to different rules than ordinary folk, be it as to photography or libel and slander. Thats a good point too. I wasn't trying to suggest to go out and take pictures of strangers. If you are taking a picture of the Tower though, and someone happens to be on the edge of the frame, they would seem silly to try to sue, or raise any kind of stink over that. Hey, maybe I am dead wrong. It wouldn't be they first time. If someone had a problem with a picture I took, because they happened to be in a part of it. I would find it comical more than anything. I would probably delete it just to avoid confrontation, unless they acted really nasty about it. Are we talking about the same thing? Or are you talking about copyrighted things like the rides themselves?
The Interpreter
Rides are not copyrighted. The names may be, and at Kings Island, are trademarked. And if someone is not recognizable in a photo, there should be no problem. Also, these days, a lot of parents get very antsy if someone is taking pictures of their kids in kiddielands. Not a good idea at all...

The Interpreter
And what are the most important words on the Krages card? Here: This guide is not intended to be legal advice nor does it create an attorney client relationship. Readers should seek the advice of a competent attorney when they need legal advice regarding a specific situation. One can be totally right and yet spend months and months of one's life and many, many dollars defending oneself. The other side need not be right or even have the law on their side to sue. Tomkatt7
How about on ride photos? Here is one of my wife and me on SOB. I blurred out the people behind us. Not to be correct in photo rights, but just so people I haven't met would know which couple was us. My question would be. If the people behind us also purchased this picture from the park. They then post it on another site like this one. Would they be in some sort of violation for not getting our consent? Maybe guilty by the letter of the law, but probably not much you could really do about it. Now, having said that. I agree with you 100% on the kids. I would not post anything that had a picture of someones kid in it, by any means. That can get you into alot of trouble!!! LOL
The Interpreter
In that case, the other riders consented to their pictures being made by the park when they bought admission.... The other thing I MUST point out on that Krages card is probably this: ...In any case, when a property owner tells you not to take photographs while on the premises, you are legally obligated to honor the request. flightoffear4thtrain
Is Kings Island considered a public place....?
The Interpreter
Yes, Kings Island is a public place, though privately owned, and admission is conditional upon payment of a fee and the owner's consent.
Jaredap88
yeah i was more into photographing/filming some of the rides and scenery and obviously not really do anything commercial with them. i was actually trying to think of the best way to avoid photographing people so i wouldn't have to spend a lot of time blurring out faces...thats always a pain
raptor
The Eiffel Tower is a great place to take your camera. Cedar Point seemed to be a little strict on taking cameras on rides. I mean I can understand not allowing cameras on roller coasters, but please the train and the skyride - I can not see why they preach no cameras on these rides, 2 years ago I heard them say as I got on the train no picture taking allowed, this year they did not make that claim, I don't know if they changed the rule or just weren't advertising it like they have in the past, all I know is you can get a great shot from the sky ride. violakat03
I took photos from the train this year and the ops never said anything to me, even when they were sitting directly in front of or behind me. I also took pictures from the riverboat ride, sky ride, observation tower and giant wheel. The ones from the sky ride came out the best but there were several good ones of Maverick and Millie from the train. As for taking pictures and video, I'd say take whatever you want. You'll know the 'limit' when someone says something to you about it. If someone says "hey, did you just take a picture of me?" then do the considerate thing and review your photos to see if they are indeed in one of them. If they are, ask their permission and delete it if they don't give it. I've never run into this but there's always a chance, especially involving children. I take a lot of photos at any park I go to and I've never once had an issue with another guest or the park having a problem with it. The two big no-no's that are exempt from this rule (a.k.a. don't even try to take these) are on the ride and photos of the screens that show on-ride photos. The on-ride photos are considered copyrighted by the park and taking a photo of them is a copyright violation. Taking a photo on the ride is considered a safety violation and is seen as just as dangerous as not securing your lap bar because if you loose your grip, your camera becomes a loose object. They will remove you from the park for either if you are caught.
The Interpreter
I think you mean taking pictures FROM or ON the ride, not of the ride. Except at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, I have never seen any park freak out for taking pictures OF a ride.

windshawne
Very interesting pamphlet. In one past position, we were very discouraged from being photographed, however, out in public, how can it really be stopped? Someone talented in photoshop can really do some damage to someones reputation with a photo on the internet...I've seen it happen. As far as going onto abandoned property...well, that to me is pretty risky and quite dangerous.
