Video of Lion Country Safari and Kings Island from 1992

Featured Replies

I came across the following video on Youtube, it highlights the park in 1992. Among many things shown in the video are about 3 minutes of footage from inside the monorail looking out onto the Wild Animal Habitats!

This is a simply amazing video! Thanks to Geminibuzz on Youtube!

It can also be seen here:

UGH! This is one of those videos where the cameraperson just must keep moving, moving, moving the camera. I have never gotten sick on any ride, but I cannot watch something like that. I nearly threw up in the first minute or so. That was enough.

And now you know how to make a Terpy sick. Ugh.

Then you...REALLY need to fast-forward to minute 2! The ride on the monorail is much more appealing...and stable!

Thanks, but no. I will listen to it, but the part I fast forwarded to was even worse. Why must amateur videographers think they must pan, pan, pan constantly?

Judging by the cinematography of this video I am guessing the creator went on to film this year's very successful “John Adams” HBO mini-series.

as a cinematographer myself this is quite poorly shot.....neat video though...but i must admit i feel a little sick. it also doesn't help since i just got up....but oh well. but seeing as how im so into videos 'n' such im sure i'll be doing similar videos of the park this year (obviously without the lion country safari) so hopefully i can do it without making everyone sick though.

like i said...other than the sick feeling it gave me.....really neat video...in all the searching i did on youtube i never really found anything like this...so good find

Even though everyone wants to complain that the video is shaky, I want to thank you for sharing this Cory. I love old videos like this, it gives you a look back. Thanks :)

For fear of being panned, panned, panned by the critics! ;)

I never got to see the Safari. This is an excellent video find, Cory! Now, I wonder what exactly occupies the land where this attraction used to be?

^^^ smarty pants!! lol

I figured flight deck and SOB occupies that land now... right???

The monorail still operated during Flight Deck's first year, but closed at the end of that season, 1993. The monorail ran either through or close to (I can't remember which exactly) the area that Flight Deck occupies, but the terrain there wasn't conducive to animal displays, so very little, if any, animal display area was affected by Flight Deck.

Cool video Cory! I've never seen the Safari, so this is a first for me.

Thanks a lot for posting that! 12 days after that video was shot I made my first visit to the park in 17 years with my aunt, uncle, and their two kids. I wish so much we had made it over to that side of the park that day to ride the monorail.

Nice find Cory! It's too bad the Lion Country Safari ride is gone now.

At about 50 seconds in I think it is the monkey noise you can hear from Adventure Express. That definitely just got me excited.

At quiet nights working at SOB you can hear that noise and all of us would get the biggest kick out of it.

^I'm not so sure about that. I don't think they had monkeys in '92, I'm pretty sure they all left when they got rid of Monkey Island. Plus, where they are at that point in the video would have been close to AE, and with that being AE's second year the monkey noises would have been in full effect. But I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time!

They need to throw those monkeys out of the park at the start of the movie.

No climbing on the railing!!!!

:D
