TN: New Law Means More Inspections For Amusement Rides

Featured Replies

..."Prior to that incident, we were trying to get legislation passed," said Dollywood's Director of Safety and Security Robbie Fox....

The article's headline referred only to amusement PARK rides. That is NOT correct (and yet another example of a headline not agreeing with the story):

...Inspections will take place twice yearly for fixed parks and randomly at traveling attractions....

Well at least they seem like they will be inspecting fair rides better. Those things scare the crap out of me since they are not build into the ground! So good for Tennesse.

I wonder if they looked to the Ohio Department of Agriculture`s Rides Safety Division when they were developing their inspection program.

A little known fact to most people, but all rides in the state of Ohio have a bronze plaque that must be posted in an area visible to the public. This plaque, about two inches tall by three inches wide is like the rides license plate. Every year, after a ride passes its initial inspection in the spring, it gets a new colored sticker with the year on it. You can see an example of this below the information sign in this image. The ride pictures is Pipeline Plunge at Coney. The sticker on the plaque was from the 2007 season, as the state had yet to inspect the ride for the 2008 season as that picture was taken in March of 2008.

yea, i know the feeling, a few years ago i went to ride "the fireball" at our county fair and after every ride cycle the carnies would go and re-tighten the cables keeping it from falling.
