UnrealNightmare
So on our way down to Florida this year we are stopping at SFOG. For those of you who have been there I would like to know what are the must does. I am planning on riding every coaster so those you can count out. I want to know what else the park has to offer. We canceled Dollywood and picked SFOG because we are stopping in ATL and Dollywood would have been about an hour out of the way. That's a lot of time considering we only have ten days and we are buying the six park flex tickets. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
AintNutinElse2Do
Mindbender for sure, Batman clones are always good. The rapids ride is great, Acrophobia is as good or better than Drop Zone. If they have Monster Mansion open GO! If you want to see how rough SOB could be ride the Georgia Cyclone. If your mad at your head and want to smack it around ride Ninja. Of course hit Goliath and the Wheelie is a great classic.
DropZone99
I would go to Georgia Cyclone first, then go to Acrophobia. Next make your way towards Superman and stop at Dahlonega Mine Train and Wile E. Coyote. Once you get done with S:UF go to GASM and Ninja. If you like Enterprises, SFOG has a nice one across from Ninja. After your done with Cotton State Fair Section, go to Lick Skillet and get Deja... Oh wait... If it's hot go ride Thunder Canyon, if not just go to Gotham City. Mindbender is amazing! Get in as many rides as possible! Batman is also an awesome coaster, just like Mindbender; it's very forceful! I would say go ride Freefall but ugh, it's gone.. So go to Goliath! Backseat, as many rides as possible! After about thirty or so rides go to Georgia Scorcher, which is my favorite standup coaster I've ridden. Most the times I've gone to SFOG the park was pretty dead, but if it's busy I highly Recommend getting a Flash Pass, it's totally worth it! Hope you have a great time, and your lucky! I'm not going back to SFOG til' June or July!
violakat03
I'll second the Flash Pass. We bought the one that cut 75% of wait time off. On a busy weekend in early August, we waited no more than 10 minutes for any ride, and that was Goliath in it's inaugural year. We spent two days there, the first day with no flash pass and the second day with it. During the 5 or 6 hours we were there the first day, we managed to get Georgia Cyclone, S:UF (2 hour wait!!), GASM and Ninja. We hit everything else on the second day in about 4 hours. I don't remember riding anything other than coasters, but this was 2 1/2 years ago and we were on our honeymoon, so a lot of things are kind of blurry about my memories. I'm hoping to go back to the park some time and re-ride some of the things I really loved, such as S:UF and Georgia Scorcher. We returned for the second day only because I insisted on riding Georgia Scorcher and my husband finally gave in. When we saw the flash passes, we jumped on them and it was well worth it. Ummm....sorry to be the voice of practicality here...but SFOG isn't exactly located on Peachtree Street!! You're not actually saving that much time, but hey, perception is reality anyway... The Interpreter
If you think Dollywood would have been an hour out of the way, unless you have been to Pigeon Forge and/or Gatlinburg, it probably would have been 2 to 3 hours out of the way. Traffic there (and in Atlanta) greatly affects travel time. Do NOT depend on Mapquest or the like for that. Do NOT if at all possible stay at any of the motels near the park at the exit there. There are far safer and less expensive choices. Trust me on this. The Georgia Cyclone is a big old kittycat in the front seat. In the back row, right side, it is a very violent coaster. It is not rough, it is violent. If you don't like violent rides, stick to the front seat. The mine train ride is easily one of the better ones in the country...especially in the back seat. Do not miss the sky ride, which will save you climbing one of the nation's larger hills in a park (comparable with Dorney, but can't hold a candle to the ones at Magic MOUNTAIN). And, like all parks, the place will be far less buy on Tuesday-Thursday if you can swing it.
UnrealNightmare
Psh rough rides that's what Tylenol is for. LoL. Rough rides really don't bother me. I have been to both Gatlinburg and Atlanta. We just recently moved back to Indiana last April and we took the long way here because the movers had to make two stops on the way and it was going to take three days for our stuff to get here. We stayed the night in Savanah and Gatlinburg. And we are leaving here around noon on a Friday so we hope to be in ATL by 1 A.M. that includes bathroom breaks and food stops and stops anywhere else my family decides to make. Last time we drove through ATL at 1 A.M. there was hardly any traffic at all.
UnrealNightmare
So this trip to SFoG may be a really tired trip for me. We are leaving Indy Friday at 12AM So we hope to be at SFoG by 10AM. I think Aleesha and I may try to ride everything than take a ton of pics for my trip report which will include SFoG, Universal, IOA, Sea World, and Busch Gardens, and everything else we may do in Florida. 5 parks in 10 days! I'm gonna need a vacation from my vacation when I get back to Indy lol. The only park I'm concerned about it SFoG seeing as it is the only park on that list that I have never visited. Does any one know how busy it usually gets on Fridays?
The Interpreter
Yes. (You knew that was coming). Like any other park, it depends...what groups are coming? What will the weather be like? What specials is the park running locally? How will the bankruptcy affect attendance? (probably not at all). You will just have to wait and see when you get there. Don't forget the possibility of a Flash Pass (Q-Bot), but the regular one is not worth buying (you wait as long as the people in line) while the gold is very expensive (you get nearly walk-on access). With regular or gold, some of the designated seats are crappy (middle of the train), while others let you join late in the line and pick a seat and yet others are the best seats on the train (Mindbender--the back car!).
