Rivertown-----Before Diamondback

I know it may seem like I'm a hippie loving,save trees person,but I'm not,its just I'm amazed at how many trees they tore down,and that this area is now oocupied by DB.Love seeing areas of places before something big got there.

I love, love, love, love, LOVE the way Rivertown looks now. They really opened it up, restored a lot of old buildings, put so much hard work into it, and it looks so welcoming. Needless to say, DB's massive hills rising far above the treetops in Rivertown's background is something I never thought I'd see at Kings Island. I am beyond impressed.

ya i guess, but it looks way better. it sort of looked like it needed to be rebuilt. i know a rivertown looks rugged out, about to fall over type buildings, but i can see how they tried to make it look as much as possible like a old themed area. just look at the station, the DB trading post. etc. trust me, in a couple of years most of those trees should grow back, it would give the Diamondback a better feel. back in the woods

I think Rivertown looks amazing this year. I agree with Angie's comment about the hard work they put into it and how it looks welcoming. It seemed like such a dead area in the past few years.

Once the trees fill out, we may be surprised how it looks.

I love how Rivertown looks now, but I hate how the area around Diamondback back in the woods looks. IT's like a big dirt hole. I wish the grass would hurry up and grow, and I wish trees would be replanted.

I agree about how good it looks this year. Before, the old buildings in Rivertown we're useless and looking pretty bad. Now the old "old time photo" building has a use again. Rivertown looks great, it got the TLC it needed! I wasn't expecting it to look as nice as it does.

And you have to think, a lot of the park was probably woods before they began work on KI....

If you hate the idea of cutting trees down to make room for coasters, then don't ever go to Cedar Point.. there's like 5 trees on that whole peninsula. It's basically a coaster jungle.. which doesn't bother me one bit.

I don't hate the idea of cutting down trees, I just wish more could've been saved or some planted. It would just make Diamondback soooooo much better.

Edit: My family is planning on going to Cedar Point at the beginning of next summer.

There are still many trees at Cedar Point. Want to see a park with very few trees, go to Michigan's Adventure. Or Dorney, except around Thunderhawk...

I don't recall the exact policy but Herschend plants 2 or more trees for every tree removed. I'm assuming Cedar Fair hasn't adopted such a policy?

No, but I do think of how amazing The Beast is with all of the trees and wish Diamondback was like that.

The difference is, The Beast is a ground hugging terrain coaster, spending much of its time probably less than 20 feet off the ground. So with all the trees around, you really notice flying by them... you feel their enclosure.

Diamondback is an entirely different... beast. With it being more about changes in elevation, focusing on the up & down movement, and with it featuring much of its track 100+ feet off the ground, trees wouldn't offer the same effect.

I do think the splashdown area would look a little nicer with a couple full-grown trees in there (A Weeping Willow, I think would especially look nice). But overall, I think the area will look nicer and fuller once the trees bloom and are filled with thick green leaves. As of last weekend (4/24-4/26) the vast majority of the large trees in the wooded area were still large jumbles of bare sticks. Once those fill out in the coming weeks, things will look even better.
