Bronna
I've been lurking for awhile, and i've enjoyed reading everyone's posts. But I decided to finally register and make a post. So anyways, My friends and I are planning a visit for Saturday, May 30th. And I was just wondering what the crowds and lines would possibly be like that day. There doesn't appear to be any events for that day. Also, we plan on staying til closing, so I was wondering what the weather is like after the sun goes down. Does it get chilly, or does it depend on what the weather has been like that day? Thanks in advance for answering my questions!

But as far as the weather goes, the date is too far away for you to get an accurate forecast. I definitely wouldn't bank on anything you find being accurate to any degree. Saturdays are usually the worst days to visit KI though, so if it is at all possible I would suggest a visit on Friday or Sunday. After sundown, the weather doesn't usually get too cold, but you have to factor in the fact that you'll be racing along roller coaster tracks at high speeds, so a hooded sweater would probably come in handy. Bronna
Well we considered a friday or sunday.. But saturday just worked out best with everyone's work schedules. We're driving up/over the night before and staying at a hotel. My husband doesn't get off work until 4, so friday wasn't an option. And sunday, well.. we live 2 and half hours away, and we planned on staying til close. So i'm guessing it would be around 1-2am before we get home. He(my husband) wouldn't be a happy camper having to get up at 6am for work. Anyways, sorry to ramble.. That's why we chose saturday.
jondrewfoo
i would expect most rides to be 1-2 hr lines. if you stay all day, you will get quite a few rides in. id get inside the park before it opens, like 9:30 so you dont get stuck getting your tickets or waiting in line for the metal detectors right at opening. hope the weather is at least a chance of rain to keep at least a few people away! if its sunny, it will be a long line for just about anything, its just how things are on saturday. at least you arent going memorial day weekend... have fun though! Bronna
I keep checking on the weather, but i'm not relying on anything i see yet. Not until atleast next monday, then maybe I might believe it. I figured lines would be considerably longer on a saturday. We're visiting with my 4yr old Goddaughter, so we'll probably be spending alot of time in NU. We plan on buying tickets at Kroger here in my town. Unless my brother can get them cheaper through his work. But anyways, it's been years since I've been and don't really remember the process and the metal detectors weren't there the last time I was there. So hopefully having purchased our tickets, will cut out some of the time, right?
violakat03
Pre-purchasing your tickets will remove one potential wait from your day, definitely. Get there early to avoid lines at both tolls and the metal detectors. Avoid bringing in a bag if at all possible to cut down on the time it takes to clear security. I manage to keep everything I could possibly need in my cargo pockets. The lines that Saturday shouldn't be as bad as previous Saturdays if there are no events. If it's a music in the parks day, which I'm thinking it may be, it will be jam packed. The advantage to music days is that they all leave between 5 and 7 and the park returns to normal crowd levels for the evening. I'd say expect hour long waits for rides such as Diamondback, Beast, Son of Beast and Vortex. Everthing else will probably be around 30 minutes though you may run into longer waits in Action Zone at times. Nick U shouldn't be too bad but you may have to wait a while for the more popular rides like Fairly Odd Coaster (Beastie) and Scooby's haunted castle. The Interpreter
Not to mention that purchasing tickets beforehand will save perhaps even hundreds of nickels. Among the most expensive tickets to Kings Island are those purchased at the front gate of the park.
Bronna
Okay, thanks to everyone for their replies! The only thing i've heard that's going on that day is OSU's band being there. Is that part of music in the parks?
BavarianBeatle
Personally, I avoid amusement parks like the plague on Saturdays, except during the times when the park is only open on weekends..... My advice though is to avoid the mad rush to the "big rides" at the beginning and wait until about 12 or 1 pm when everyone heads to the parking lot to eat their packed lunch (which I also recommend, but wait until about 2 to go out and eat when everyone else is going back to the park and getting back in line). The key is patience on a crowded day, as I have attempted to emphasize to my children many times...LOL! But years ago, when I had a wife or a girlfriend, we always found the long waits (when we had nothing to do but hold hands and talk) to actually be very nice!! Bronna
Thanks for the advice.. There's 5 of us going, my husband and I and our 4yr old Goddaughter as I mentioned before. And my best friend and her fiance. So if we do have to wait, which i'm sure we will, atleast we're in good company! We'll be there for the whole day, so we'll have plenty of time to get in all of our favorite rides. Which, there's a few new rides since i've been there last, including Diamondback! So I may have some new favorites now! ETA: I looked up the dates for "Music in the Parks" and it says the 23rd, this saturday is the last day for it. Unless they've added more days and haven't updated the schedule.
violakat03
The OSU band is just an extra thing, not a music in the parks event. I looked at the event calendar and it looks like currently there is nothing planned for that Saturday. That should mean normal Saturday crowds so it won't be too bad. If I had to pick a Saturday to go, I'd pick the one you did!
Bronna
Good to know we picked a good saturday! We knew it would be fairly busy, with it being a saturday. But that was really our only option, with everyone's work schedules.. Like I said before, I haven't been in years so I'm excited to see how the park has changed.
