ftskatie
I was talking to my mom yesterday about different records that Kings Island has set with different rides that we may not have any longer, and of course, rides that we have now. I know of: SOB - tallest and fastest wooden Beast - longest wooden (also with one of them I think it's the most wood used to make a wooden coaster) Drop Zone - tallest gyro drop Vortex - when it was built, had the most loops of any coaster in the world ---- I think I may know of a few more, but i don't want to sound stupid for being incorrect :] So, does anyone know of other records Kings Island has set? Well, maybe not Kings Island has set. Roller coasters/rides AT Kings Island.
standbyme
So, does anyone know of other records Kings Island has set? Food prices?
coaster_junky
when The Beast opened it was also the world's tallest and fastest, Flight of Fear was the first to use a lim launch(not really a record but kinda neat to know), The Bat was the first suspended swinging roller coaster( so i guess with that comes, tallest, fastest, longest suspended swinging roller coaster). there might be more, but this is all i can think of right now, by any chance was The Racer the tallest roller coaster when it opened? ftskatie
I think I read somewhere that The Racer was the tallest, fastest, and longest coaster at the time
SOB_TOM
The Vortex was the tallest, fastest, and most looping steel roller coaster when built. SOB was the Tallest, fastest, only looping coaster, as well as the tallest structure built entirely of wood, used the most board feet of wood of any structure, and I forget the other 3-4 records it had. The Beast was the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster, but now is only the longest. Don't quote me on this, but I believe Reptar was the first Inverted kiddie coaster built. FoF was the first LIM launch coaster (which NASA, Air Force, Army and navy took a big look at...) Drop Zone is the tallest gyro drop in the world. King Cobra was the first standing looping coaster. I'm trying to think of some more that KI had, but I'm drawing a blank right now...
DropZone99
Firsts and records. Beast is the longest wooden coaster. KI has most wooden Track at one park. Crypt is the only Giant HUSS Top Spin. Diamondback is the first B&M Hyper to have a splashdown. Delirium is the first HUSS Giant Frisbee. Vortex was the first coaster to have 6 inversions. Runaway Reptar was the world's first Family Invert. Kings Island has the most kid coasters. Kings Island has the best kid's area. King Cobra was the first Standup coaster built to have an Inversion. Bat was the first suspended coaster to open to the public. Son of Beast is the tallest wooden coaster. Son of Beast is the fastest wooden coaster. Son of Beast was the only modern Wooden Coaster with an Inversion. Flight of Fear was the first LIM Coaster. Racer was at one time the tallest coaster I believe. Drop Zone is the tallest Gyro Drop. I think Italian Job was the first Family Launched Coaster. When Vortex opened it was the tallest coaster with an Inversion. When Beast opened it was the fastest, tallest, and longest coaster. Screamin' Demon was the first Arrow Shuttle. Top Gun is the last Arrow Suspended Coaster to be built.
violakat03
Racer Fastest roller coaster: 1972-1976 (succeeded by Screamin' Eagle at SFStL) The Bat First modern suspended coaster Screamin' Demon First shuttle loop coaster The Beast Longest drop (141') in the world. (succeeded by American Eagle at SFGAm) Fastest in the world (succeeded by American Eagle at SFGAm) Longest roller coaster in the world (succeeded by Ultimate at Lightwater Valley in the UK) Longest wooden roller coaster in the world (current record holder) It was not the tallest, Gemini's lift hill is 15' taller but does not have as long a drop due to Beast's terrain. King Cobra First looping stand-up coaster First coaster to be designed as a stand-up (previous stand-up was modified from a sit-down coaster) Votex Most inversions (6) on a coaster (succeeded by Viper at SFMM) Tallest inverting coaster (succeeded by Viper at SFMM) Fastest inverting coaster (succeeded by Viper at SFMM) Flight of Fear First LIM launched coaster Also won an award from IAAPA for it's use of technology Scooby's Ghoster Coaster First family suspended coaster Son of Beast First wooden 'hypercoaster' Tallest wooden coaster (current record holder) Fastest wooden coaster (current record holder) Only modern wooden coaster with a loop (until 2006 accident) Longest looping coaster (wood or steel - until 2006 accident) Drop Tower Tallest gyro Drop Tower (current record holder) Fastest gyro Drop Tower (succeeded by Drop Tower at KD) Delirium First HUSS Giant Frisbee Diamondback First B&M hyper with a splashdown I think I got them all. And our Backlot was not the first LIM family coaster - the version at Canada's Wonderland opened about a month earlier.
Beast79
Thanks violakat03 you beat me to it. Scooby's ghoster coaster opened in 98. and Run away Reptar opened the same year as Silver Streak up in Canada's Wonderland in 2001.
ftskatie
Wow, that seems like a lot to me Is it really though? I don't know much about any other parks
violakat03
One of these days I'll go through and do Cedar Point's. There's someone looking at writing a guidebook to the Point and I offered myself up for help on fact searching on former and current records. Theirs is easily three times longer than Kings Island's list.
ftskatie
I really hope my mom takes me up to Cedar Point this summer Everything seems three times as good up there
Diamondback FOF
I beg to differ about Drop Tower: The highest and fastest freefall/Drop Tower in the world is an Intamin designed and manufactured ride named "the Giant Drop". The ride is 390 feet (119 m) high and reaches a speed of 84.375 mph (140.6 km/h), the ride is located at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, Australia From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_tower_(ride)
violakat03
Notice I said "gyro drop" not freefall ride.
Rustbucket
I think I read somewhere that The Racer was the tallest, fastest, and longest coaster at the time It was not the tallest. The first coaster to break 100 feet was Serpent of Fire in Mexico in 1964.
The Interpreter
It also was not the fastest by any stretch of the imagination. I also doubt it was the longest...
