I stopped by the park for a few minutes on Monday, and there was a large Mythical statue being assembled behind the Eiffel Tower....just to the left of the little ampitheater.(used to be called International Showplace)

Anyone know what's up?

I saw the posts for that being set up on sunday! COULD THIS BE A SIGN FOR A NEW RIDE??? Please, can we have more details than just "a large mythical statue"? Is it from Tomb Raider and the Cradle of Life? If it is, then it's prolly just to promote the new movie. If not, then it may be for a new ride. I sure hope it's a new ride!

The better part of the statue was still in pieces when I left....but from my limited knowledge of Greek Mythology....I would deduce this thing to be Zeus, or someone of his caliber. I remember seeing lightning bolts, and eagle wings....it was all done in a brown-green-bluish color scheme.

I wouldn't say it looked like anything from "Cradle of Life," but I could be wrong. As soon as someone else who saw it chimes in, we'll know more.

I'll be back for a litte while tomorrow. I'll look for more details.

I'm going tommorrow and I'll make sure I take a look to see what this is. Thanks for telling us this, I'm so excited. If this statue is really Zeus, a mythical god, then maybe we will get a god of coasters!

A coaster called "Chariots Of Fire" - playing off of the song (from the movie) they play on International Street!?

How bout something themed to the movie 'Gladiator'? Was that a Paramount movie?

Just a couple thoughts...

Maybe it's just a statue... With no hidden meaning. Not likely.

Lets think this through real quick: The earliest that I have ever seen PKI release anything or give any teasers is July. Unless this is a really big display, why would they start on this now?

Just a statue? Why? Why would you build a statue if it dosn't mean something? Or look good. And that thing sticks out (like a sore thumb).

I am sure it for a big project. Remember SOB they put the box up that rattled and made noise. And they did the same thing for Tomb Raider So I a Guessing it is for a coaster. I am working on who the guy is and what his story is(statue). I will update you as soon as a professor at Ohio State look at the pictures and tells me who this person is. I will update you as soon as I have something.

Isn't there an Alexander the Great movie coming out soon? This could be an ad for that.

SOB_TOM.... I believe you're mistaken about when PKI releases information. If I am correct, Son of Beast was announced in mid-May, and many other past additions were announced in June, and the beginning of July. PKI is a park that usually announces their additions pretty early into the daily operation season.

Maybe the rumors of a B and M speed coaster are true. Pki could be going with a similar theme to a ride like how Apollos Chariot is, at busch gardens, wich is a b and m speed coaster. I hope they do get a b and m speed coaster, i hope it's one like nitro, that ride looks so awsome.

Just found out about Alexander the Great movie, and it is a Universal and Dreamworks film. So I don't think that has anything to do with it.

P.S. Gladiator is also a Universal and Dreamworks

What about the new Tomb Raider live action show that is supposed to be coming to Paramount's Kings Island sometime in June? The location of the stunt show has yet to be announced ( I think ) so could this be a prop or scenery for the show?

I was thinking that too, but isn't that show a travelling one? If so, do they have the props to spare? The statue REALLY looks outta place, but so did the giant TR:TR display in front of the fountain last year.

The concensus among a lot of ACE members (and really, most of them know no more than the public) is that B&M have been in frequent contact with the good folks at PKI. I'm not saying that that means a shiny new B&M next year, but for me, at least; that means hope....

The stunt show will be at the International Showplace...Vibe will be relocated for those 2 weeks.

I still think it's something Roman/Caesar based...Yes, I know it's a Paramount park, but does the ride really have to be themed to a movie? OK, yea, that's a stupid question :-)

I'm also guessing since 'a sign' is going up this early that the new ride will take some time to build. SOB, TR, etc - they announced these early since they are quite big and took time to build....However Scooby & Delirium didn't take quite as much time and aren't quite as big, so they could announce those later...at least that's my thinking on it. I would think if it's a coaster they would need to start clearing land and/or setting up the foundation for the ride early into the season...

Who knows, maybe we are all thinking a new coaster, but it will be something totally unique - a first of it's kind...Kind of like TR:TR and Delirium were for PKI!?

Someday (not this year) I'd like to see a 'Twisted Sister' / 'Dueling Dragon' type of coaster, except one track is wood and one track is steel....Now that would be cool and would fit perfectly at PKI...

I think there's too many sources indicating contact with B&M for it to be anything else... But I've been wrong many a time, so draw your own conclusion.

As someone on CoasterBuzz noted... if you go to TombRaiderMovie.com and click on "iPix", then click the high resolution pics of the Luna Temple, and you'll see that exact same statue. The statue is simply for the traveling Tomb Raider show, nothing to get your hopes up for... that'll have to wait until PKI makes their 2004 announcement, which should be coming pretty soon.

I was hoping it was for a new ride. All these rumors flying around are killing me! PKI! ANNOUNCE THE NEW RIDE SOON!!! PAWEEEEEEESE???

I just got off the phone with the marketing dept at PKI and I have been told for sure that is the new buda from the new Tomb Raider Movie Craddle of Life. Sorry guys we were hoping that it was more that what it is but it is not.

Well that just put a damper on everything! But we have time still for PKI to announce a new ride... I hope it is really soon.

I know that the park tells news people when they will announce the new rides sometime before the announcement (so the news people will be there), but is there a way for the general public to be told when the announcement will be made, so we can be there when they announce the new rides?

I hope the anouncement comes soon! Anyone know when it will be? Around the fourth of July? By the end of daily operation? I think PKI will have two excellent shows, between the traveling Tomb Raider show and the magic show in the Paramount Theater. I remember that the magic show that was at th Paramount Theater two years ago was always crowded, more so than what Graveyard Shift was.

Sorry, I should have posted something before the statute went up. It was great seeing all the posts though!

Someone asked about the general public being in on the annoucements... unless you are on the inside and know when the announcement will be made, the general public won't know about it. Sometimes the park waits till the last minute to contact the news people about it as well to limit leaks... and let me tell you, this year they have been very tight lipped about anything new.

If PKI is gonna get a coaster, which would be awsome!, then they will have to announce it before the end of daily operation. It takes time to build a coaster and they will announce it before they begin to build, so they would have to do it soon....Right?

If you must know..........

The statue that you all see that looks so Roman is actually a statue of ancient Roman chef armor. PKI put it up to honor to me and thank me for writing The Unofficial Guidebook to Paramount's Kings Island and all my support for the park.

Believe that folks and I've got ocean front property in Arizona to sell you.
