Personally, I don't think it's way too big a deal to charge a few quarters for a game. Compared to the midway games in the real park, this is much cheaper, and most of the small games even have a consolidation prize (not that they're really that hard to win anyway ;)). And, as SnakePit did (rudely) say, there's plenty of free things left to do- Tractor Town, meeting Hanna-Barbera characters, Petting Zoo, Mr. Cowpie, Twisted Tales, and the Haybale Maze, just to name a few :)

I assume for your third pro you meant Firehawk. The only thing Cedar Fair has done for Flight of Fear, to my knowledge, is apply the midcourse brakes to the nonsatisfaction of certain posters here....

I think he meant the possibility of it being removed, like FoF at KD would have become Soundwave at (then) PCW.

SnakePit, do you work for Cedar Fair Entertainment Company? Oh, and if you didn't see anyone opening their wallet, you didn't look very far: http://howlofest.visitkingsisland.com/publ...yone_winner.cfm .

C'mon now really! Is fifty cents or a dollar really gonna break someone for their kids to play a game and win a prize? If it is then you probably shouldn't be at KI to begin with.

I have 4 little kids, add up all the prices of each of the games and tell us if thats fair. If I add up the prices my wife gave me, that's to play each one just one time, $11.50 per kid x4 is $46.00 each day we goto Kings Island during the kids times.

Went to KI with my 3 year old on Saturday. My thoughts and opinions:

- Howl-O-Fest was awesome for the little one. He loved the mazes, tractor town, candy stops (Taffy in addition to Starburst), pumpkin patch, and kids size corn-hole. He didn't want to do the petting zoo, art projects, or dance party.

- We stayed away from the pay-per-games. (Notes: I don't have a problem with them charging, appreciated the heads up in this thread, didn't go last year so wasn't too concerned)

- We also had fun riding rides in his costume although he was very dissapointed that the Eiffel Tower and Viking Fury were closed

He wanted to take his brother back on Sunday, so I guess that says it all.

^^Of course, the kids don't have to play every game, but can instead choose just one or two. That would make an average of $1.50 per child, meaning you'd only spend $6 total. Without even touching the money you didn't spend, you could go and enjoy any of the other dozen activities in Howl-O-Fest. Just my opinion on it, anyway.

Ty, Ty, Ty…

I hope that your post is not representative of how well you are doing in math class…because I think your average is way off…at least if my family is “average”. Just as you can’t eat just one Lays potato chip, a kid can not play just one…or even two games. I think that once a child sees the games you are looking at playing a minimum of 4-5 games…and with the prices that hamoperator posted that average is more likely in the $5.00-$6.00 range. If his prices are correct there are really only two 50 cent games (“Screaming Rings” & “Stuff The Scarecrow“)…I do not count the “Monster Muffin” game because that is 50 cents a BALL…and like I said, you know a kid is not going to want to stop after throwing one ball. With ”Tin Man Tragedy”, “Pumpkin Bash” and ”Sticky Fingers” each being $1.00 and “Halloween Duck Hunt” and “Terror Tower” being $2.00 each it will add up pretty quickly…certainly more than $1.50. I also think that the higher priced games have the “better” prizes…and we all know how that draws a child’s attention!

I may be wrong, but I can’t picture a young Ty telling his parents “Oh, no thank you mother…I’ve played two games…I really couldn’t play another if I tried”.

Now I know what you’re probably thinking…who’s the parent here, that’s true…but it is also true that people are coming to the park for a good time…and when you see your child having a good time you can get caught up in the moment and spend more money than you might have planned.

With all that said, do I personally think it’s a rip-off charging for these games…NO WAY. I was TOTALLY amazed last year when they were free…I am just pointing out that if a parent does wander over towards the game area they are probably going to spend quite a bit of money…but I applaud the park for seemingly keeping them in one area where they can be avoided if a family is on a budget. :)
