HoliWood Nights OR CoasterMania, but not both, or not all of both

Recommended Posts

It's not that I don't enjoy Voyage. I just far more enjoy the smallest of the three wooden coasters at Holiday World. I am much more of a traditionalist than a coaster enthusiast. I adore Raven. And I like my laterals a bit stronger than those on Voyage. See The Georgia Cyclone in the backseat. Or even Pegasus at Mt. Olympus in Wisconsin!

That all being said, CoasterMania or HoliWood Nights...both fine events, both can be enjoyed...too bad not both next year, though...

The front seat of The Georgia Cyclone is one I seldom miss...because it is so tame, mild-mannered and turns the ride into a big old puttycat.... It's astounding how much difference there is in the front and back of a cyclone style wooden coaster. Same is true of most of them, from Viper at Six Flags Great America (a great, and often under-rated ride) to the granddaddy of them all in Brooklyn.

And the plot thickens. As if to up the anti and win over a market, Cedar Point jacks up their event 100 fold!

Let's do it this way:

ERT:

Night time: Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum XL-200, Raptor, Mantis - 1 hour 15 minutes. maXair, Disaster Transport, Blue Streak, Wicked Twister - 1 hour

Morning: Millennium Force - 1 hour. Maverick, Skyhawk, Shoot the Rapids - 1 hour 30 minutes

Behind The Scenes Tours:

Millennium Force, Maverick

Other:

Film Festival, Mini-Golf Competition, Games of Skill competition, and....

....WALTER BOLLIGER (AS IN THE "B" IN "B&M") SPEAKING!!!

I officially take back what I said about definitely going to Holiday World. This one's tough. Let me think....

DISCLAIMER: I am not a negative person. I am not trying to sway anyone's decision, I am just stating my views. In fact, Cedar Point is my favorite park.

In my opinion, CoasterMania! 2010 has some of the worst planned ERT I have ever seen. I sincerely hope that they change a lot of things for those who plan on going:

If you want a behind-the-scenes tour of Maverick then you have to skip the first hour of Millie ERT.

Raptor is not scheduled for ERT along with Blue Streak and the rides are right next to each other.

If you want to hit all four coasters for Friday night ERT then you MIGHT get one or two rides in on each coaster in the hour and 15 minutes planned.

Last year, we were allowed to choose ERT rides. This year Mantis and Disaster Transport are ERT rides.

I am interested in hearing what Walter Bolliger has to say, but HoliWood Nights looks MUCH better in my opinion. Looks like I'll be in Santa Claus, Indiana on June 4th and 5th, 2010.

Bolliger's speech will likely be on YouTube the next day.

It's HoliWood Nights for me, without a doubt.

As much as I love Cedar Point: I was nonplussed with the ERT scheduling this year, and next year it doesn't look any better. I was also baffled and annoyed by the fact that the lines for ERT were outrageous.

CP was a ghost town when I went on July 5.. EVERY QUEUE was completely empty, if not a 5 minute wait. I got a total count of 36 rides in 13 hours, and still had time for a walk on the beach. I don't need a special event, I just need a cloudy Sunday or Tuesday with a chance of rain.

With all due respect to CP, CoasterMania just isn't worth it to me.

I agree the ERT wasn't great. But that Saturday at the park wasn't even busy at all. My friend and I got 55 rides in that day. Of course the night time raptor ERT didn't hurt ;).. not to mention being evacuated!

With the CM announcement I am now going to Holiwood Nights for sure. It will be interesting how much this will hurt the attendance for both events. Of course this could make it great for the enthusiasts with potenitaly smaller crowds at each event than if they were on separate dates.

I was for sure about going to Holiwood Nights, but now after seeing Coaster Mania I'm really confused. I haven't been to HW since 2001 (Haven't ridden Voyage or Howler.) And since most my friends are choosing HW, I'm more towards it. I went to Coaster Mania in 2008 and had the best day of my life, but reviews of 2009 CM, people said it sucked. The ERT looks good this year (Wicked Twister, Mantis, Disaster Transport, no I'm not kidding- I love all those coasters.) And the backstage tours sound amazing! But since I haven't been to HW in forever I'll probably chose it.

Now thinking some more about this. Holiday World is never really too busy, I don't live too far so I could go any day. But I barley go to CP. In 2008 Coaster Mania was AMAZING. I got soooo many rides in, it was the best day of my life. Word spread how amazing it was and everyone went in 2009 causing ERT to be busy. Than in trip reports people said they still had a great time, but it was packed (ERT.) So word spread once again only about how bad it was. Now everyone is wanting to go to Holiday World because of how bad Coaster Mania was, and how good Holiwood Nights was. So I'm guessing HWN may be somewhat busy during ERT, and Coaster Mania will be not bad! So as of now I'm going with CM, unless someone can change my opinion...

Every time I've ever been to CP on a scheduled ERT (I went to both CM and Maverick ERT night this year), let me tell you, it was ridiculous how long the lines were.

At HWN, and the other 4 times I went this year, I can remember ONE line, ONE time that we really had to wait for a coaster. Every other time I went, every coaster was practically a station wait every time. The ERT during HWN was terrific. Station waits for every coaster.

Go ahead, go to CM if you want long, long lines and poorly planned ERT that overlaps with the behind the scenes tours, when you can go on any cloudy Sunday and get more rides in on that Sunday than you will ever dream about getting during one of CP's ERT events.

I'm going to HoliWood Nights, and that is final. :)

^ True kinda, but I have a feeling that with all the people going to HWN, CM won't be too busy. And in 2008 Coaster Mania was planned pretty good, I got tons of rides in during ERT (18 on MF in like 2 hours.) I may change my mind again, but for now I'm going with CM!
