The Interpreter Posted October 7, 2009 Share Posted October 7, 2009 Experts will begin the process today to dismantle, catalog, photograph and store the 100-year-old Grand Carousel at the closed Libertyland amusement park. The city has contracted with Marion, Ohio-based Carousels and Carvings to handle the project. The cost is estimated at $59,000. The city had expected to pay $115,000 through the remainder of the fiscal year for 24-hour private security to guard the treasure. Storing the carousel, according to city officials, will also protect it from theft, vandals and the elements. I have heard rumors of it being relocated to other CF parks in 2010, however it will reads like the owners of LL will only storing it. violakat03 Posted October 7, 2009 Share Posted October 7, 2009 I'm really glad to hear one of Libertyland's two historic rides is being taken care of. Now if only they'd show the same care for the classic Miller coaster that's sitting there rotting at the fairgrounds. It really disturbs me that they're talking of tearing down buildings and other structures on the site and that there was no word about the Zippin Pippin and what the plans for it are. I haven't seen the Pippin since I moved out of Memphis in 2007, but last I saw, it was getting a bit overgrown and was completely neglected.
