The Interpreter
Kingda Ka. It is...and it seems it, too, to me...
coaster_junky
i take it ring racer hasn't hit full speed yet?
Gturner94
Cant say ive riden Kinda Ka yet but Top Thrill did seem pretty fast
TylerRider
Out of the ones I have ridden, I would have to say FoF.
The Interpreter
i take it ring racer hasn't hit full speed yet? From my understanding, it isn't operating for the public as of yet... KIfan73
Diamondback for me.
coaster_junky
for some odd reason i say backlot, that launch seems extra powerful to only get you to 45 mph, but for the record the fastest roller coaster i've been on is top thrill dragster. Gturner94
Diamondback for me. I dont know the smoothness of it i think makes it feel a little slower and more under control but this is coming from a guy who absolutely is in love with woodies
coaster_junky
i think that's also something that goes into the feeling of speed. honestly if i never was told or read anywhere that top thrill goes 120 mph or millennium force goes 93 mph, i would have never guessed anything close to that. Gturner94
i agree i dont think anyone could
The Interpreter
And the opposite is also true. No way would I have ever guessed Disneyland's Space Mountain has a top speed of ...... 32 miles per hour!
Gturner94
I heard that ride was like Flight of Fear. Is it even close?
The Interpreter
No. It is very, very different. It's not launched, it's stupendously fast for what it is...and it is definitely a classic. Flight of Fear is a fine ride...but it is not Space Mountain, for good or ill.
coaster_junky
^^^agreed, and also throwing in rock-n-roller coaster at hollywood studio's in florida, i thought that launch was much faster than 57 mph, but i think going past that theming, in the dark and only having a light shine on them for a second or two, adds to the feeling of a faster speed. bkroz
I mean, Top Thrill has a lot of force and everything, but as far as an unexpected sensation of speed, I have to say Incredible Hulk. The uphill launch into a zero-G roll is totally incredible, and it's literally almost impossible to comprehend that it goes only as fast as Backlot Stunt Coaster. That being said, Backlot also has quite a kick compared with what you'd expect. But Hulk has a lot of unexpected force. Of course, it doesn't feel as fast as Top Thrill Dragster or Millennium, but it feels more forceful in respect to its speed than Top Thrill does in relation to its speed. To think Hulk only goes one third the speed of Kingda Ka, it's got at least half the force behind it... That's a significant difference! When i rode FoF for the first time i knew how fast it went but i thought i was on top thrill lol

yournamehere
When it was open Hypersonic XLC at KD felt the fastest to me. there was nothing that compared to its acceleration.
Coney Islander
Does anyone else think Flight of Fear seems much faster than it actually is? The flashing lights at the beginning add to the illusion of a much greater speed...
coastermike
I don't know about it being the fastest, but the rush of speed on The Beast after you exit the tunnel and up to the second lift hill is is awesome for me. Mike B.
TOPGUN1993
TOPGUN and of course El Toro.

Tom76257
I'm pretty sure Terpy will back me up when I say that The Raven at Holiday World seems like it's going MUCH faster than 48 miles per hour due to its layout. Even in the POV it looks like it's all out booking it. One ride in particular I had that has compared to NOTHING I've ridden before was my last ride on Raptor on Closing Day last year. WOW!!! It LITERALLY felt like it was going to FLY off the rails and the positive Gs were AMAZING! It was better than any of the summer rides I had on it at high noon. I was sitting in 6-1 of train 1. I'll test this seat out on May 15th for sure because it was the best speed rush on any coaster I've EVER had!
The Beast Rider
The Voyage seems the fastest to me. Riding it right after a heavy thunderstorm, in the dark, catching airtime going into the midcourse (which did nothing ) was just the greatest. gigacoaster2k
I rode TTD in the front seat a couple times. My contacts actually moved to the sides for a second when it launched. Millie also almost blew one of my contacts out once. Ryan (BoddaH1994) and I rode Flight Deck at night in a downpour once. That thing was HAULING.. it was ouch, but WOW I've never felt it fly like that! Voyage at night feels like insanity.. fast doesn't begin to describe it, you have to ride it and see. I rode it once when it was sprinkling, and closed my eyes because the raindrops were hurting them. I actually got scared. Tom tried it, and said the same thing. Voyage with your eyes closed is downright scary.. this coming from an enthusiast who has this prestigious woodie as #1 on her top 10!
