DaveStroem
I just saw that Best Western is running a special for season pass holders of 30% off. I just booked a room there for 4/1 at a rate of $48.99 + tax. I was also told that you can just walk over to the park. My thought is to head over before the parking lot opens. This way we will be behind the tail-gaiters but before everyone else.
The Interpreter
a. Be aware this inn is owned by Cedar Fair. b. With any luck, it has been remodeled, cleaned and is run better than the last time I stayed there. The last time I stayed there, I vowed it would be the last time I stayed there. Captain Picard
I think the last time I stayed there was 2003 and it was nothing special. The only thing going for it is how close it is to the park.
DaveStroem
I know you mentioned this last year. I just checked there reviews on trip advisor and for the price, it doesn't sound too bad, Since we will only be there a few hours, it really doesn't make much of a difference. I was impressed that the management replied to the the trip advisor reviews.
Captain Picard
There was a van that would take you to and from the park back when I went there. I would bet that van has been parked since Cedar Fair has been in the drivers seat.
The Interpreter
The ONLY requirements I have for a motel are safety, quiet and cleanliness. The last time I stayed there, I vowed never so to do again. Ever. The room reeked of mold. Really, really bad mold. They moved me to another room. Same story. The door lock did not inspire confidence, to put it mildly. And the tub looked to have last been cleaned in, oh, perhaps 1938. Yes, I know the place was not there then. But it looked to have dirt that old.
Captain Picard
The room I was in had mold in the tile grout. I think I will be in one worse. I got rooms for CoasterMania at the roach motel. I will probably need a six pack of bug bombs and some plastic sheeting for the bed.
The Interpreter
In reading over the reviews at the site Dave cited, I see the door lock issue continues. The locks at that motel frequently appear to be locked when they, in fact, are not. Do not be surprised to find the doors unlocked when you return to your room (as I did twice) or from the park. It is a very short walk to the park. The shuttle is almost not worth waiting for. The walk from Boomerang Bay's gate at Kings Island to the main gate is about the same distance... Still, in the future, I will stay at Ashland, Virginia or even in my car before I grace that place in KD's parking lot again....
thunderbeast1968
I don't recall the name of the hotel but, it was the second hotel across the street from the main entrance. It was a very nice updated hotel. 70.00 a night. A new hotel was being built behind this one as we stayed in June 2009. I tried to find discount tickets for KD somewhere but with no luck. I asked around and no one had any ideas for us. The lady at the ticket counter said if we bought full priced tickets (49.99) We could get in a second day for free. A two day trip is what we were there for so... we bought them. I am sorry for my ramblings, these are just random thoughts about my trip last summer. BTW I loved the park.... Volcano is a great coaster plus I got to ride Dominator(East) again.
PhantomTheater
My experience at that hotel is similar to that of Terpy's. The first room my family had, the one bed had a huge urine stain. The room we slept in was full of mold, mildew, and whatever else accompanies them. Also, the attached restaurant (Denny's I believe) is horrendous.
