November 1, 200322 yr Does anyone know where I can go to find old maps from when the park opened? Thanks in advance!!!!
November 3, 200322 yr Watch Ebay as well. I bought a 1974 brouchure for 4 bucks on Ebay, and see them from a variety of years for auction.
November 5, 200322 yr I was at my parent's house a few weeks ago and found a King's Island visitor guide from 1982. It's still in pretty good condition--it was on a bookshelf squeezed between some old books. I must have gotten it on a class trip in 6th or 7th grade. The headline was "Celebrate Kings Island's 10th Anniversary!" and the new attraction was a redesign of Hana-Barbera Land. The map wasn't nearly as "graphical" as the ones are today. Instead, mostly circles & squares indicated where attractions were. But, it was a pretty cool find Lucky that my Mom never throws anything away :-) Joel
November 5, 200322 yr The odd thing is that the maps were pretty low quality for years. I believe they still used the circle and line technique for showing attraction until the mid 90`s. However, since at least 1998 they have been using the current graphics and have continued to improve the quality of the maps. This really makes no sense since the map from 1972 had graphics on it and was similar to the current maps.
November 12, 200322 yr and the new attraction was a redesign of Hana-Barbera Land. I doubt that becuase thats the year the viking fury was opened....are you sure you foudn a map for pki...maybe you got it confused with a 1982 rand mcnally man.

I doubt that becuase thats the year the viking fury was opened....are you sure you foudn a map for pki...maybe you got it confused with a 1982 rand mcnally man. Actually, no. Here's a rundown of the new attractions in 1982 (taken from this very website)... 1982 -- Hanna Barbera Land gets a $2.1 million face lift. Among the new attractions were the Hanna Barbera Carousel, McScrappy's Farm, and the Jelly Bean Bowl. One side of The Racer is turned around backward, adding a new degree of excitement to the ride. Two new rides were also added to Oktoberfest, the Ferris Wheel and Viking Fury. Timberwolf Amphitheatre opens as well. This year also saw the debut of Winterfest, featuring the new Festhaus. But, very clever post. It would be more clever if proper spelling and punctuation had been used, but good try none-the-less.
November 12, 200322 yr Actually, the Festhaus opened in 1983. However, it might have been completed on time for use in Winterfest. BoObKiNoS, are you trying to stir up troub le with smart remarks to almost every post? Take a chill and respect everyones opinion. Afterall, this is a free country.

November 14, 200322 yr Hey man! I used to work at CI! Got beef?! I agree. Without Coney Island there would be no Kings Island. Its a fun place to spend a few hours.

November 14, 200322 yr BoObKiNoS, how does my working at CI stir up trouble? While the pay might not be great at Coney, it is a great place to work. Also, had Coney not existed, sadly, we`d have no PKI. Also, Coney is not know for its thrills, but Sunlite Pool. Also, the park is more family oriented because it is smaller in size, and usually less crowded then PKI. To ride all the rides, it probably only takes an hour or two. Before I left this past season at the end of the year, I had heard several rumors about new rides being added in the future. Some of the rumors I heard, were a new coaster, a viking ship, a tower ride, a collection of four more new flat rides or a log flume. It is interesting to note that I heard they were tearing down the tennis court fence next to the Python. Hmmm. I don`t think I`m returning to Coney next season though, not for a 20 cent raise. I had fun there for two seasons, but alas, 5.65 for my third season at the park doesn`t sound too enticing to me. I might try and work at PKI as a ride op, but with being in UC`s architecture program, I wouldn`t be able to start until the first week of June. (Most of one day of my weekend is wasted on doing projects!) Also, they recommend that I get a job related to architecture, which I don`t think a job at PKI qualifies for. Oh well, we`ll see.
