VeCOMA
I will be going to Kings Island on July 19th and 20th. On the 19th my flight lands at the CMH (Columbus) airport at 4pm. I plan on going to Kings Island once we check into the hotel. So I want to know how long is Diamondback's line at about 5:30pm on a summer Monday. Then for the next day at the park, I have a Cedar Fair Platinum Pass, so we get the 30 minutes ERT. I want to try to ride Diamondback twice and Beast once during that time. Which leads me to my next question. About how long is the line for Diamondback and Beast during the ERT? Will it be possible to complete two rides on Diamondback and one ride on Beast? After the ERT, I want to run over to Firehawk to get the credit and try to beat the general public to it. Which leads me to my next question, does Firehawk open with the park most of the time? -Thank you!
Beast79
Lines on Monday are normally shorter than towards the end of the week. As for ERT you can easily do what you want to do. Firehawk opens with the rest of the park unless they have any issues which could happen on any ride.
Beast79
Oh yeah and welcome to KICentral!
KI FANATIC 37
Yes welcome to KIC! Lines are probably 15-20 min. on Monday evenings, I will also be their the 19!
VeCOMA
Thanks guys! Well if the lines are short on Mondays, next question! How long are the lines for Firehawk, Vortex, and Flight Deck on a Monday evening? Then I want to know how long the line is for Beast at night! I've heard Beast at night is something NOT to miss! KI FANATIC 37
Mondays are normally not crowded, Firehawk pretty much always has a long line, (at least when I've been there). Vortex normally a 20min wait and Flight Deck is normally a very short line. Beast at night can get lengthy, but it just depends. It varies everyday. But remember these are just estimates, it mostly depends on the weather and some other factors. And yes Beast at night is spectacular! I also like DB at night too. Might want to try both. Hope you have fun, and what your looking at, the lines shouldn't be that long. Please correct me if something sounds incorrect.
BoddaH1994
Also, don't be fooled by line lengths. The Vortex's line can sometimes spill out onto the midway on busy days, but that only constitutes about a 40 minute wait. Anything is possible when it comes to crowds, but if I had to guess I'd say the estimates above are accurate.
Diamondback96
Diamondback's even faster than Vortex. Even with the queue completely full, it'll only take 45 minutes or less. I heard that on opening day last season, there was only an hour wait, and the line was long. There was a picture of it on here; I'll try to find it. VeCOMA
Thank you guys so much! I was a little worried, (I worry WAY too much) but now I am now very excited to go!
bkroz
Also, don't be fooled by line lengths. The Vortex's line can sometimes spill out onto the midway on busy days, but that only constitutes about a 40 minute wait. Anything is possible when it comes to crowds, but if I had to guess I'd say the estimates above are accurate. Too true. Vortex's line may appear very long, but it more than likely isn't - it's a straight shot, whereas most rides have those agonizing back-and-forth queues. So when the line does spill out into the midway, it's the equivalent of maybe only three or four switchbacks. Same with The Crypt (if you plan to ride it, which I do suggest). The line MIGHT be long (or nonexistent, it's different all the time), but the ride takes 55 people at once. So it won't move at ALL for five or six minutes, then a massive group will move in. It's frustrating and people leave the line thinking it's broken down, but it hasn't. The longest I've seen Diamondback's line on a normal day is 20 minutes. It's a people-eater. As was said, The Beast can get long at night, especially when it stops operation for the fireworks. It's obviously worth it, though, so don't miss it. Longest lines in the park (by time waiting): Firehawk The Beast Flight of Fear Invertigo Backlot Stunt Coaster The Firehawk, Invertigo, and Backlot have long lines simply because they have a low throughput by their nature. Worth waiting for, though, if this is a special trip! Especially Backlot and (if you've never been on a flier) Firehawk. Flight of Fear has a long line because people see Firehawk's line and go 'Uh, we'll do that later. Let's go ride this one right next to it and then we'll come back.' VeCOMA
^ I don't plan on riding every coaster, but I do want to re-ride most of the larger coasters. This is mainly because we going to CP the next day, and my brother and I CANNOT wait to get there EDIT: We might try to make it to CP at night on the 20th. VeCOMA
OK, with July 19th just about a week away I have one more question! Does KI let you bring in tripods? I have a mini tripod that I bring to most parks, and I want to know if KI will let me bring it in. Oh, and does CP allow mini tripods too? PhantomTheater
Yes, I see people all the time with tripods. However they must either go in bins or a locker on most rides.
VeCOMA
So yeah, going to be leaving really soon...Just one more day (ohio time) two days for me. And yeah...it says 'isloated thunderstorms' for Monday and 'scattered thunderstorms' for Tuesday. Being from Southern California, its rare for it to even rain in the winter here . But in all seriousness, how does KI operate their rides in 'isolated/scattered thunderstorms'? If they even operate them at all.
The Interpreter
If lightning is anywhere near the park, all outside rides shut down. If it is pouring rain without lightning, most coasters go into what is called rain mode, reducing capacity...to put more space between trains and help to virtually eliminate any chance of lessened braking effectiveness due to rain...even the coasters with magnetic braking do this.
