bkroz
From today's Screamscape update (so, as always, take it for a grain of salt): Big changes are in store for the Six Flags corporate office I’m told. Under the direction of Al Weber, SF is expected to vacate their current digs in New York in favor of a new Dallas location. I’m told that the company has long had an IT office and possibly other corporate infrastructure in Dallas anyway. This isn’t good news for most of the New York based staff who aren’t expected to make the shift... with few even being offered the opportunity. Apparently the first cuts have already been made in an attempt to weed out many of Shapiro’s old “ESPN” crew that he brought in with him. Meanwhile it is also rumored that Weber may have already brought his former Marketing VP from the Paramount Parks days back into the fold to help reinvent Six Flags. On a side note, I‘ve also heard a rumor that Mark Shapiro may have filed a lawsuit against Six Flags now, and memo to such was sent out to the staff instructing them not to have dealings with him. Should be interesting to see where things go from here. In other news Six Flags will return to the New York Stock Exchange today under the ‘SIX’ symbol. Emphasis added. Will Six Flags be the newest Universal of the Midwest? Funny to see Kings Island's current parent company struggling to stay on its feet with a board member resigning, a shareholder rebellion always seeming a growing concern, and two new board members added at the request of a once takeover-eyeing Q. Meanwhile, the old Paramount team is rumored to be coming back into power at the once-earmarked-for-merging-with-Cedar-Fair Six Flags, who is today celebrating their return to the stock market! Confusing!
KIBOB
I also find this kind of Ironic. I also find it kind of funny how just a little more than four years ago on these forums, nearly everyone was expressing how excited and thrilled they were that Cedar Fair was purchasing Paramount Parks to get us out of the CBS nightmare. We were mostly all excited about the possibility of the park returning to its former glory and we were excited about the possibilites about bigger and better things coming to the park, which we did get, but look at where Cedar Fair stands now. As Goodyellowcorn basically stated, the company is beginning to fall apart at the mercy of a thousand atmospheres of debt that management just doesn't seem to know how to handle, and the lack of theming, effects maintnence, and attention to detail is really starting to grind most of our gears, and has proven that Cedar Fair has NOT returned the parks to their former in depth atmosphere environment. All of this while the former leader of Paramount Parks, the company that Cedar Fair purchased, seems to have a great plan for the new Six Flags and is bringing the company back to its feet. All I have to say is....
The Interpreter
Some at Great Adventure, where plans are apparently CHANGing, might not agree with parts of your assessment...others among us have had a relatively consistent view of current FUN management from the beginning, and have not wavered from that viewpoint...
