^Yet, oddly enough, the rides list includes something called "Backlot Stunt Coaster"...? :P

Hey, in many perfect-world scenarios floating around here, we'd have them both! (And maybe, Backlot Stunt Coaster would be located in... oh, I don't know... the Action Zone area, which is themed to a stunt movie backlot area where an action film might be taking place? )

As for the Twilight Zone house, do you really think that Cedar Fair (or, more appropriately, Kings Island) could pull of a classy, classic, blood-less, gore-less, purely-creepy haunted house that the Twilight Zone theme would require? Come on... Not saying I wouldn't want to see it, just that I wouldn't want to see how Kings Island would handle it... Would it be located next to the midget wrestlers? Or the live-animal butcher shop house? And besides, our park had the rights to the next-best-thing television series. That ship has sailed. Er... blasted off?

GYK, who now knows what happens when the human body is pushed to... something or other.

Which, once again, I do not see them adding a Doll Factory maze (or even a Scary/Feary Tales maze) to the lineup anytime soon, as it fits the creepy, bloodless, goreless tone the park is now trying to shy away from. Although, I could possibly some themes from the Slaughterhouse rub off onto a Dollhouse maze, what with undesirable bodies and internal organs being shipped off to the butcher shop and a particularly graphic scene involving how one actually MAKES a doll out of a human being (too graphic to recount here).

EDIT: Saw the werewolf picture for Wolf Pack. Hopefully the rest of the wolves look just as scary as that one and it should be a good maze.

  • 2 weeks later...

We are really getting excited for the Haunt. I noticed on the CP HalloWeekends page that they have a lot more shows going on than we do. Is anyone wishing we had as many shows as CP? I kind of like have a whole bunch of haunts with just a few shows, but I bet it would be a very different and interesting experience to have a lot of music and dancing going on, too. Wondering if it is worth the drive from Dayton.

On Fridays and Sundays CP Halloweekends is worth it, but on Saturday's you might be parking on the grass!

Only one week to go! Since I'm getting in the mood by going to CP's HalloWeekends tonight & tomorrow, I think it's about time that my Wally Gator avatar gets in the mood again too!

That is too creepy. Although, it makes me wonder what the Huckleberry Hound version would look like...

Hey guys --

The pressure is on a little more than usual, as I'm trying to make a fun Haunt trip for several people that have never been to KI at all this coming Friday, Sept 24th.

The giant crowds that Haunt can draw can really kill the experience, as it turns into waiting in a few long lines for the night rather than getting to run around with a bunch of stuff to do. I know there is no way to predict attendance, but if you guys have gone for years, there are definitely trends.

From experience with Cedar Point Halloweekends, you want to avoid Saturdays at all costs, and the crowds are typically lower earlier in the season.

From Cedar Point trends, I drew that Friday, Sept 24th might be a good day to go for Haunt. The more that I think about it though, it's opening day. Does opening Haunt day tend to be swamped? Or since it's so early in the season, are people not in the Haunt mood quite yet?

I found this interesting...

Kiextreme.com- "Halloween Haunt continued its upward climb on the charts, this year ranking as the fifth-best Halloween event on the planet."

Dang, i did not know we were THIS good o.0 lol

I can't wait to go! Unfortunately, my scedule's packed (football games, competitions, etc) so i can only go select days

if only it were open on thursdays and sundays as well (sigh)

The awards are largely a tradition more than a real, polled award show. For example, Kings Island has won best kids area for what, nine years? Is it nice? Of course! Better than Disneyland's Fantasyland? Idlewild? Universal's Islands of Adventure's Seuss Landing? Millennium Force is a great coaster, yes, but the best on Earth? In my opinion, no. Perhaps we could hear from some of the veterans here who have traveled the world and see how many would list Millennium Force as the undisputed best roller coaster on the planet?

And the best amusement park, according to these awards, is Cedar Point... That one honestly should be baffling. Does it have more roller coasters than any park on Earth? Yep. Better roller coasters? I suppose that's up for debate. But what about atmosphere? Food? Shopping? Entertainment? While Cedar Point certainly has some good points in all of those categories, it doesn't win "#1" for any of them... So how can a park without award-winning dining, shopping, atmosphere, entertainment, friendliness, or cleanliness somehow achieve best overall amusement park? It's quite a leap, I can tell you that much... Love or hate Cedar Point, would you really rather visit it than Six Flags Great Adventure? Universal's Islands of Adventure? Holiday World? Disneyland?

The fact that Kings Island's Halloween Haunt ended up as the "#5 best event" is, in my opinion, due in part to hype (which we get plenty of - not saying it's always positive) and name recognition (see, Knott's; In the end, the list needs populated. Knott's Haunt is incredibly famous, and of the other parks featuring a "Halloween Haunt," Kings Island is the most recognizable by name, and I imagine that's why people vote for it).

Don't necessarily believe the Golden Ticket Awards. They're all in good fun, and certainly give one perspective on the "world's best" things (and are great press for the winning parks, who get on the list through good old-fashioned hard work, of course... Didn't Mean Streak win best wooden coaster from a similar award show a few seasons ago?). But they are not the only opinion, nor do they typically represent the opinion of the well-informed, well-traveled minority.

Simply questions & ideas to ponder, and nothing more. :) The opinions expressed are my own, and do not represent anyone else's.
