September 9, 201015 yr Repairs were under way Wednesday on the York's Wild Kingdom Zoo & Amusement Park Ferris wheel that's been closed since July 28, when the ride stopped abruptly, leaving 12 riders stranded for 45 minutes. No one was injured in the incident. York Beach firefighters, whose station is across the street from the ride, used an aerial ladder truck to rescue people who were stuck as high up as 30 feet. On Wednesday, a maintenance team appeared to be working on the mechanical gears and pulleys. The Ferris wheel is partly covered by blue tarp, its seats taken down last week due to concerns over potential high winds caused by Hurricane Earl, according to park manager Joey Turgeon. Before the Ferris wheel is operational again, custom-made parts must be installed, according to general manager Amy Wheeler.... http://www.seacoasto...09-NEWS-9090399
