SIX Brings Snow to Vallejo

Recommended Posts

Snow is in the forecast at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, where fresh layers of the wintery white stuff will be added daily to the park's biggest, longest tobogganing hill yet.

The popular attraction returned Friday as the amusement park kicked off its winter season. The fourth annual Holiday in the Park will be open weekends through Dec. 12 and daily from Dec. 18 through Jan. 2 (closed Dec. 24 and 25).

Some 40 tons of ice were used to create the glistening hill, where visitors can take turns sledding to the bottom.

"Basically we bring in a truck and put ice cubes through a chipper and blow it on to the hill," park spokeswoman Nancy Chan said. "It's about 3 feet thick."

At more than 100 feet long, Park Operations Manage Paul DeGuzman said the hill is longer, taller and faster than last year's.

"In the past, this seems to be the most popular attraction we have during the holidays," DeGuzman said. "People tend to ride this more than our biggest roller coasters during December."

That's because many Bay Area residents don't see much snow, he said....
