Guest Happymadison
I'm sure a lot of us have noticed that Drop Zone and Face Off are looking a little shabby. Does anyone know if they have been repainted or are going to be repainted any time soon ?
teenageninja
I don't know if they will be repainted soon because Kings Island is spending alot of money over the next 2 years redoing Coney. Maybe they'll paint them for 2005 too, but it's not as likely as Racers and the Coney flats.
Guest Happymadison
How much do you think it would cost to repaint them ? I mean, both aren't very intricate nor have a lot of surface to paint.
derbeast
Drop Zone and F/O do not need to be painted, they look fine. The Eiffel Tower will be painted way before they even think about painting Drop Zone or Face Off
Guest Happymadison
You think so ? Idk, i personally think they look faded.
derbeast
Go touch the Eiffel Tower next time you're in the park and look at your hand and you'll know what I'm talking about.
CYoung2003
Actually, I think DZ will get a paint job before anything. If you look at the green part, its lookin pretty bad.
HelixSpiral
It's not just that Face/Off is fading (which it is), but there are chunks of red paint missing from the supports. It looks pretty bad up close.
AZ Kinda Guy
I always thought Face/Off could use a fresh coat of paint. I always thought it looked like someone had an "accident" on the supports...A fresh coat wouldn't kill Drop Zone either. I think it will be awhile until we see Tower get one due to cost. derbeast
Okay so I got proven wrong, but Tower's paint job is really bad and it would be really expensive to paint but i hope they do it soon.
DegenRider
Face/Off does look pretty bad. DZ could use one but Id rather see the tower get one.
coasterrz
Obviously, the Eiffel Tower hasn`t been painted in a long time. The paint is severly faded if not missing in areas. I don`t recall when it was last painted, but if you are on the observation platform you can tell that it has been painted a couple of times in its lifetime. I think it could use a paintjob. Also, the supports from Face Off look pretty bad. there are a couple patchs of rust. In addition, there are very faded, almost pink areas on the supports, which I am assuming are from the paint that they used to touch up the supports after the ride was assembled. Like the ET, it too could use a paint job. Drop Zone is starting to fade as well, but in my opinion, it is not in need of a paint job as much as FO and ET. I don`t know when the park plans on repainting them. This season they are focusing on Boomerang Bay and three rides in Coney Mall (Scrambler, Monster and the Zephyr). Next season we will most likely see the remainder of Coney`s rides repainted and refurbished (which is only The Racer, Shake Rattle and Roll and The Eagles. Dodgems were repainted in 2001, aloong with the Paramount Action FX Theater. The Vortex was repainted in 2002.) Those improvements will most likely correspond with some sort of new ride. We might see the park repaint the ET, if they have enough money in the capital budget to do so.
BoObKiNoS
I dont think that drop zone or Face off will get paint jobs soon becuase they're realitively new. and plus i dont think the average guest notices that they dont look 100% good close up, becuase they dont stare at them for 60 hours a week like some of us. And just out of curiousity, how the hell do you paint drop zone.
DegenRider
^ Drew. They painted the other ones. Its not really too hard. Face off could just use a touch up or 2. The tower REALLY needs it though.
BoObKiNoS
Yea i know, im just wondering how they do it. Do they have people repelling down with paint brushes i mean, i'm just curious.
coasterrz
I`m fairly certain that when they paint their steel attractions, they don`t use a paint brush or roller. Instead, I do believe they use a spray gun to spray on the new layer of paint, at least for the final coat. As for reaching the top of the tower to paint, they most likely could ride the ring to the top as there is a catwalk around the ring that raises up the seats. derbeast
They would probably just lay drop zone on the ground to paint it, it's would just be a matter of removing a few bolts.
CYoung2003
LOL. That would be interesting. I think the way they would do it is, is raise the chair ring with the catch car a little bit and paint the bottom. When that part dries, lower it back down, hop on it and start painting the tower on up. I dont know, maybe that would be dumb but i dont see how else you would do it. m@ilman
Some painting companies have Cherry picker-type trucks that they use for tall projects like that. But, hence im not exactly sure what they would do in that scenerio...thats just my thoughts.. m@ilman
stephenmayes
That would have to be one BIG truck. 300 feet is a nice distance to go up. I dont think most fire engines go up that high Steve
derbeast
Using the catch car would make the most sense, probably the safest way too.
DegenRider
I will ask one of my contacts at PGA theres was painted recently.
Beastfreak
Well you have to remember... PGA's Drop Zone is much different than PKI's Drop Zone. They are different generation Intamin free fall towers. PGA's does not have the "claw" ring like we have, theirs are individual claws with no room to hold a person on safely. While our's has a platform to actually stand on.
pkidude03
I believe Carowinds has gotten their Drop Zone repainted for this season. Of course it is a giant drop.. not a gyro drop like PKI's.. So I'm guessing that if they do repaint Drop Zone that they might use some type of crane to lift someone up that could get all the way around it. But I think that's to much work... why not use the lift!! It would be easier.. doubt that they will. As for Face/Off.. I think it should be repainted soon before it looks like Thunder Road at Carowinds, which hasn't repainted it since '89. A touch up would help. Guest Happymadison
What other rides need repainted besides FO, DZ and the ET
WildCat
Well Top Gun needs a new paint job and so does alot of the smaller flat rides in Coney Mall last time I looked.
Guest Happymadison
Why don't they just revamp one section of the park at a time, then everything would look good eventually.
SixFlagsMasta
just about everything could always use a new coat of paint.. but i think TG needs it the most now. But probably for DZ they would just ride the ring up.. atleast that makes sense. and with Eiffel Tower they'd probably use harnesses and climb up to the high parts to paint it
BillyGilmore
It seems like every time they paint top gun, they paint it a different color. Am I right ?
