The Interpreter
...He said he especially enjoys how his work contributes to Cedar Point. "It's really nice to see that people are enjoying their vacations, because of something you were a part of, that you were able to make happen," he said.... http://www.sanduskyr...nter013111tjxml VERY nice article, with some interesting stuff, too...Well worth the read... CoastersRZ
Definitely a nice article. Few people realize the amount of work that goes into maintaining an amusement park. The amount of work that is required to get an amusement park ready for the spring is staggering. Even for smaller parks like Coney, there is a lot that needs to be done. Coney is somewhat unique in that every winter, they prepare as if a flood is going to occur. Most of the stuff at Sunlite Pool is either moved to higher ground or put on trailers for easy moving if the Ohio River waters do come up. (Sunlite Pool actually sits a couple feet lower than most of the dry park, so it is often the first place to flood.)
The Interpreter
Six Flags Over Georgia also prepares for flooding each year. There are many pictures of Great American Scream Machine inundated. It was built with such a possibility in mind. Knoebels Grove Amusement Resort also floods quite badly. CoastersRZ
Notice I said somewhat unique. I did not say totally unique. Fortunately, when Coney floods, the river usually doesn`t rise in a flash flood manor. They generally have enough time to prepare for a flood. But the later in the season a flood occurs, the more it will impact the operations of the park.
PREMiERdrum
"If there's a problem we can't fix, it might reflect on how certain guests feel about this place," Sumser said. If only that attitude reached into upper management.
The Interpreter
As opposed to "they gotta eat?"
PREMiERdrum
As opposed to "they gotta eat?" Not to get too far off topic, but have you guys been following Dan Akerson's tenure as the new CEO of General Motors? He and Kinzel could be twins. My favorite quote from Akerson so far: "People don't care about fuel economy. When it's empty, you fill it up!" Sound familiar?

Already read both, and LOVE the discussion of such at both the Ford enthusiast site (blueovalnews.com) and GM site (GMInsideNews.com) that I read. The Interpreter
Well others here who are interested in management may well want to go read those. Peter De Lorenzo is actually a close personal friend. It's a small world, after all....
