Gold Pass vs. Regular Pass

(Newb alert here!)

Hi all! I have had a good time reading through the forums here- it brings back a lot of memories of Kings Island. I have been coming every year since I was a kid- and now myself have 7 children. My kids are getting big enough for the bigger rides (woohoooo!) which makes me even more excited. I am getting ready to purchase our family passes and was considering buying just the first 4 passes for my husband and our 2 oldest as gold passes and the rest as regular season passes. Would there be any reason I would regret not getting them ALL gold passes somewhere down the line this season? I know Boomerang Bay opens early for Gold Pass holders- so do we ALL have to have the gold passes to get in early? My boys are preschool/kindergarten age and I was hoping that we could get them the regular passes. I know it sounds stingy, but with 7 kids I try to stretch our dollars as far as we can go. We are also purchasing a pass for my sister and our mother and father in law. Should we just go all gold? I'd love to hear someone elses perspective, keeping in mind that while I am not a cheapo, I do budget every penny I spend very carefully.

I think the major advantage of gold passes is the parking. If you happen to go on a day where your two kids who have the gold passes DON'T go, you'll have to pay for parking. If you have younger kids who can't drive, you can probably get away with a regular pass for them. But I think gold is the best option for anyone who might visit the park by themselves.

All of my children are well under driving age. I was thinking the same thing- that the only benefit is the parking and the early times into Boomerang Bay which we hoped on utilizing. I am wondering this- if we get there early to go into Boomerang Bay and only myself, my husband and our two oldest children have the gold passes, will they ask that we wait to go in, since the entire family does not have gold passes-?

Yes, you *all* do need gold passes to get into the early entry. Also, I believe the gold pass discount for Rivertown Junction/Breakfast with the Characters/Backyard BBQ tickets requires that each person with a discounted ticket has a gold pass, but I'm not sure about that one. Really, I think the main downside would be not all being able to use early entry (keep in mind that, if it's like last year, The Beast and Diamondback open early for gold passholders).

Well, I guess that clenches it. I just had to ask, to try and save a buck, but the convenience outweighs the $40 or so I would have saved.

Here is the list of perks. Here.

Two things that no one has pointed out , which are my two favorite perks of the Gold Pass(but might not matter in your situation.) Free admission to Halloween Haunt, and Early Ride Times.

One question I do have though. Does the driver of the car have to have a gold pass for free parking, or just anyone in the car?

Welcome to KICentral!!

My family used to arrive early and pay the up charge for the VIP which was usually $5.00. We then entered the park early for early ride times then I would depart about 20 minutes before 10 to drive the car over to the Boomerang Bay entrance and enter with the families water park needs. From there I would enter before the rest of the of the season pass folks with my Gold Pass and go pick out a seat and drop off our towels, swim suits and other water day provisions. I would then change, take a break and wait for the family to show up to help them change. When leaving we were already parked close to the entrance which was nice as we did not need to carry the heavy wet suits and towels through the park.
