March 20, 201115 yr I love historic photos. I love amusement parks. When the two come together I have to share. This is the Shoot-the-Chutes at White City in Louisville. These were mainstay rides at most early twentieth century parks. Also of note it the Figure Eight side friction coaster to the right. Check out Shorpy for other wonderful photos from the past. BTW, most of these photos are from the Library of Congress collection that they clean up and digitally adjust to improve the image quality.
March 20, 201115 yr Wow, that looks like quite the ride! Those old rides were nothing to sneeze at either...I mean, you were practically risking your life in those early days!
March 20, 201115 yr Thanks for sharing! Found this cool picture here. Amazing to me how few supports there appear to be.
March 20, 201115 yr If Leap The Dips is any measure, and I bet it is, it is also amazing how much fun those old side friction coasters were/are, given how slow they go by today's standards! Leap the Dips has an incredible first drop...all 9 feet of it. Yes, 9.
