markr Posted May 28, 2011 Share Posted May 28, 2011 You may have noticed that the Maverick queue music at Cedar Point has been drastically turned down. I checked with Park Operations and they advised me that there were complaints about the music being too loud. I for one love the music-for goodness sakes, it is a Western theme and is supposed to be loud and rowdy. I would like to hear the rest of your opinions on this subject. Maverick always has long lines, and when I'm waiting in line I don't want to sit there and have music pounded into my eardrums. I PERSONALLY have never noticed the music being too loud, but I do remember it being louder than it was at most other rides. markr Posted May 28, 2011 Author Share Posted May 28, 2011 The Millenium Force techno music ( which I love-please don't touch it.) is just as loud if not louder than the original volume of the Maverick music and apparently no one has complained about it. My opinion-if I am waiting in a long line I want some nice music as it makes the line go faster. Now let's say you get two separate, very different forms of complaints: One group says that the music is too loud and that it is disruptive and annoying at best, painful at worst. This group says that playing the music hurts their ears and makes them uncomfortable - enough so that they take the time to visit the park office to complain. A second group (clearly made up of park regulars and enthusiasts who are around often enough to notice such things) says that the music is now too quiet and that they just aren't feeling the immersion, and they say that the themeing is being neglected by turning down the music. Both are reasonable points of view, and there certainly is a happy medium in there somewhere. But if you operated the park, which group would you be more likely to alter your operations toward pleasing? That is, which is more important overall? Guest comfort, or themeing? In the end, even Disney would say guest comfort... Of course, maybe the music was at a 10, and now it's at a 3. They could probably put it at a 6 and make everyone happy... It's trial and error, and on something so trivial (no offense, because I certainly fight for a lot of trivial things, too, even on the very ride we're speaking about), they may not be too worried. 74Gibson Posted May 29, 2011 Share Posted May 29, 2011 Speaking as a musician, I think loud country is a lot harsher because of the bright and twangy guitars. It's a sound that hurts me more. Others doubtlessly will fnd the bass thump of techno worse I like Maverick's music and never found it too be too loud but other places on Frontier Trail it hurts even my... The music played in Maverick's queue wasn't specially composed by an orchestra for Cedar Point, after all. It's just a collection of Western songs. Anyway, on the subject of loud music, I loved it when I was younger. In the past year or so, I have noticed hearing loss to the point it's affecting my job, and my phone conversations with people. There are times I compensate for this by piecing the words I do hear to form the idea. I hear someone talk to me, but it sounds like mumbling a lot of the time. What I'm getting at is loud music is enjoyable, but there may be long term consequences. I had trouble hearing the radio at work, and even now the music at the front entrance is so loud it hurts.
