Question about Backlot Stunt Coaster

My 12 yr old daughter just started riding coasters this year, she has always been scared of them. She rode Adventure Express and Flight Deck for the first time this week. She thought AE was rough and is still not sure about FD, it made her stomoach turn. She's thinking about trying Backlot Stunt Coaster on our next visit but she is a little worried about the part of the track she can't see inside the building. Can anyone give me some info on this coaster so I can help her decide if this is one she wants to try right now? Unfortunately I have never riden Backlot so I have no idea how this ride actually is. I always go with her, especially on her first rides, but I just would like to hear opinions from people who have experienced the ride. Thanks for any help you all can give me.

My very first roller coaster was actually Backlot. So I have some experience!

First of all, the overall ride isn't that intense. The only part that might scare your daughter is the launch, because you get very dizzy at the top of the helix. The rest of the ride is fun and exciting. The indoor part isn't that bad at all, just a few turns and hills. The ride is slower than Flight Deck, and a lot shorter, so I would think she would love it.

The only intense part of the ride is the first helix. It Is a little jolty around the part of the ride before the subway tunnel. Also the fire effect and the helicopter effect have frightened some before.

It's a good little coaster and it's over with before you know it so I would say yes a nice beginner coaster.

Tips for Backlot:

1) Have your head back against the headrest for the launch on your first ride. The launch isn't too intense, but it's a good idea for the first time on a launched coaster.

2) Some dizziness after the helix is normal.

3) It might be helpful to tell her some of the theme (car chase, running from the bad guys) to explain the fire, gunshots, etc.

4) The tunnel after the second launch is TOTALLY dark. The dark part is not rough at all, in fact it's quite fun, just dark.

5) Exiting the tunnel towards the queue line overpass can be frightening the first time. Make sure to watch the faces while in line so she knows what to expect there.

This ride is one of the smoothest in the park. It has some great dips and transitions. I agree with your daughter that AE is rough and FD turns my stomach. For me, the pain/thrill ratio is too high on these rides and I don't bother with them.

It's fun to watch kids' progression through the rides. Last summer, my daughter started the year never having ridden anything bigger than The Beastie, and was a Diamondback junkie by the end of the season. Once she realizes that fear is part of the fun, and embraces the fear, there will be no stopping her.

As someone who opened this ride in 2005 I can tell you more than you would ever want to know about the ride...but to answer your question that inside the tunnel is not bad at all. There are a few S turns followed by a slight dip (drop) to the left before coming up and hitting the launch out of the bilboard.

As others have said, the launch is probably the most intense part of the ride because of the G's that you pull in the helix as you climb the parking garage. Just be sure to keep your head back and it's smooth sailing from there.

my 5 yr old granddaughter finally made it to the 48 inch mark. last weekend we did The Beast in the 2nd seat. then to backlot in the back seat. over to flightdeck for 2 rides, 2nd and front seats. Adventure Express, front seat. then racer in the front seat. she says no more kiddie rides for her.

i finally have my newest ride warrior as her 10 yr old brother has rode a couple big rides, but really shows no interest.

Aside from the 2 in PS, my daughter (8 YO) is terrified (Literally) of every Coaster except for BLSC. She absolutely LOVES this ride. It is very smooth and the darkness is what makes it fun. She should be fine

The dark part of the ride is quite predictable of what is to happen if you take a few looks at the outside of the tunnel first. Oh yeah, and if some guest says "Did you know there's a loop in the tunnel?" just ignore him/her as this is NOT true.

She was really excited that we got to see the first ride of WindSeeker, that was the reason we went today. She also got to see Don Helbig for the first time and she was thrilled. Well, I can guarantee you will be remembered in our house!! I know my husband about fell over laughing when I told him about your method. I think it took some of her fear away when we were on the ride because I looked at her and said, "Remember what Snowman said to do!" She was too busy laughing to worry about the ride, thanks again.

Fog was used prior to entering the tunnel after the helicopter scene. Search for a BLSC POV on youtube, and you may run across a video where everything is operational, including the fog effect.

Funny, you'd think they'd take the sign down. Or at least cover the word "fog". If you think about it warning people about something that isn't coming is kind of funny.

Why not have a little fun and warn guests about the huge water spraying fire pit or animatronic machine gun weilding Dinosaurs in the tunnel!
