CSI: Miami

I do believe that you are refering to the original CSI. CSI: Miami is on Monday nights at ten. CSI, on Thursday will in fact feature a roller coaster accident. It is my understanding that they had trouble finding a park willing to let them crash a roller coaster, because of fear of negative publicity from the show.

Although I'm mixing fantasy with reality here, I'm worried about the impact this highly rated show will have on the public, especially after Saturday's fatal accident at SFNE. I know this Thursday's episode features an "accident" as a result of crimial intent...but with the public's (mainly media) 'coasters are dangerous' mentality, I wonder if Markey will pick up a little steam.

By the way, I read tonight that Intamin's (and possibly other manufacturers) T-bar design might be outlawed in Mass.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

May 06 09:00pm

Series/Drama, 59 Mins.

"Turning the Screws", Episode #421.

A roller coaster crash kills six people, and investigators must determine whether it was an accident or foul play.

Yes it is kind of bad timing, but there is no way that they will change it now because of fierce competition for that particular spot.

Yeah, I don't expect a programming change or anything. I just hate the idea of a seed being planted in the public's mind. This season reminds me already of the 1999 season. Too many accidents.

By the way, someone from the show was visiting RRC, asking some of the enthusiasts for their opinions about the show.

I have the dish, too. That's how I'm taping it.

Well, people do get scared by watching fictional shows on tv. Take this one ER for example. They had an episode where the terrorists got a hold of the smallpox virus and set it loose. What happened afterward? I find myself getting another booster shot at the doctors office, because my parents are scared.

I hope this wont affect pki's business too much.

I'll bet that most of the general public have no idea about the accident at SFNE.

If the public watches the news, or reads newspapers, they do. From Saturday night on, everyone from CNN to the locals was carrying a story. Some of the reports are already linking Intamin's recent fatalities.

Also, usually about this time of year....one of the TV news magazines will feature a report showing some of our biggest and best coasters, and then argue their danger; using stats from smaller and older (and usually travelling) rides.

I have to agree that this is poor timing. Even though the show is dealing with criminal intent, it still doesn't help with all of the bad media attention lately. And, yeah, I would agree with the post above that if you have watched the news, you have probably heard about the accident at SFNE. But, also remember, this is not the only accident that has occured this year that has received lots of attention.

I actually never heard the news about the accident this past weekend on the news. It was only when I checked Coasterbuzz on Monday that I found out about the incident. I do find it quite odd that there have been so many incidents on Intamin style rides recently. However, that doesn`t mean I`m going to stop riding Intamin rides. I might think twice before stepping on an Intamin ride with a T-bar though. Obviously, there might be some sort of problem with the Intamin T-bar. I would like to know what exactly caused the accident at SFNE.

I can't help but notice that all of these people who have been involved in these accidents were of.... shall we say... "unusual body proportion" as the KI safety warning signs dictate.

Unfortunetly each of these parks probably had some sort of warning at the entrance to these rides similar to what Kings Island has, warning people of unusual body proportions that they may not fit on the ride. However they are able to get in and the bar is able to lock. It should really be designated whether these restraints are down properly, through some sort of training in depth on the operators part. Perhaps a test seat where people of large/unusual proportion must check with an operator for proper fit before entering the line, much like Tomb Raider and Delirium test seats.

I, personally, feel safe in the simple T-bar restraints, however, being a skinnier person, I am also fully covered by the bar and not worried. Though, perhaps a larger 'T', like the ones on the B&M hypers and a deeper, more encapsulating seat would allow for greater protection. If these rides are open at parks when I visit, I probably won't even think twice about getting on or about the T-bars unless I see someone stuggling with it.

I, too, prefer the T-bar restraints. It was the investigation of this very accident that has led Mass. officials to

consider outlawing T-bars. (again, on ALL rides, not just Intamin's)

I don't use Coasterbuzz, because on my screen the background is black, and the letters are black; making it impossible to read, and I refuse to pay $$ to just change the screen color. That said, it was CNN that I first heard the report from, and that was early Saturday evening. Virtually every other news outlet, including the newspapers, quickly followed.

There was one accident, featuring similar resraints a couple weeks ago. Hydro, in the UK, tossed a rider...but she was the first "skinny" rider to meet her fate this way.

I agreee for the most part though.....Intamin hates fat people! smile.gif

I never felt unsafe either...

I've ridden coasters w/T-bars from 2 manufacturers, and I prefer the B&M design. First, the seat are deeper, and they are slightly tilted...making standing up (or more importantly, straightening out) nearly impossible. B&M also uses that little "horn" between the riders' legs. When the bar closes, there is no way for a rider to get around that restraint. I shouldn't say never, 'cause ya never know....

Cheap plug or not, it doesn't matter. I still think it's pretty cool. Besides, they mentioned Six Flags as well. Anyway, it's still cool! I wonder if there will be more of those candid mentions of The Beast in the shows since it is The Beast's 25th this year.
