gforce1994
Last season (2014), I had a gold pass at KI. When time came round to renew passes, I pressed the "renew" option for the platinum pass. It allowed me to go through the payment process, and the paper ticket at the end stated that my card was now active as a platinum pass. However, since this card is physically a "gold pass", am I able to, while at KI, go to the season pass processing center, and have it exchanged for the platinum that I paid for?
The Interpreter
Yes, you are. As always, confirm with the park...
gforce1994
That is somewhat comforting.
The Interpreter
Others in the same situation have reported their gold pass scans as platinum...
jdf21972
Yes stop by at any ticket window or guest services and they will exchange it for the platinum pass.
gforce1994
I'm wondering what caused that to occur. Also, say I'd went to Kings Dominion with the gold pass working as a platinum, would the other parks still accept it?
jsus
A pass barcode is a pass barcode is a pass barcode. Likely just like the souvenir cups that use the same barcode schema between the parks, the passes do as well. What this means is that when a park employee scans a pass to add something to it (a season pass record to a card, an all-day refill for a cup), the system only cares that you have 1) a valid barcode and 2) pay for it. End result? To the POS or admissions system, you scanned a cup (doesn't care where it's from) or a pass (doesn't care what's printed on it). So, you could theoretically take a CP souvenir cup and have it scanned at KI with no problem. An employee could give you the wrong card, because the system doesn't care what's printed on it.. It just wants the barcode number. This also means that when you upgraded your pass, you simply changed the type of pass recorded in the system. The admissions system now knows that you have a Platinum Pass. It doesn't care that your pass says Gold and is colored faux-gold. Your pass is just as valid as a Platinum pass with a Gold card as it would be as a Platinum.. Well, anywhere it gets scanned. Once scanned, you would still be granted admission to any park or parking lot as you are entitled access with a Platinum pass. There is nothing wrong with your Gold card actually being for a Platinum pass, in terms of validity. The only issue you'll run into is when 1) employees get confused, or 2) you try to attend a Platinum-only event, like Cedar Point's ride nights and morning ERT. I personally had a hole-punch in my CP Platinum pass cause it to crack and start to delaminate. A simple trip to the season pass center had them 1) scan my pass, 2) tell the system they were giving me a new one, 3) scan a new pass, 4) hand the pass to me and I was on my way. All this being said, I would simply drop by the pass center when it's not busy on your next visit. There is no reason for them to give you any hassle on this.
