Legend Rider
I just reviewed the POV video of Raven and Legend. Legend (I think that is the one with the double helix right) looks cool, but kind of short. I the headchoppers look great. I looked at the video for Raven though, and it looks awesome. It looks like it has ejector airtime, and I like how it flies through the woods. I mean, Beast goes through the woods, but there is a really wide area on either side of the track that is clear. Raven reminds me of the speederbike scene from Return of the Jedi. I could have the names mixed up, but on that Discovery Kids thing, they have nine wooden coaster POVs, and of those nine, they have SOB, Beast, Raven and Legend. And one of those, Im pretty sure it was Raven, looks like it could possibly earn its way to my top five. Ill HAVE to go down and take a look next season. wow, you seem to be coming to grips... okay then, you need to email me... i need to tell you some stuff... that is forbidden for me to speakst of... TheKlockster
Yeah - I think it listed Raven as like 1:20 or something. But it looks REALLY cool. I wasn't planning on taking a trip out there next season, but that video of Raven changed my mind. I won't ever turn down a chance to ride any coaster. I just dont think Legend looks better than SOB. But I will probably like it. But I seriously think Raven could earn a long term position on my top 5.

LOL but seriously get on both, and get on their website *cough* www.holidayworld.com and check it out, you can interperet the hours map... pick a pink or blue day... they typically are better, but if you dont mind an earlier close time (park ALWAYS opens at 10) come in may or october, NO LINES! Pirate of PKI
Yea, the records speak for themselves when considering The Beast is still a top wooden coaster. Sure, it isn't what it used to but of course it's not always going to be #1... but it is still my favorite wooden coaster along with Son of Beast. The-Snapper
The Beast will always be the best WOODEN coaster because its simply The Beast. BUT the ride itself isnt even comparable to how great Thunderhead and Raven are. There just more fun with no brakes and a lot of air time and laterals. Delirium_Guy
Ahhh, this debate surfaces once again. I happen to fall in the group of people who think The Beast is far from a top tier coaster. Before you start to flame away, I've ridden over 100 wood coasters in this country so, I've had my share of experiences to compare. I certainly respect The Beast for what it is and the impact that it had on the industry, but there are many other rides out there that out perform it. As it operates today, its nothing more than an overgrown mine train. If it weren't for the helix, I'm not sure there would be too many redeeming qualities the ride could offer me. Even night rides do little for my experience on Beast, as I find the course to be fairly well lit. Overall, I find the ride to be a snoozer. Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion. For those of you that haven't ridden any wood coasters outside of Kings Island, or OHIO for that matter....I encourage you to try to get out and experience some other rides! I agree with most on here, the wood coasters at HW are FAR ABOVE anything the wood coasters at PKI have to offer. I'm sorry, I don't like having to defensively ride my coasters. I agree with AZ Kinda Guy, you should be able to sit down and enjoy a coaster ANYWHERE......without having to worry about getting the crap beat out of you. Yes, I'm well aware thats part of the charm of a wood coaster, in fact thats what I like about them, but no ride should ride the way that Son of Beast or Beast do. The one thing that annoys me when reading these kind of threads are the people who think that records automatically equal GREATEST RIDE EVER! Son of Beast may be the tallest, fastest, blah blah blah......but it also ranks around 80 on my list of wood coasters. Bigger does not equal better. Its been proven time and time again. Again, there are a few perfect examples in Indiana......Raven and Cornball come immediately to mind. The Beast will always be a sentimental favorite for some and thats perfectly OK. Please dont harp on those of us who strongly disagree though, especially if you haven't ridden anything OUTSIDE of Kings Island! How can some of you sit here and say that these other rides suck if you've never ridden them? Oh well, to each their own. Oh, as a random comment to something that someone else asked earlier. You are no alone. I've ridden Ghostride, its a fantastic ride.....definitely one of CCI's best! - Todd
TheKlockster
I will admit, I haven't done any other ones outside PKI. But I will probably at least quadruple my coaster count next season. I am going to HW, SFKK, CP, Strickers Grove and hopefully Geauga Lake next season. Perhaps more. And I will be very surprised if any coasters at any of those parks push SOB out of my Number 1 position. Millenium Force MIGHT, but Ill have to wait and see. I know records don't make the rides great. I think Adventure Express is great. I love it and always make it a point to ride it when I am at the park. I have at least as many rides on AE as I do Beast or SOB. But the fact that SOB is a record holder, and my favorite is purely coincidental. The rides I am most looking forward to riding in the future are Phantom's Revenge at Kennywood, Tremors! at Silverwood and Millenium Force at Cedar Point. If SOB ever gets bumped, you'll be the first to know!

Legend Rider
RAVEN doesnt suck at all. It short but you dont lose speed at all through out the ride!! Its amazing! two words... Fifth Drop... Can I get a Shout out for all the Raven 5th Drop Enthusiasts? UH? Snapper? Swinger6? Swinder6 knows what im talking about, riding in strange and unusual (but not wrong) ways and causing us to get so bruised it hurts so bad. but we rode like 32 times in a row, wow, and in the night too! wow! so really, raven doesnt suck, its an airtime machine! and it is proudly celebrating his 10th birthday, go down to holiday world and give the raven a spin... and gawk at the new train and new transfer area, it is supposed to be asl large as the statiopn, maybe as wide too, check out the webcam... Go Raven: Taking abck our spot, give it up Shivering Timbers, ACEers Beware, just due to the fact that there was no SRM, doesnt call grounds for dissing a ride, does an event actually change a ride? except for a grand openning type thing? i have also received word as many of you have, no SRM-2005, man! i hope and pray now for the kochs to come around and give us ACEers an event to remember, SRM-2006, and it oculd be called "it starts again" it was awful at 2004, friday was excellent, Halloween Night, all rides in Halloween were open, nothing more, free food at Kringles Kafe, but hey free food is good food, most people stayed near the legend, free drinks super close to a ride... hallowswings was dreamy, so many colorful lights, a friend of mine counted about 1500 lights, and the art work is awesome, not to mention the ropelight bats... SWEET! I arrived on night two, and was not greeted so well, i was instructed to head to the picnic grove and stay there, as i walked by, i noticed the rides were not open, pul revere's midnight ride was not even light up, which was going to be it, Liberty Launch, and Eagles Flight open while Raven and Legend too, it was "4th of July Night" and we just walked to the grove to get food, it was good, but after a while, no more food, im gonna pop! so we were contained like animals at this point, ride operators and management instructing us to stay in the grove. Mrs Koch got on the podium, and as many people were highlly anticipating a huge celebration, and the unveiling of a possible coaster... ...sadly it turned the other way, she had no choice but to end the night of SRM(S)-2004 early... it was tragic, but she really had no other choice. it was awful, and everybody's hearts sank... But regardless of any problems like that, it is still the greatest wooden coaster, or any roller coaster, i have come across by far. I know i have said things about SoB, but yeah it does hurt me, and the structure does look like but i am not going to be disrespectful to it because it is painful, i can respect something and not like it, like the dentist! SoB has hurt me in the past, but im not as mad as one of my friends who said he wouldnt get on it again, unless god himself showed up and proclaimed "it is now smooth" Ha! like that would happen, Klockster, even you must admit, it is rough... but the point im trying to make is that even though you might have gotten a "short" ride on raven, which is true, if it could only be longer, wow! but the raven IS short, that is its claim, as Snapper said, it never loses speed, in fact it gains speed toward the end, keeping you awake throughout the entire ride... roaring into the station isnt to bad either, and a small brake run is not a bad thing, sure if they are too small they can stop really fast... but look at it this way... who here has never said... "wow beast has a long brake shed" if you havent, what is wrong with you? Beast is a Great Ride, but still, its not my Number one, Raven has a spot in my heart for the #1 Spot, The Legend gets my Number Two, and the rest kinda changes at any whim... Thanks for Time

TheKlockster
Those lights are bizarre. It seems they always come on as i come back to the station. Probably 80% of my Beast rides have been at night, and when I come back, i see the light behind the fan turn on just before I enter the station. But I didn't realize till one time I was in the station what it was. It makes that wierd sound and the lights start moving around, and I was like WTF? I have no idea what they add to the theming. I think SOB's structure is stunning to look at especially off at a distance. Thats about as far as it goes. Legends theming is definitely superior.....seeing as how Son of Beast has virtually nothing! coasterdime
I agree, Todd. The theming on Legend definitely bests that on SoB. Legend's station is done pretty well...with things like a schoolhouse bell and even a chalk board. As Legend's train crests the lift, there are loud speakers that howl as the train begins to drop. It really DOES seem like the Headless Horseman is right behind you....

TheKlockster
Ok, first of all Son of Beast holds more than 3 records, it holds 7! Second of all you have to know how to ride a wood coaster. Most people tense up when it gets rough, if you loosen up at the rough parts, believe it or not it wont be as bad. Finally, the smoothest seat on the ride is 6-2. Thank you. LONG LIVE SOB! I noticed that. Unlike most coasters, SOB is rougher in the front. Records SOB holds 1 - Tallest Wood Roller Coaster 2 - Fastest Wood Roller Coaster 3 - Second Longest Wood Roller Coaster 4 - Only Looping Wood Roller Coaster 5 - Tallest Wood Roller Coaster Drop 6 - Second Tallest Wood Roller Coaster Drop 7 - Tallest Free-standing Wooden Structure Lucky seven for SOB
