TR: 4/3 Preview Day

Let me start off by saying, sometimes you've just got to sit back, relax, and enjoy a ride's themeing for 15 minutes to really appreciate it. Read on to find out why.

Started out the day waking up at 5am. Left my house at 6:30 (Indiana-time) and arrived at the park by 10:15 (Ohio-time). A little under 3 hrs...not bad for making a couple unnecessary stops on the way.

Got out of the car and headed to get my pass processed...Walked right in! As I walked out of the season pass office, though, the line was out into the old tram circle. Talk about luck!

After I went through the metal detectors, I realized I had a cell phone, a huge thing of keys and tons of keychains, and various other metal objects. Guess what? No beep. Makes ya feel safe, doesn't it?

I headed straight into the park, picked up my annual keepsake: The park map. It was at this moment, I felt I was back home. Seeing the Tower, the fountain, and being offered to have my picture taken by hundreds of different people (I love you guys!)...I was home. After that, I headed out for my first ride of the season...towards The Beast. Had to take the long way (I. Street -> Coney -> Rivertown) to get to the coaster, though, since the path to Rivertown via I. Street was closed off.

Beast was pretty much a walk-on...only waiting for one train to go through so I could get front seat. After The Beast, I headed on over to TR:TR. I power-walked through the queue, into the building, and straight into the pre-show setup. I told the ride-op that was the first time I've never even stood one second waiting in line. I guess I should've kept my mouth closed. Can you say jinx? The ride went well...better then ever, in fact. It was as the ride was braking where the problem came up. The ride wouldn't lock into place. We ended up sitting there for, I'm guessing around 15 minutes. It was quite fun. Like I said earlier: I've never really gotten to appreciate the ride's themeing up until today.

After we got off TR:TR, I headed to Vortex. Again, only a 1 or 2 train wait for front seat. Vortex is always a highlight of my day. I must say, however, I was a bit ****ed when I was stapled by the ride-op. Just a hint: Don't do that to me on Vortex! After Vortex, it was time for Flight of Fear. I entered the queue and saw a few people were standing just outside the building. I was worried the line was going to be huge (as it always is, it seems). I was wrong. None of the turnstyles were opened up, so once you went into the building, it was pretty much straight into the UFO. So again, hardly any wait. For front seat, I think my total wait was around 15 minutes. Best part of FoF: The lights were ON! It's a totally new experience when you can see everything...and I LOVED it!

After FoF, I headed back to Vortex. Yet again, no wait. This time, I felt like riding in the back. I made sure to blow myself up this time to avoid being crushed again by that darned ride-op. Success! And darn....Can you talk about air-time in that back seat? I love it! Back seat all the time now on Vortex!

After Vortex, I hit TR:TR one more time for kicks, since the line was empty. After that, it was off to Action Zone! First up, Delirium. Great as ever! Then, I hit Drop Zone. After that, I headed to Top Gun and SOB...Both were closed at the time. Guess that calls for another ride on Duhlee

After that, SOB was open, so I headed over there. Waited about 30 minutes for front seat. Longest wait all day! Not too shabby. SOB was rough as ever...bad way to end the day, but I had to get to my car and prepare for my 3 hr. drive back home...the drive ended up being an hour and a half. Guess I sped a little. *oops*

It was fun...and it was great to be back *home*

What time did you ride Vortex the first time? It might have been me who stapled you. For your safety - I push down and then pull up. I was able to get extra clicks on probably 30 or 40 people today - at least. Of course most of them made that odd grunting noise when I did it - but it is for your safety.

I rode (rough estimate here), sometime around noon.

PKIVortex, I wish I would've brought my camera...but I didn't want to risk losing it on a ride, and since I was by myself today, nobody could've held the camera for me.

I'll probably be taking pictures thoughout the season, though...keep an eye out!

On Vortex today I did staple about 5 to 10 people(that I can remeber). Like TheKlockster said, its our job to get you(the people) in as snugged as possiable. Like in some case's, little kids that are nervis and scared. But Reclaimer, nice tripreport.

Like I said, it's no problem really. I know you guys are doing us a favor, in reality. Don't take offense to me calling whoever a "darned ride-op that ****ed me off"...it's all in good fun.

I wanted to go to "rideing buddy' but a birthday came up and I had no ride I wish I could of went.. maybe next time He done all the stuff I would of done Only thing is I would of rode FOF and SOB 5 times

My 3 year old wanted to ride the WTB water ride. It was sunny and the elephant wasn’t shooting water so I thought it would be harmless. We got drenched! I had to buy him a pair of sweat pants $17 thank you very little PKI. All in all it was a great day.

When I was a Vortex crew member back in '01. I never actually stapled anyone. I always pulled up on the OSTR. The only time I ever pushed down was when the OSTR was up way to high on the guest. I for one do not like riding any ride if the restraint is so tight on my body that it makes the ride uncomfortable. Yes I do pull it down far enough, just not so far that it hurts.

Yeah, I'm fine with being safe and making sure the restraints are keeping me in...I just want to be able to breathe. I can remember last year, I accidentally stapled myself a couple times as we were heading up the lift.

Why did you take the long way around? Going through HB into RvT is alot faster. Well, now that I think of it maybe you wanted to see IJST, but if you wanted to get to Beast ASAP the Coney way would not be the fastest.

Hit the nail on the head. I had to see IJST since I wasn't able to make the tours.

I didn't mind taking the long way around, though...I got to see the Diner, too.

I agree with PKIVortex, it is not necessary to staple people on the ride. It is not for my own safety. Two more clicks on the OTSR's is not making a difference when you were already secure to begin with. Now, I will agree that the ride ops need to step in when someone has not pulled it down far enough, but if it is at a comfortable level and is acceptably secure, then stapling is only going to tick someone off. Last time I was stapled on a ride, it hurt like hell and I had to stop afterwards to recouperate from the pain. This is not acceptable or comfortable as a guest and nearly ruined the rest of my day. Not cool.

If a ride op feels the need to staple someone, he or she is wanting to think they are a big shot. The last full week of august pki was open last year they were running the front side of racer only. This b**** i mean girl stapled me down big time, i got ****ed and made them release the lap bars for i could get off, i gave her a dirty look at exited the station. Clockster, you think you are working ttd?

I don't think I am a big shot. You can think what you want or get ****ed off at me - whatever you want. It does not matter. If you are riding Vortex, your restraint WILL be secure against you. If it is possible to get another click - you WILL recieve another click. It is for your safety - if you want to whine and cry about it go right ahead - it won't stop us. We don't do it because we are jackasses who think we are all powerful - we do it because it is our job. Don't like it - go ride something like Troika or Express, with loose restraints.

Dude, its intertia. When you go down the drop, the otsr will naturally go down closer.

^ Whatever makes you feel better about cheating death and breaking safety rules. That is why they remove rides or add extra precaution devices on rides.

actually when there is acceleration it will go back. Notice when your in a car and floor it you get pinned, when going up a hill you lose velocity.
