screamingnight Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 I was on the train the other day and me and my mom sat in the middle seats. Some big smelly guy sat next to us and he said that he works for pki. He said that they are going to take down Vortex. Has anyone heard this rumor?
moore Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Yea, they have to take it down b/c it's sinking! Seriously, Vortex isn't going anywhere.
DeLorean Rider Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Are we ever going to get off the topic of Vortex being removed?!?! Hey heres a fun fact, other than the station what part of The Bat is still being used on The Vortex?
CoastersRZ Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Some of the acess stairs are recycled from one of The Bat`s lifts. What is it with this crazy rumor about The Vortex. People keeping asking about Vortex sinking every month is seems like!
KIBeast Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Actually, the original poster said nothing about Vortex sinking, just being removed. I don't want to see it go, but with PKI, you never know. I didn't think that they would remove King Kobra since it received a new paint job two years before its' demolition, but we all know what happened there.

No one ever thought they would remove the Flyers either, but look what happened. One day it will be there and the next it is removed. Nothing is safe anymore.
Ups and Downs Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 The big smelly guy should try Old Spice Red Zone so he doesn't stink this summer.
flying eagles Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 First of all Vortex isn't sinking, and I have heard from a couple of higher end managment that Vortex will be removed by the 2007 season.
screamingnight Posted August 9, 2005 Author Posted August 9, 2005 If they are going to take down Vortex in 2007 I will be very mad!
bdboy007 Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 why take out one of the best coasters in the park?
coastergirl Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 If they would just redo the trains and give them lap bars like FoF and SOB it would make Vortex so much better. My head gets so bumped around on the ride it's not even funny. Other then that it's a great ride. On a side note, Vortex was stuck today with 2 trains on the track. One on the first lift and one on the second. Does anyone know how long they were stuck? We gave up and got out of line after about 5 minutes. It was so hot today I felt so sorry for them stuck in the sun.
King Bowser Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Oh please not this rumor about Vortex being taken out....It's Not Going To Happen!!! Vortex is here to stay people!
coastergirl Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 why would you give up after 5 minutes? Because we are in a family competition with our children. We are tracking who rides the most rides this year and standing in line for more then that and not knowing when it would come back up is not practical. You can't win a competition just standing around!! Also the lines were not very long today and I have already been on it 9 times this year.

matth Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 On a side note, Vortex was stuck today with 2 trains on the track. One on the first lift and one on the second. Does anyone know how long they were stuck? The train on the second lift is still there; we simply can't figure out how it got there. ..matt
TRTR Guy Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 ^ LOL, I hate when Vortex gets stuck with a train on the first and second lift, pain in the butt to figure out how to get that train off the second lift.
coastergirl Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 The train on the second lift is still there; we simply can't figure out how it got there. ..matt I may not know the correct term for where it was stuck but I think you know exactly what I was talking about. I do have other things in my life that are a little more important then coaster terminology.
CoastersRZ Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I`m assuming you were refering to the block brakes before the corkscrew?
coastergirl Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Right before the corkscrew is where the second train was stuck. Thank you. Thanks for not being a smart A** and knowing what I was talking about.
KIBeast Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I was about to say, what second lift hill? But, you're talking about the MCBR. Vortex won't get new trains. Too expensive for such an old ride. The reason it was done to FOF was to make it rideable.
bdboy007 Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I still remember the rumor in the 80's that The Beast was being removed because it was unstable, where do these rumors come from?
Admiral Ackbar Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I heard that in 2007 Vortex is getting retracked by Vekoma, and getting Vekoma floorless trains and a cable lift instead of a lift chain. Also it may get two new inversions!
Admiral Ackbar Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I can't say but I do have my sources. It's true I tell ya!
KIBeast Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 They guy who works the cotton candy cart told him so. So, it must be true!
Admiral Ackbar Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Did he tell you too? I also heard it from the Lemon Chill guy. While we are on the topic - Dippin Dots guy told me that Flight of Fear is becoming an outdoor coaster next year - with the new MTV Soundwave theme.
DeLorean Rider Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 If they would just redo the trains and give them lap bars like FoF and SOB it would make Vortex so much better. My head gets so bumped around on the ride it's not even funny. Other then that it's a great ride. You realize that is almost impossible. The Vortex is Arrow technology, and fof is premere. They couldnt "re-do" the trains, they would have to purchase new ones from premere. Its not worth it, they would have to contract the redesigning of the trains. Plus if they did do that, its going to be one more ride that larger guests can not ride. The ride is fine how it is, just sit in the front of a car and quit complaining. If it hurts your head then dont ride it.
coastergirl Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Plus if they did do that, its going to be one more ride that larger guests can not ride. The ride is fine how it is, just sit in the front of a car and quit complaining. If it hurts your head then dont ride it. First off maybe the "larger guests" should go on a diet so they can fit properly into the cars. If they are that much over weight it probably is not safe for them to be riding in the first place. Secondly I was not complaining about the ride. In my original post I said it was a great ride so back off
coasterfreak75 Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 People stop fighting! At PKI the new focus is Hollywood. Now name a better spot in the park to put a new one of a kind coaster that will draw crowds like a Hollywood blockbuster. The best spot in the park is Vortex. That coaster has the ultimate Kodak picture spot, right there at the boomerang. Much less the ride is almost 20 years old, it did open in 1987. With Arrow gone, well for the most part gone, parts can't be the most inexpensive in the world. Why not get rid of it and make room for something new. I love Vortex but I'm all for something better and newer.
