Trying riding in 7-1 (7th car front row) I find the ride smoother there then anywhere else.

I am confused-7th car front row? can't picture that-am I missing something? to me it means the same thing. I have always ridden in the middle or the back. 7th car to me means toward the back-

I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box here....

7-1 (or seventh car front row) means that it is the front row of the seventh car. Not the front row of the train. Occasionally, you will hear the driver of the coaster come on over the PA and say 5-2 for example. Usually, when they do this, they are letting the operators on the platform know that they have to check a kid`s height in that specific row. Some of the park`s coasters even have the cars numbered (Racer, and Beast come to mind off the top of my head).

Gotcha. I'll try that next year-still gonna devise something to cushion the shock-I'm not gonna get any taller!!

You might also want to try 5-1...the seat around which Mr. Toomer designed the ride. It is here where the least banging occurs, and where the most float during airtime moments can be found.

And no, Vortex isn't even the slightest bit banging, compared to the old Shockwave at Six Flags Great America in Chicago, or even worse, the Steel Phantom at Kennywood. There are those who make similar complaints about the Great American Scream Machine in New Jersey, but I have now ridden that so many times I find less banging there than in Mason. Usually.

I gotta agree about Scream Machine. Having just ridden it a few weeks ago, I loved it actually! You'll remember, Interpreter, that I used to adore the darn thing back in the days when we'd hit Coaster Celebration. While the rest of my group had it beat the hell out of them, I enjoyed a pretty smooth ride. The brake was off coming out of the first loop and the thing was hauling serious ass. Definitely my preference to Vortex, outside the fantastic first drop that Vortex has. Oddly enough Shockwave, identical in layout to Scream Machine, WAS a piece of crap. Go figure. I never had the problems that you did with the Phantom either. Its funny how everyone has a different ride experience.

Vortex rough??? Haaa!!!

If you ever rode Drachen Fire, you would know Vortex is not rough, actually you would consider it glass smooth for an Arrow multi Looper, although Tenn Tornado is the smoothest Arrow multi looper I have ever been on.

I rode Drachen Fire 7 times in a row without moving on the train. I felt like I had a concusion afterwards. Still that ride had a great layout and was a blast. Shame that its issues never got worked out.

I still to this day have not figured out how you can design a coaster yet not ride them or even like ridding them. No wonder a lot of Toomers coasters have roughness issues because of the transition from element to element and that he never rode them.

Im going to go bend some wire and make inversions to honor Mr. Toomer.
