With the buzz and rumors that have been going around about the incident (A friend called me and told me 2 people died, which has been proven false), I'd hope they would put out a release

I was in the park today from 4:45 until 6:30. mainly for the final run of the Nickelodeon Celebration Parade. After walking through the front gate, I got my tickets for Speed Lane, and chose Drop Zone. As I walked to the ride, a couple execs walking past. As I was on Drop Zone, I noticed a train parked on the lift hill of SOB, and some first aid vehicles.

I then went to the Parade, and then the Eiffel Tower, where I saw some ambulances leaving/coming in the park from the observatory. This didn't seem like just one person was ill on the ride for all the attention Son of Beast was receiving.

I haven't heard all the details yet, and I understand how the park, incluing Maureen, doesn't want heresay to get out. Let's hope everyone isn't hurt too bad. Has Son of Beast given its last rides? That's too soon to tell. I personally hope not.

I said before that SOB was one lawsuit from big problems.

Unfortunately, this could have been from something as trivial as a bird or other animal camping out on the track and getting greased by a 70mph train. Unfortunately, where there are injuries, there are state inspection officials, and ambulance-chaser attorneys ready to cash in.

This will spiral into an absurd snowball. Months from now, Dyer, Garafolo, Mann, & Schultz will be advertising "If you feel that you have been injured in the past by this coaster, call our 'tough, smart' attorneys that will get you a quick cash settlement." then, admission prices begin going up with the price of oil....

Unfortunate day. But, from what I've heard, the SOB staff seemed to do what their training told them to do... and for that, a huge pat on the back.

also, just to point to something that someone posted earlier... the media may be making this more than it is.... not to say that people did not get hurt. But it may be 4-5 people... not all. Someone who works at the park may be able to confirm this, but if an incident such as this occurs, and you were a party in it.... you don't really have an option as to whether or not you go to the hospital to get checked out. It may be manditory to have everyone checked out to make sure that there are not injuries "showing up" weeks after... from people who were in another section of the park when it happened.

Not saying no one got hurt... just that it may not have been all 25.

This is terrible news. Let's hope everyone, including Sonny, is okay and can return to normal soon.

I wonder how accurate these articles are, though? The media hypes things so much anymore that the "blood and broken bones" in the article could very well have been bumps and bruises.

I know when the news first broke, it said up to 25 people were injured. It seems now that the number has gone down to 20 in the more recent articles. Who knows what the final number will be when the info is all sorted out by PR.

Its such a good ride though. If Cedar Fair removes it - and removes the other things on the books for removal next year - then the park will really suck.

If it was the train that had the problem I don't see SOB open for the rest of the year or next year. The problem area was right before the loop or is the track in that area bad?

Last year Coney Island's Cyclone stopped dead at the bottom of the first drop, and didn't make it back to the station. If the SOB train made it back, then it must not have been a catastropic failure. If it lost a huge amount of speed it would have valleyed.

LOL!!! look at this!

"“I love it,†he said of the coaster, which is billed as the tallest and fastest wooden coaster. “It’s one of the few roller coasters that I can ride and still get scared.â€Â

Pipoly said that at about the time of the malfunction, his friend who had been near the front of the line for the ride Delirium, was told that there were mechanical problems and the ride was being shot down."

Delirium was being shot down ohmy.gif lol

near the bottom of the story
