CP Hotel's

Recommended Posts

My family and I will be going to CP the first part of August, which hotel should we stay in? We will be there 2 or 3 days. We don't care about price and normally get 2 adjoining rooms (we like the nice places). When we go on vacation the hotel is half the trip! lol... Yep, that’s right; we are one of those families that stay on the property when we go to Disney.

My choice is the hotel breakers. Once you park your car,you will not need to

enter until you leave for home. They have four restaurants in the hotel and room

service. Also have two outdoor pools and one indoor pool. You have access

to the shuttle service for anywhere on property including marina and bay harbour

and famous dave's. I always have a room with lake/pool view. smile.gif

That's easy..then.

Breakers.

End of story, if there's room! smile.gif

Heard it really isn't that nice and it is really old. I was also told the rooms are small. What would be your second choice?

You SAID you wanted to stay on property. If you prefer newer, relatively cramped, and nowhere near as nice, there's Sandcastle Suites. Breakers REALLY is the way to go...but if you simply MUST have new and pay more for less, then Sandcastle Suites is next. . .

It's been my experience that those who criticize Breakers have usually not stayed there, and are merely parroting what others, who also have not stayed there, have told them.

This is interesting... I would trust your judgment compared to what others say about the hotel. Any other thoughts? Is it true they don't have elevators?

It's true there are not elevators...at least I don't remember any. And if you not in to historical, you might well be better off somewhere else....The ONE place I would ABSOLUTELY avoid is Breakers Express. There are better values elsewhere for the prices that Cedar Fair gets, and the bennies of staying at Breakers Express are tiny indeed. . .

The newer section of Breakers is Breakers East....You might also find this chart helpful:

Hotel Breakers has a good combination of old and new. Two newer sections, Breakers East (4 stories), and Breakers Tower (10 stories), have a variety of larger rooms, lots of amenities, and elevators.

The main original section, while older and smaller, can be cheaper. It's got some charm, but no elevators.

Obviously being the closest accomodations to any park entrance, and I think you even get your parking fee reimbursed, it's something to consider, if you're willing to spend extra for the convenience.

Sandcastle is all-suite, and has a beautiful view out onto the lake, but it's a bit of a hike to the gate, though they offer a shuttle,

My choice, most often, has been Breakers Express. It doesn't have a lot of amenities, but it's newer, very clean, has elevators, and pricing is comparable to the other Sandusky motels, some of which can be a gamble. It's the closest off-point hotel, yet being owned by Cedar Point, guests get the opporunity to ride early.

True, Breakers Express does not offer a shuttle to Cedar Point. Shuttles, however, may not be your best option, and you may have to wait a long time to get one to and from your hotel, for the ones that offer it. Not to mention the limited capacity at opening and closing times. Be a man and pay the $9, and come and go when you're ready.

I have stayed at every CP resort. Heres how they break down of the hotels from farthest to closest to the park.

CastawayBay is very nice, rooms are of standard hotel quality but you also get the great indoor waterpark. Honestly it is not as nice as the GreatWolf, but if you want to stay close to CP and have the indoor waterpark aspect than it is a good way to go.

Breakers Express, has nice accomadations, well kept property and the rooms are of decent size. Close to the park, but still need to drive to get there.

SandCastle Suites, I liken this hotel as the Breakers Express located on the lake and you pay for it too. Honestly it is nice for the closeness to the park, but expensive for what you get.

Breakers, absolutely a classic resort hotel. The grand lobby is amazing, makes you feel transported back in time. The orginal sections rooms are small, but offer nice views of the lake, a suite in the tower is my choice of accomadations when going to CP. Get a room with a view of the lake and beach and you will not be sorry. You get the charm and beauty of a grand lake resort with the ammenities of modern hotel, not to mention you can walk to TTD in 5 minutes from the hotel.

So my sugesstion is Breakers and stay in the tower. Also dont be affraid to stay in the orginal Breakers section on one of the upper floors. Use the bellhop service and you will never be concerned about the lack of elevators. If you cannot get the tower I strongly reccomend any room with a view of the beach/lake. You may trick yourself and think you are at the ocean. Also book as soon as possible because they sell out quickly, best suggestion is call CP instead of booking online.
