Thrillsareparamount
Is it safe to classify Maverick as a cross between Storm Runner and Millenium Force!?
KIBeast
I really don't see much similarities to either MF or SR. You have a different launch, low to the ground, inversions, theming, 95 degree drop and so on. It's really a one of a kind. If you are trying to describe it to someone else, have them check it out at the Cedar Point web site. You've got animations, pics, interviews, and a construction diary to boot. TheKlockster
Actually I would consider it more of a souped up Intamin version of the Gerstlauer Eurofighter - similar to what Dollywood is getting for 2007.
RailRider
^ ^ ^ I might even say it is a Eurofighter crossed between IJ:ST, but on Steroids, but it is colosest to the Eurofighter. Intamin builds higher quality coasters than Gerstlauer. Im not knocking Gerstlauer, but I think Intamin is one of the premier builders out there. Reclaimer
I love Intamin. They push the limits. They aren't afraid to be innovative. Yeah, B&Ms are great. They know what they do well and stick with it...Intamin pushes the limit and, unfortunately, suffers some extensive downtime quite often. I'm a person that is willing to sacrifice for some downtime if I'm able to get a unique experience. (Not saying B&Ms or any others are bad...just saying, I like Intamin's thinking)
UncleHenry
Yeah, I'd say its a mix between Storm Runner and IJST.
bsktgrvy
That looks like a great roller coaster that will satisfy thrill seekers and even let some that are not up to riding the 300-400 foot tall coasters (like me) possibly be able to enjoy this one. Why can't KI get something like this? Hopefully they can.
KIBeast
They already have one like it...Italian Job: Stunt Track. The only real difference is the inversions.
bsktgrvy
They already have one like it...Italian Job: Stunt Track. The only real difference is the inversions. I watched the animated video of Maverick - it looks nothing like IJST. The inversions are also quite a difference.
KIBeast
It is similar in that it launches and is not really tall or really fast and there is theming.
The Interpreter
It is similar in that it launches and is not really tall or really fast and there is theming. Uh, no. Italian Job REPORTEDLY goes 40 miles per hour at top speed. Maverick is to go 70. More than 70 percent faster.... Faster than Beast. Faster than Vortex. Faster than Racer. Faster than Flight of Fear. Maverick is to be 105 feet tall. Italian Job isn't even half that. Try 45 feet. Put another way, Maverick is to be nearly two and half times as tall as Italian Job. Maverick is no Italian Job. And I haven't even mentioned that Maverick is very unlikely to totally change the character of a peaceful, serene section of its park. Nor did it supposedly require the removal of a beloved flat ride in order to be constructed. A landing, yes....a beloved flat? No.
UncleHenry
Maverick IS Italian Job... Just on steroids.
The Interpreter
Next you will tell me Top Thrill Dragster is Roller Skater at Kentucky Kingdom, after it took its vitamins and grew up.
UncleHenry
Next you will tell me Top Thrill Dragster is Roller Skater at Kentucky Kingdom, after it took its vitamins and grew up. Seriously, you have the intelligence of a goat. IJST: Themed coaster with multiple launch sections with 12 person trains Maverick: Themed coaster with multiple launch sections with 12 person trains... that goes faster and higher. The Interpreter
Multiple launch sections at Paramount's Kings Dominion, yes. At PKI? Yeah, there's speakers in the cars, too. By the way, both the Empire State Building and a tool shed at PKI are buildings, too. And don't be dissin' goats. You don't really want PETA botherin' ya! Browntggrr
Anyone can debate the similarities/ differances between IJ & Maverick. It just depends on one person's opinion. I consider IJ to be a themed coaster because the themeing is a major part of the ride. Without the themeing, it really would be a rather boring coaster. Maverick is a coaster that has theming, but the themeing is not a major part of the ride. Even in CP's Faq of the ride it mentions that there definition of themeing for this ride is the different colors of the trains, the tunnel, and the inversions. Without the themeing, it still looks to be a good coaster (we will see come May).
TheKlockster
I think the only thing in common between Maverick and IJST are the trains, and the fact both are marketed toward families. Maverick will be a very intense high thrill ride.
KIBeast
I agree with what you said Tggr. Interpreter, the whole topic was about what does Maverick compare to and I said Italian Job more so than Millennium Force or Storm Runner. So, while you can say that Maverick is no Italian Job, Maverick is a lot closer to IJ than MF or SR.
TheKlockster
Another big difference. Italian Job hypes you up cause it looks cool - but then fails to deliver. Maverick - even if it wasn't themed - would still be a great ride.
CoasterXtreme
Just wanted to give everyone an update on Maverick, They drained the swan pond today and started to raise steal over there. It will not be long before they are done with the steal and then they can work on the lims.
