December 9, 200619 yr Every year we get closer. Inch by inch, coasters grow taller, and we dream of the day that it will come. So, when do you think the 500ft. coaster is going to be built? Who do you think is going to build it? What kind of coaster will it be? Finaly, where will it be?
December 9, 200619 yr In all honesty, I dont see it coming for a number of years. Im thinking 2009 or 2010, and I have a strong feeling it WON'T be at Cedar Point.
December 9, 200619 yr Well, my guess is never. I mean really, which park is going to pay the huge bucks for this type of ride? I mean, just look at all the mechanical issues that the two 400 foot coasters have had. And do those parks think that the $20+ million price tag was worth it? I doubt it. These monster rides simply don`t bring in record breaking revenue figures. I mean, why spend $25 million on a ride, when you can spend $10 on a 150 tall coaster and bring in the exact same revenue and attendance figures. To build that 500 foot coaster is just not economical for parks that expect to see a return on their investment.
December 9, 200619 yr I don't think the answer is as soon as 2009 or 2010, and yet I also don't think the answer is never. It wouldn't surprise me too much if it's not in North America. Then again, as has been said, predictions are hard, especially when they are about the future.
December 11, 200619 yr I think some of this depends on the technology used. Yeah, the two four hundred footers have their problems, most of which have to do with the propulsion. Now, if you were to use an elevator cable lift, like Millennium Force, that could be more reliable and possibly more feasible as in can it be done. Now, the cost for such a ride with that kind of lift, may not be very cost effective at this point in time. I also believe, in fact, that Cedar Point at this point is the only likely candidate. The only other huge chain is Six Flags, and they are not building any more Titanic sized rides. I also think that 550 or 600 feet would be the next mark as the current record is 456ft and 500 would only beat the record by a mere 35 feet. CP tends to break records nearly 100 ft. taller than its' predecessor.
