January 23, 200719 yr I was searching YouTube today and I found this really neat prototype video of an Arrow/Huss supended coaster which is later to be known as 'The Bat' at Kings Island. It lived a short life, but for those of us who rode it, it'll always be an amazing memory! Arrow/Huss Suspended Coaster Promo Video
January 23, 200719 yr Thats a pretty sweet looking video! I love the little model they made. I cant believe how far that thing swings away from the track! No wonder the shocks would go out so often.
January 23, 200719 yr What are you talking about? It looked like a perfectly designed Arrow inversion!
January 23, 200719 yr Yea its on a vhs tape put out by rhino home video called America Screams. It was produced in 1990 (though the footage was from the 70's). I bought the tape from blockbuster probably 7 or 8 years ago. It talks a lot about the history of roller coasters and has some great footage of the screamin demon and the king kobra at dominion. http://www.amazon.com/America-Screams-Vari...s/dp/6301687639 This is a copy of the vhs for sale on amazon. This is where that prototype video comes from. It has the mini-model, the full scale model, as well as a long interview with ARROW about the design of the suspended coaster. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_Screams ^if you've got the video, help out^
January 24, 200719 yr I'm guessing that they were testing two different types of track on the full scale model? One looked like if you turned an Intamin upsidedown
January 24, 200719 yr The full size coaster in the video was not The Bat. I am not sure if it had a name or not. I forget which site had a nice video that was handed out to the media when The Bat opened. In the video you can see the cars do swing very far out from the track.
January 24, 200719 yr ^I diddnt mean to imply on the youtube site that it was the pat...hence why Its called "Arrow Prototype".
January 24, 200719 yr Here is actual video of The Bat as featured at CoasterFanatics.Com. You will need a user name and password to log in to view. It is free.
January 25, 200719 yr The full-size ride on the first video is just a back-lot prototype, built behind the arrow headquarters at the time. (similar to Thrust Air 2000 at S&S)
January 25, 200719 yr In my attic somewhere my dad has a VHS tape that was the promo for Astroworlds "XLR-8" and it features many clips of The Bat. He was a former manager of astroworld, I'll try to dig it up soon.
January 25, 200719 yr The Video that's over at Coaster fanatic is from my personal collection. I have some other stuff over there, like some 80's comercials from various parks, CP, SF and others.
January 25, 200719 yr Hmmm and you wonder why the Arrow Suspendeds never went upside down? That corkscrew looked nasty.
February 11, 200818 yr Yea its on a vhs tape put out by rhino home video called America Screams. It was produced in 1990 (though the footage was from the 70's).
