Seat Belts on Vortex?

Featured Replies

I just read over at Carowindsconnection that they added seat belts to Carolina Cyclone, is Vortex going to have seat belts too?

Well, I hope that they don`t add seat belts to The Vortex, as it would hinder the load and unload process and negatively impact the capacity. But, if they added seatbelts to Cyclone, it makes you wonder.

It wouldnt matter to me if they add them or not unless it slows down the loading process drastically. I think parks are starting to do it now as a required safety feature because they are starting to have more and mroe malfunctions of the harnesses.

I have heard the ones on Corkscrew at CP are horrid, that it slows down the loading/unloading of the ride, to the fact that they stack trains. Do all of the other non Paramount Cedar Fair parks besides Corkscrew have seat belts?

I know that many rides at the various former Paramount Parks are getting seatbelts this year under CF requirements.

Can you give us more information about that? What other rides at KI could CF add seat belts too? Most of the coasters minus a few already have them.

Does Gemini have seat belts? I don't remember. Oh wait they are like they are on Magnum correct?

Does Gemini have seat belts? I know that the height requirement on Adeventure Express (as well as on White Water Canyon) is going up to bring it in line with height requirements at other Cedar Fair parks.

Gosh, shows you how long its been since I`ve been to Cedar Point! I was last there in 2004, but am planning on going back at some point this year. Are they like the type that can be found on The Racer/ Tornado at Stricker`s Grove?

Gemini and Cedar Creek are the same style. They use one belt for the whole seat, where as, Magnum, each rider has his own belt. None of them are retrackedable.

If Vortex does get seat belts, can anyone tell me how'll they'll be? Do the ones on Corkscrew make any difference as far restrictions of the ride or rider? I'm a bigger guy, I can ride every ride at KI, don't have any problems with Face/Off, Delirium, or Tomb Raider as far as the belts. I'm just wondering what these new seat belts may mean to me on Vortex if we are truly getting them?

They look pretty long, where do they buckle? It doesn't look like I'd have any issues. I'm not huge or anything, I can ride in the normal B&M seats.

I'm sorry but this seatbelt thing is going to far. Do you remember when the seat belts actually did something for you on a coaster. sorry I am old school.

I hope they do add belts to The Vortex. I also hope they do the same to Top Gun. I enjoy both rides but rarely ride them because they don't have seats belts like Face/Off, Tomb Raider, Delerium, and Drop Zone. I have had several rides while riding Vortex that my harness moved up a couple of clicks. Scared me to death.

I do agree of the harness to seat belt but not the lap belt.

I agree completely, a lap belt would be too much. First off, it probably would keep more people from riding it and Lap belts would be very hard to check on Vortex. The harness belt wouldn't be a hated addition in my opinion.

Maybe it's just me, but I think that Cedar Point as a whole went way over the top with seatbelts. I definitely think they are good to have on Millennium Force and Dragster, but Gemini, Corkscrew, and Cedar Creek Mine Ride just don't seem to need them. I guess it's a liability issue so they are good to have, but I would hate to see Vortex enter it's 20th season with the addition of seatbelts.

actually I would like to see a restraint like FOF. The shoulder harness is bad for smaller people because it hurts there head.

Except for the seatbelts on Flight of Fear. Those are what cause some of the slow load times for the trains on Flight of Fear, simply because the guests do not know where to buckle the belts to.

Yes, the addition of the seatbelts comes down to liabilities the park protecting themselves from lawsuits. As a result, the some restraints become redundant, but it ultimately adds to the safety of the rides. Look at the Scrambler at Kings Island. It had seat belts added about six or so years ago, after an incident at another park involving a Scrambler. But yet at some parks, like at Coney Island and Stricker`s Grove, the Scramblers do not have seat belts. A big player in the issue of what rides get seat belts added is likely the parks insurance company, who would likely have to shell out money in a lawsuit.

Iron Dragon still doesn't have seat belts correct? But just like it was silly to add them to Corkscrew it's silly to add them to Vortex. I bet Adventure Express will get lap belts. As long as it don't make the ride more restricting I guess it will be okay.

You should be able to figure out how to lock the belt. It's not rocket science

The problem with FoF is, people don't relize you have to pull the bar down first, and lock the belt into the side of the bar. I see alot of people trying to find the other end of the belt on the other side of the seat.

true but it's not that hard + I think it would make the ride alot better. my wife is 5ft 5 and hurts her head.

Apparently logic is though.

Vortex is one of the smoothest Arrow coasters out there, I think its aged pretty darn well. I have never thought Vortex was rough. Now FoF pre lap bars, that's a different story.

The seatbelt on Corkscrew isn't that bad. As some of you know I'm a pretty big guy and I had plenty of room with it. Having worked on Vortex, I think the seatbelts would be a good idea. It would ensure that the bar is down to a predetermined position, and prevent some people from leaning way forward to get a really loose bar. Also some really skinny people can actually climb out through the middle of the bar, and the belt might keep the restraint tight enough to make that impossible.
