italianchef
Tonight I visited Kings Island with my family. The highlights were The forwards Racer, Adventure Express, Lazy Town Sportcopters, and Nick-o-round. We tried to eat Wings Buffet, but it was closed. So I dropped $31 for fried chicke, fries, and soda at Chick-a-filet. Have a great weekend! Italian Chef
The Interpreter
Could you be a bit more specific about what you got for that $31? How many sodas? How much chicken? How many orders of fries? --The Interpreter, who has been STUNNED at Cedar Fair's food prices this year...
italianchef
We ordered one kid's meal for Toddler Chef, a chicken nugget basket with soda for Mrs. Chef, and a chicken sandwich basket and soda for me. $31!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Interpreter
Yup. I still think these outrageously high food prices are going to drive people out of the park to eat...either to their coolers/cars or to nearby establishments, particularly those just one exit south on I-71. Fewer sales at higher profit may mean less net profit. I suppose they will find out soon enough. I, for one, have better options than paying well over $10 for a half way reasonable meal at Skyline in the park. I suspect many others will think the same. And at least a few will be so upset that in the future they will go other places than to the park. And the park will get NO per caps from them. There is such a thing as too much. And I, for one, think the food prices are now there. Cedar Fair also needs to remember many people are already upset enough over the gasoline prices...when confronted with these food prices, many will remember in the future...and go elsewhere--not just to eat while they are visiting the park...but not visit the park AT ALL. They may well be killing the goose that has in the past laid them so many golden eggs.
italianchef
You are correct. Next time we will eat elsewhere in the park. The food prices don't bother me too much - but the drink prices are way too high. They really should go down.
The Interpreter
You will eat elsewhere IN the park or elsewhere THAN the park? I am not sure what you meant!
deidre1976
I am a fan of Big Boy. Better food, cheaper prices! Eat before or after your park visit!
Delirium33
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the catch at Chick-fil-A is that you have to get a "basket" with your nuggets, meaning that whether you want them or not, you are paying for fries. That's why Chick-fil-A's prices in the park can be even more outrageous than some of the other restaurants.
italianchef
You can ONLY get the basket at Chick-a-filet - and it doesn't include soda. Next time I eat at Kings Island, I will go elsewhere. I REALLY wanted to eat at the Wings buffet - but it was closed!
Guest kwindshawne
My answer-cooler in the lot.... Or, one block down and every restaurant you can think of ..... the quality is better too
Erosarrow05
what you are all so casually forgetting is: the walk from wherever you are in the park to your car, then leaving the park to find a place to eat, going in ordering your food and waiting for it to be prepared, eating, going back to the park and finding a parking space which will naturally be farther than your previous one... All in all the time it takes to leave and come back to save a few bucks probably isnt worth it. You pay for the convienience to eat in the park and clearly people pay to not have to leave... A park or coaster ENTHUSIAST (and anyone who posts here almost certainly qualifies) may be willing to pay to not leave the park. So will most families. The question is how much. When it is too much, and I suspect it now is, two things happen: * Those who adore the park will keep coming, but spend less inside and either eat before coming and again after leaving the park...staying LESS time (and spending less money). When they get hungry, they leave, and DO NOT COME BACK THAT DAY. Still others will bring a cooler. Some of them, too, will decide to go home while they are out at the car. (Honey, the place is crowded, I'm hot, Junior is being testy, let's go home and take a dip in the pool, etc.) * Those who see the park as ONE choice among many options of what to do will no longer come as often, or perhaps not at all. It is far better to make a 20 percent profit on many, many, many guests' meals than to make a 70 percent profit on a relative few guests' meals. This doesn't even take into account fixed costs that must be first recovered. You also forget that in many cases, one can walk to the car, eat, and go back in more quickly than waiting in the interminably slow lines at many of the food stands, especially at peak times. And the food in one's cooler or that nice little restaurant just down the road may, in many cases, be far better than the stuff they sell inside the park, both in quality and in wholesomeness. It certainly will lower priced. I am a person who has lost a great deal of weight. There really aren't very many healthy choices for food in the park for people on special diets. Quite frankly, most of what the park sells as food qualifies as junk food. Then again, that is what MOST people seem to want.
Banshee
We always pay the extra 5.00 for premier parking and pack a cooler. With three kids the cost of food would be too much to handle. Parking in the premier parking lot makes it easy to bring the kids out, eat, and then get back to the aprk.
