  1. Player, the park is tentatively scheduled to close at 8PM both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Although I have a feeling that tomorrow (Saturday) they may end up closing at either 5 or 6 due to lack of crowds and the cold weather. The same thing happened on the passholder preview day last year, but last year they only had Sunday as a pass holder preview day.
  2. PKI hasn`t had a Nickelodeon show for a couple years now. The past couple of years, all they have used the Nickelodeon Theater was for large meet and greets with the characters.
  3. Provided they do not close early, which they probably will due to lack of crowds, and some rides unable to operate because of the cold temperatures.
  4. Well, Paramount Parks still operates two other Togo standups, so the KC trains might be salvaged for spare parts for those rides, since maintenance issues were reportedly one of its downfalls.
  5. I miss the Kings Island Clown Band. Good times!
  6. Yes but the theme for The Vortex is not know to the public. Other than the logos on the park map and on ride photos, they do not use the robotic arm, or set up the story of the robot for the public while in line. PKI uses the same type of storyline of stunt doubles on Drop Zone.
  7. Yes, the park had posted signs on the Flight Commande pad at the end of `96 saying something to the tune of "New Thrills dropping in next season." But they opted for a water park expansion in 1997 instead of a second generation Intamin Free Fall. Then in 1999 they installed a third generation Intamin Gyro Drop. IMO, it our current Drop Zone is better than the second generation, although it would have been nice to have a ride occupy the Flight Commander spot. Maybe next season we will get a flat ride for that spot along with the rumored Nick expansion.
  8. I don`t think that would be awesome. It wouldn`t fit in with PKI. And besides why spend close to $30 million on a ride like that when they could buy a HUSS giant ride, and an expansion for Nick Central? Which would provide a greater Return on investment, be more popular with a larger demographic and provide greater capacity to the park?
  9. It depends how wet I want to get. If I want to get mildly wet, then it is WTRA. If I want to get moderatly wet, I go for Congo Falls. If I want to get drenched, I go for WWC. Although, WWC, is the longest and perhaps most fun of the three, although not fun afterwards on those cool days!
  10. Well for me, I am most looking forward to IJST, simply because PKI will be the only park I get to visit this year, with the possible exception of Holiday World. I definantly think IJST will be a fun ride, and that the gp, will really enjoy the ride (which will undoubtedly have huge lines). The difference in height and speed between TTD and Kingda Ka will be insignificant, IMO, becuase of how high their speeds and heights are already.
  11. Well there is the basketball game on the side by The Racer. Then there is the CyberSez virtual reality game, which is really fun to watch the people playing that game, because they look so silly screaming, stomping and wave their hands in midair. It would have been nice had they replaced Skylab with another flatride, although the same can be argued for the old Flight Commander location.
  12. BuddaH1994, I know there are several areas around The Vortex with remnants of The Bat. They didn`t remove the footers, they just cut the supports off, and hence why there are some areas of rusted out support left. However, I doubt that the park still has any Bat track lying around in the park somewhere still.
  13. Kings Dominion, at least when I visited KD back in 2000, had signs showing pictures with a brief description of what rides used to occupy various plots of land.
  14. Bavarian Beetle was sent to Camden park, where is was just recently scrapped. Yes, Cedar Point does have some what of a museum, but their history is also a lot longer than KI`s. I`m sure PKI does have a lot of artifacts to past rides. There used to be a wheel carriage leftover from The Bat visble from Vortex`s platform until a couple years ago. The only part of The Bat that was reused on The Vortex were some of the access stairs for the ride.
  15. Witht the exeception of King Cobra, I don`t think the park has any pieces of track remaining from The Bavarian Beetle, The Bat or the Screamin Deamon. Yes, I think that idea would be cool, but I really do not see the park doing anythin like that anytime soon.
  16. Lets not forget that both Wings and Festhause also offer AIR CONDITIONED spots to eat food which is really nice in the hot Cincinnati heat and humidty!
  17. While most people have been concerned with IJST, I have found out that Cincinnati`s Coney Island is also adding a new attraction this season. Coney is adding the Scream Machine, a 50 foot tall tower, in which riders are lifted up slowly and then dropped. The ride will be located in Moonlite Square, by Moonllite Gardens. Ride Details. That sounds like a wonderful addition to Coney`s ride lineup. Unfortunatly, since I won`t be working there this summer (with cooping in the spring and fall, I will be in class all summer), so I won`t get to run the new ride.
  18. Actuall y the joker8388, OTSR stands for Over The Shoulder Restraints, not over the head restraints. Both refer to the same type of restraint though.
  19. At Coney, we were strictly forbidden from riding any of the rides during our shift. The obvious exception to that is the slide, where when there is a line up at the top, the only way down is to slide down. (Although a couple times when I opened the Pythoon, the mechanics were finishing up their inspections and told us to hop in and take a spin!) But if a ride broke down and you were stuck on it for twenty minutes, it would be hard to get back to your work location to resume working at your scheduled time.
  20. I`ll be there on Saturday morning to get my souvenir cup (that is a good deal). It should be noted that Friday evening is for the winners of radio station give aways, and not season passes.
  21. Yeah, it was better when you could see one page with all of the perks. Instead of just a general discription. Also, in the season pass mailer, it says to find out all the details about perks by logging onto www.pki.com/seasonpass. But when you do that, it takes you to a non existant portion of the site. Maybe they will give away gold pass booklets again this year detailing all the perks.
  22. I just wish like last year, that there would be one page on their site that spells out all the perks, their date and times, like there has been in years past.
  23. Yeah, the reason why I asked, was because I have yet to recieve the mailer, and it does not mention the refills for $.99 on the flash movie on PKI.com. I believe you, but I woould like to see it for myself. That is one awesome perk though!
  24. Yes, I never understood quite why The Racer and Beast were different, other than The Beast having a lot more strong lateral forces. The thing I don`t get is if the rides (like The Beastie) have operated safely for years with the current height restriction then why change it? Safety comes first, afterall, the theme park industry prides itself on its safety record, and parks usually self police themselves to prevent an injury that would ruin their reputation as a safe park.
  25. Why change the height on The Racer? If you remember, Adventure Express and Racer used to have a height requirement of 42" before they bumped it up to 44" around 2000 or so. I`m sure the changes are results of their insurance company/lawyers to try and prevent lawsuits. Even at Coney last season, we had a change on our Ferris Wheel. It used to be under 48" and the rider needs an adult. Well, last season they changed it so that under 36" could not ride and between 36"-48"needed an adult. Needless to say we got a lot of complaints for that change. Although that change, I believe, was instituted by the state of Ohio, and not Coney.
