  1. I think I heard that losing the campground is the big issue here. Many visitors to PKI every year go camping, and if they take out the campground for Great Wolf, they might lose a lot of peeps. I'd guess the delay is because PKI wants to maintain a campground, possibly relocating the existing facilities east. Another interesting option: the old College Football Hall of Fame building was torn down this year. Galbreath Field is also supposed to come down soon. I wonder who is redevloping this land?
  2. A good combination. Video games, like RCT 3, SimCity 4, and some Game Boy/Game Cube. I may be flying out to Las Vegas to do some thesis research. And ride the several coasters on the Strip. I'll definitely be seeing more movies, especially some DVDs that I rent, buy and already own. And some first runs. There's also a new IMAX up the street. And some school/work. We may not like it, but many of us have to do it.
  3. Yes, Geauga Lake will build the new Wildwater Kingdom where the Sea World/Wildlife side once was. It will be built in two phases: Phase One, moving the Hurricane Mountain slides, add a tornado slide like PKI's Tasmanian Typhoon, an "action river" and a new family/kids play area. This will be ready for May '05. The existing wave pool will remain open. Phase Two: A new wave pool, a swim-up adult bar, assortment of body and tube slides, and more, will open for 2006. Not only will admission to Wildwater Kingdom be included with Geauga Lake admission, the single-day gate price will be brought down by $10 to $25. Sounds like a combination that can bring the people back who were turned off by the higher prices and poor operation under Six Flags. A new group picnic pavilion area should also bring back the company picnics that were once the bread-and-butter of Geauga Lake.
  4. "I'm going home and putting a gun in my mouth. Good day." - Will Ferrell as Alex Trebek, SNL Celebrity Jeopardy!
  5. Now that Paramount has decided to move Flying Eagles from Kings Island to Carowinds, how often will you visit the park with the void?
  6. Odd timing that I haven't renewed my season pass yet. Then again, since PKI is my home park, I probably will eventually. I think that what is in question, though, is how often I will visit next year. Disappointing how they can't just move this popular ride to another vacant location.
  7. I went first weekend, it was okay. My favorite part was the renovation to the theater, with the real theater seats, the old bench pews just weren't very good.
  8. Believe it or not, bought it at the park in the morning. Just $5 for a middle of the theater seat. An excellent show, plus a great place to view the fireworks during the intermission! Probably one of the best entertainment values PKI has put on.
  9. I have to go with Bolliger & Mabillard. Why? Variety of styles, higher capacity, better restraints (especially the hypers), and smoothness. If PKI had a B&M, it would probably be my hands-down #1 park.
  10. I could probably make a master plan/thesis out of this topic, but I'll try to get to the point. I would add a few B&M coasters: a hyper, a floorless, and a third between invert, standup, dive, or flying. Probably one of them named King Cobra. More money into guest comfort and infrastructure. I know how PKI promotes itself as Orlando/Hollywood of the midwest, but those parks are far ahead when it comes to appearance and cleanliness. More, larger, cleaner restrooms. Ditch the asphalt, replace concrete and with the surfaces that Bush Gardens Williamsburg has. Better directional signage, high quality sound systems, designated smoking areas. Clean up the parking lot, add trees/berms at row ends. No doubt I would like to see more sit-down service restaurants - a start would be renovating International Restaurant into something more dressed down, i.e. Friday's or some sports ba & grille. A buffet like at CP would also be nice. Re-theme Festhaus to something other than the Coke & Movies Q-TV LaRosa's cafeteria. Ease the ride operations. Place greeters at the entrances. Add recorded spiels, instructional signs in stations. I'd include parking with the admission price, that is still charge $40-$45, but make parking for free. Also, lower prices on food and drinks.
  11. Employee cafeteria; a place where, as a guest, you should be fortunate that you are not allowed to eat at. Even if it is cheaper than anywhere else in the park.
  12. I'm at CoastersNSich... What does "Sich" mean, you ask? Well, it's like "such" but funnier.
  13. Do you mean yesterday, when Cedar Fair bought Six Flags Worlds of Adven... Ohh, you mean the March Announcement about PKI? That I don't know. March is less than half over... But I guess it'll be something big.
  14. I'd have to disagree with the Chef on a few things. Just because the big theming names will no longer be at Geauga Lake does not mean that the quality will diminish from the park. It's great that the park is changing hands. Heck, they've promoted an assistant from CP to be the GM at GL. Not to mention doing a better job at running stuff, too. And better customer service so they can have more of something that PKI and CP rely on: repeat customers. I also think that some of the coasters at Geauga Lake are better than some of PKI's. The Big Dipper, especially in the front, has much more air than any wood at KI. Also, they have a great floorless, and I consider myself a big B&M fan. The Impulse is also exciting and smooth. Currently KI has no B&M (or Intamin) coasters. Overall, I think KI's wood is much better, however. Top Gun's a great suspended that does better for me than that hang & bang on the lake. AE's a great family coaster too. And it's no question why our kids area got the Golden Ticket Award 3 years in a row!
  15. Now for my thoughts on this, definitely shocked. The first time I went to WOA, in 2002, it left a bad taste in my mouth. One-train operations, serveral rides (including coasters) shut down, rude staff and rude guests. And bathrooms that really smelled like sh*t. However, I went back twice and much better. More rides open, some running two trains, less guests (especially bad ones) and nicer staff. The Big Dipper had some of the best airtime I ever had, and the Batman Knight Flight was a great floorless and B&M. The wildlife side was also great to see, as well as a decent break from the fast-paced ride side. I really enjoyed the park overall. Even though it had its down sides, the place has rides and stuff that other parks didn't have altogether. I'm kind of bummed that the wild life side may be no longer but definitely looking forward to better staff, coasters running at capacity (like they do at new sister park CP), and the new look.
  16. The press release also states that the park will be renamed Geauga Lake, as it was named from when it opened in 1888 until rebranded as Six Flags Ohio after the 1999 season. There was also a rumor that the Wild Life side, that was originally owned by Anheuser-Busch as Sea World until bought by Six Flags in 2001 and attached with the rides park, will be closed down. I also haven't heard about how season passes will work, ie 1. Will SFWoA passes still be honored at other Six Flags Theme Parks? (ie SF Kentucky Kingdom, SF Great America, Wyandot Lake, etc.) 2. Will SFWoA passes now be honored at other Cedar Fair Parks? (ie Cedar Point, Valleyfair!, Michigan's Adventure, Dorney Park, etc.) but I think we'll find out more from the conference call...
  17. Two big Ohio parks under Cedar Fair? Interesting and shocking, developing... Press Release
  18. In addition for '04, The Paramount Theater is being refurbished, getting new projection systems, a large film screen, and new seats. These new seats will be the same as the individual seats in the movie theaters, and not like the old pews that were there. Also heard that the Eiffel Tower will be getting new elevators.
  19. Kings Dominion has some areas that are similar to Kings Island's: Their International Street is simiar to ours, same Eiffel Tower, but with slightly different fountains and building designs. And no restaurant over the front gate. Candy Apple Grove is like Coney Mall with the rides around the midway, and the landscaping in the middle. Old Virginia has similar rides and theming as Rivertown (wood coaster, White Water Canyon and Log Flume). Old Virgina has the park's Paramount Theater (former Mason Dixon Music Hall) similar in design to our former American Heritage Music Hall. Both parks used to have jungle-themed areas headlined by the Safari Monorail systems. Both monorails were taken out by '94; while KI's area (Wild Animal Habitat/Adventure Village) was rethemed to Paramount Action Zone, KD's is called "Congo" and retains the jungle theme, although Flight of Fear is located there. Also, both parks had Hanna-Barbera lands with junior woodies, KD's was renamed Kidzville in the late 90s, and both parks now have Nick Central, although different rides. A good source of info is the 1977 film Rollercoaster! which was shot at the defunct Ocean View park, PKD, and SFMM. I hope to give y'all a trip report sometime this spring as I hope to get there, SFA, and BGW in April. EDIT: "Someone stole my thunder"
  20. Just got back! Got to do the last morning walkback, the Boomerang Bay tour, and the final rides. All three trains got at least two consecutive rides! Glad to see so many great people. High thanks to the PKI team and Jeff Siebert. 2003 was an excellent season, 2004 is only about 5 months away (6 for Boomerang Bay).
  21. An older, former co-worker of mine remembered when the pond existed. There was also a concession stand in the line which sold beer. Not to mention the very long line. Combine the three, and that pond sometimes doubled as a bathroom...
  22. I'd say it was the best Extreme Rides show they've done. The Delirium part shows that the ride is everything it's hyped up as... A couple of people I know personally, Allen Greene and Todd Bills were shown. Teriffic! Two other rides I've been on, Top Thrill Dragster and Superman: Ultimate Flight (although I rode the one at SF Great America near Chiago, not the one shown at SF Great Adventure in New Jersey), and those are great too. As for the VMA's, I just saw the highlights that remind me why I don't watch that piece of garbage. I heard that Johnny Cash was nominated for 6 awards, but couldn't be there because of hospitalization for stomach problems... I bet the thought of going on the show made him sick! Just my honest opinion here..
  23. On The Beach's official site, they are currently selling 2004 season passes. Right now, I don't think The Beach is changing hands, nor is it going anywhere.
  24. The Beast came out ahead because of the terrain layout, speed and long stretches, and the tunneled double helix. Did I mention night time? Even though it is ridiculously braked and has those darn headreasts, it's unarguably among the top 10 woodies out there. But man, so many ties for second. Son of Beast, Twin Racer, and Vortex are up there.
  25. TTD won me over, but Delirium came in a close second. Delirium just might be my favorite flat period.
