A bit of Gilroy Gardens News
I had a close friend tell me that the "buyer" wants to turn it back into a garden park and get rid of most of the major attractions. What that meant, I do not know. Most of the rides are a really good fit for the park, I can only see a couple that I would change. I do see a price problem though, and if the sale price is a good one, then I can see that getting fixed. Here's to a good future for the gardens.

Rollbacks?
Just to chime in on the TTD and KK issue. The hydraulic motors and fluid are warmed by electric warmers and cooled during use with a heat exchanger (better known as a radiator) to a pre determined temp. The two things that need to be worked in the mornings are wheel bearings and the cable. The cable does not have to be stretched, just warmed up so the individual strands in the cable bend on to the spool. And at speeds of 100+ the wheel bearings do not take long to warm up. The cable is the most important. At first TTD was storing the cable wrapped around the spool, the cable did not like that at all and did not warm up or wear properly. Last, the operator can not ask for less than the absolute minimum to propel the train over the crest, they can ask for more with a dial if they have one particular train that is having a bad wheel day. The minimum and maximum is preset by the engineers, and the operators are told to use the minimum unless a situation arises. A lot of the time when a train does not make it over, it is because the motor did not have enough energy stored to perform the task. That is caused by fast load and dispatch times, and the system did not have an adequate time to charge. This info is based on KK operations, and I am assuming that info I received about TTD is correct, so don't shoot me if I am a little off.

What was your favorite live show at KI in 2008?
I had to say Dora. My daughter knows the person who plays Dora.

What Was Your Favorite Special Event at Kings Island this year?
You should have included "other" because my best was just spending time with my daughter at the park. (That is always a special event in my book) I was out of town for all but I think one event. (Rick Wallenda's Tightrope Walk) If I had to choose, I would have to say the Carmen Electra in Flashback: Totally 80s, because of the reunion that occurred that week end. There is nothing like family and reuniting with those you have not seen in a while, and missing those who you can not reunite with. I think you did this on purpose, but I do not see Diamondbacks announcement up there. That, I think would be the hands down winner. Well good poll any ways. Monroe, who did not want this post to sound negative, but is too lazy to change it at this time.

Dayton Air Show Losing Money
Thought I would put this here instead of starting a new topic. Kent Shockley was at the Dayton Air Show this year, and put on a good show with lots of smoke in his jet truck Shockwave. Well one of his chutes did not open and caused him to run off the side of the runway at the Great New England Air Show in Westover. He is ok, but his toy is damaged. I am sure he will rebuild, after all it is a family buisness. http://www.wwlp.com/global/story.asp?s=896...srvc=developing http://www.shockwavejets.com/shockwave.cfm Found a video, not that great but.....

Dayton Air Show Losing Money
I have one word for this: Doesn't that stink, this show has been going down hill since '03. One thing they could do is get rid of the trade show mentality of the whole thing. Concentrate on bringing the performers closer to the crowds. This past year you could not get a good picture of the F104's because they were behind the F-22's. The show runway seems like it is 3 miles away, and don't get me started on show front space, so much but so little used. The only good part I liked about this years show was all of the static that let you walk and or sit in the planes. (As for the one word part, just pick a word and ignore the rest.)

TOMB RAIDER RETURNING?
I am a fortune teller, and I predict that you are going to read this. (I'm right yes I knew it, man I'm good.) That will be $20 for the reading. Oh and get some thing for the sweaty palms would you?

Diamondback Station/Queue Art?
Is that Jessica Rabbit in the front seat? And this is the only song I would want to listen to in line.

Geauga Lake: What happened to the other rides?
I Don't remember the Carousel on the auction list, but my list was made a week or two before the auction. There were items auctioned off that were not on my list. Some items also sold before the auction. I would imagine that CF would want to relocate that, but to where is yet to be seen. It could go into storage waiting an open spot in a park, that is the most likely situation. I have not seen it on any brokers site yet.

Geauga Lake: What happened to the other rides?
^Kennywood has the Whitches Wheel and some other small rides not sure on what. Most of the flat rides were purchased by ride brokers, and will end up for sale in the near future if they have not been sold already. And as I have suspected, some have already been purchased by parks over seas. (that rhymes with tea in which Interp likes) I would not say that the article was a lie, just lacking information.

Photo TR: Cedar Point August 23
Thanks for making the sentimental Dad comment for me Interp, but I think I can do it my self....... What he said^. Great TR, I have not been able to make it up this year. Maybe while every one is at KI riding Diamondback I will go to CP, new coaster means short lines for others.

Horrible transitions on Arrow Coasters
Roller Coasters can be made out of any thing, even copper.. So a coat hanger is really no big deal.

Geauga Lake: What happened to the other rides?
Not for long if it is not gone already. The property sold early this year for about 3.5 million, and they started to mark the property for demolition. As of April last year, I know for a fact that the Wild Mouse and parts of the Big Dipper were still standing (barely). That was one of my favorite Wild Mouse rides, I think it was because of where Chippewa Lake had it. Oh well, we still have memories.

What is the Worst Ride You Have Ever Ridden?
Last word I think they sold 4, but not from the trade show. (Worst example of a ride, at a trade show, I've seen yet) I know that 2 were sold to traveling carnivals, but I do not know where. There is one in Budapest at Vidampark called the T-Rex. It should be open by now, no 30 second hangs on this one. I have actually ridden one with the same program as T-Rex and I was planning to go in March to compare the two, but fan of Beast is going there today and promised a tr. He mentioned it in his Slovakian mountains thread. I think you need to try one again, but this time not at a trade show. Besides, I like Mickey Rooney........oh that's Ickarooney....sorry (OK so I should pay just a little more attention to what I ride and post about. This one at Vidampark is actually a Mose Rides model. The one that I rode was in England at a trade show. And one worse, I talked to that rep for a good 35 min. and thought she was with Zamperla. I am going to quit typing because this post now makes no sense at all.) http://www.vidampark.hu/keret.htm Go to a page called UJDONSAGOK at the top of the page, and there is a video. It is all in Hungarian with no English pages and I am too lazy to translate right now.

SLOVAKIAN MOUNTAINS AND CAVES
Russia would be tough right now, wanting to leave is understandable. Yes you did hear right that Prague is a great place to visit, very cultural and the markets are a lot of fun. As for Germany? Well I think I have seen enough of it for now, but work must go on. (12 days left until I go back). And the best for last. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go to Paris WITHOUT your wife. A glass of wine in a sidewalk café' is wonderful, but a trip would not be complete without a dinner at Le Jules Verne on the tower. http://www.lejulesverne-paris.com/ Just remember not to look or act like tourists too much, the French are a lot different to tourists than they are to a visitor. Just relax and act like you have been there before and you will have a great time. Last but not least: Did you make it to Vidampark? and how was it?

SLOVAKIAN MOUNTAINS AND CAVES
^My wife would say no, but I am sure I get some sleep some time during the day. My work in the US requires me to work at night, but I travel a lot over seas. (That actually keeps my internal clock from unraveling) Right now I am going back and forth to Germany every two to three weeks for about four days at a time. That will stop here soon and I will be able to stay home for two months, and then a long stay in Germany of six weeks starting the second week of January. Who knows what will happen after that. I have been all over the world, but most of my work has kept me in Europe. Denmark is my favorite, but now I know where to go when I am in the area that you are in. I have never seen the caves, and it looks incredible.

SLOVAKIAN MOUNTAINS AND CAVES
^You did better in Vienna without going to Wiener-Prater, like I said it is like a stationary carnival. The Orchestra is better than any I have been to, and The Boy Choir is also some thing to behold. I was also going to mention Vidampark, but you don't hear too many people clamoring to go to Hungary. You have to ride T-Rex and let me know how it is, and don't forget Hullamvasut, the brakemen are a little on the wild side. Keep up with pictures, you make it look very natural. I like that better than post card, even though yours can be turned into post cards.

SLOVAKIAN MOUNTAINS AND CAVES
I think that the mist added to the pictures, very nice. I have not had a chance to visit that area of Europe very much, it is spectacular. Also if you find yourself with an extra two days, there is a place in Vienna Austria called Wiener-Prater http://www.wiener-prater.at/GeneralInformation.php?LI=1 . It is like a stationary carnival, it is all pay to play but I think it is reasonable. I especially enjoy the trains and the Hochschaubahn http://www.rcdb.com/ig1103.htm . Very nice pics, I am looking forward to more.

Holiday to add something big....
Every one is forgetting a very important fact: Korey is a very talented ENGINEER, and GG does NOT just engineer wooden roller coasters. This could be any thing.
