  1. Delirium was actively being worked on/repaired while I was there yesterday. That's some good news maybe.
  2. Shake Rattle and Roll did eventually open when I was there yesterday. Delirium did not Drop Tower was open all day yesterday at least while I was there. It was pretty much a walk on all three times I rode.
  3. Visited the park yesterday despite the threat of thunderstorms and during ERT waiting for the barrier to drop at 10 I was watching some of the work being done on Delirium. 3 guys were using the crane to place a very large ring gear into place. I don't know if that was all they intended to do that day or if the rain kept them from doing anything else. Never saw them working on it the rest of the day until I had to leave at 5 to head to Indy for a concert.
  4. I grew up on coasters as SFOT was in my backyard (almost). During most of my 20 years in the Navy, I was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Needless to say I visited two world class parks(Busch Gardens Williamsburg and King's Dominion) as often as I could. After I retired from the Navy, I took a job here in Kentucky based on how close it was to King's Island. So I guess King's Island as a whole made me want to visit. Unfortunately, I was unable to visit during the summer I moved here and missed my chance to ride SOB with the loop. After my first visit in '07, every year has been a Gold Pass season.
  5. 10 to 15 minute waits for most rides on a summer holiday, that's awesome. Glad you enjoyed your day.
  6. Sadly, I never got the opportunity to experience Sonny with the loop so I can not make a fair comparison of before and after. I can say that I agree with the decision to keep it closed until the ride experience can be improved. Sonny, as it is presently configured is, IMHO, not worth riding.
  7. WindSeeker was an absolute blast. My daughter and I really loved it. I will highly recommend it to everyone especially at night.
  8. Let me start by saying that thanks to one of my coworkers and his warning about the construction on I71 we made it to the park just in time for ERT. It would have been an arrival time of about 12 had I not taken the recommended route. Thanks Dan. Anyway, we expected ERT on WindSeeker but got Diamondback and Beast instead. No complaints here. We found out later that WindSeeker had some mechanical issues but they were hopeful it could be open later in the day. It was, but more on that in a bit. Diamondback is always a great way to start the day followed by a surprisingly smooth ride on Beast. The off season track work vastly improved the ride experience. We also followed the advice of a well respected poster on these forums and chose the middle seat or non-wheel seat (best advice ever). We continued to use this advice throughout the day on Racer and even Adventure Express with outstanding results. We then started our loop around the park with BLSC. My daughter and I really love this coaster. The addition of the LED lights on the gattling guns and the wall to the right are a step in the right direction toward improving the theming on this neat little coaster. The fire effects were not working, not sure why. Vortex was next with 5-1 being the preferred seat. (one and done on this coaster) Continuing on we hit Zephyr, then Firehawk (surprisingly only had about a 15 minute wait), and FOF (kudos to the park for the minor theming improvements in the saucer). My daughter and I were discussing why they didn't use at least some of the indoor que line swithbacks. It would bring the line in to some air conditioning[the weather was not an issue on this day but will be later in the summer]. It would also improve the que line video[we all know the part I'm refering to]. Red Racer was a blast but we lost to the blue Racer. Adventure Express and then into Action Zone for a quick spin on Delirium, a long walk back to Flight Deck(the new paint looks fantastic(the supports are similar to the color the Navy uses on its ships[haze grey], man that brings back memeories). Drop Tower was not operating because of the high wind but was open later and I convinced my daughter to ride with me. She did not enjoy it as much a I did. Hit Congo Falls for a quick splash and then decided to get some lunch. Stunt Crew Grill was our choice and the food was really not that bad (my bacon cheeseburger was actually hot and not dryed out). A leisurely stroll over to the train for the always relaxing and more importantly food settling train ride after a meal. Then back into the woods for Thunder Canyon, got a little wet but not soaked which is always good. A repeat on Diamondback to dry off then into Planet Snoopy for curiousities sake. We had always looked over Surf Dog as not being a thrill ride. We were mistaken. This ride is actually quite surprising and we will be riding it again on our next visit. Flying Aces was next, again out of curiousity. Not bad but not worth riding again. Woodstock Express was fun despite the small cars and my 6'3" frame. We decided to hit Boo Blasters where my daughter destroyed me almost doubling my score of 700. The fog effect did not seem to be working though and I was kinda bummed about that. It was then time to visit the Eifel Tower and while up there it was windy but not enough to be concerned about. Then we look down and see that WindSeeker is loading people. We get on the open elevator, come down, and then race to the WindSeeker as fast as we can without running. We get in line only to watch two ride cycles and then closed again for high wind. Now, you would think I would be frustrated at this point but I'm not because at least the park is trying to open its newest ride. So we go get another ride on BLSC and this time the fire effect is working. Working our way back up Coney Mall we take a spin on Monster and Scrambler and take out some aggressions on the Bumper Cars. then tried to ride Viking Fury but it was closed. Then I notice that Drop Tower is operating and we decide to ride it. This was by far the longest wait of the day and I like the Van Halen song they are playing but not 7 times in a row. So then we decide to have some dinner in the Festhaus. My daughter wanted pizza and I got some Chinese and we enjoyed the food during the show. American Country I believe it was. Now I must say that I am NOT a fan of country music at all but the 9/11 tribute was actually very moving and brought tears to our eyes. We finish eating and make the trek to the train again for the previously stated reasons. Diamondback is next for the 3peat and then a twilight ride on Beast. We absolutely love Beast in the dark. While waiting in the station we see that WindSeeker is operating and with the lights on as well. So we go straight to WindSeeker after that and get in line as it is past 9:30 now. The line was just at the entrance at this point and not extended out on to the midway. We figure maybe 4 ride cycles until we were on and a possibility of catching the fireworks while in the air. 3 cycles was all it took as it turns out because the group in front of us had 8 people so they only needed two riders to fill the ride. Words cannot describe how amazing a night ride on WindSeeker really is. The lighting package has to be seen in person to be appreciated. The perfect end to a perfect day. Just as we start to descend the fireworks start. It was so surreal looking out and being at the same height as the fireworks. As we exit the ride we are watching the finale of the fireworks show and take a stroll through the area with all the lights for the Snoopy Starlight Spectacular. A day much enjoyed and needed for both of us.
  9. I agree, nothing good will come from this overly aggressive approach. However, on my last visit to the park on Thursday the 23rd of June, the young man that approached my daughter and I was very friendly and politely asked if we would like our picture taken. Since he wasn't aggressive about it we agreed. Had he been aggressive or had I felt threatened in any way I would have refused and kept walking probably straight to guest relations with the young man's name.
  10. I just love HW, such a clean, well run park with a great family atmosphere. Voyage is my personal favorite. Last year when we were there we met Pat Koch as she was walking around the park.
  11. IMHO I think I like the seat assignment because of the continuous movement of the lines, both the main line and the SRL. In the long run it is better for the park to have their lastest and greatest attraction operating at full capacity.
  12. 3 hours for Titan at SFOT on its opening day. I took my son so he could experience the fun of an opening day.
  13. blue supports with the silver track would best support the "Flight Deck" theme. Blue representing the sky or sea; Silver representing the the jet or aircraft carrier
  14. Shockwave at Six Flags Over Texas was my first looping coaster, Big Bend at the same park was my first large coaster. I have been taking every opportunity to ride coasters since that awesome day
  15. Drop Tower with Delirium a very close second. I have not yet found a ride that gets my blood flowing like Drop Towers
  16. Vortex needs to be removed IMHO. Too jerky. That would free up some room.
  17. I did forget to mention intense. BUT still, both coasters are smooth and well rounded. By that I mean that they both have a good combination of elements. Massive drop into a tunnel. A bunny hop that easily gives 4-5 seconds of airtime, the helices, and the twisted section with the overbanked turns and multiple head chopper effects. A well rounded coaster.
  18. Titan at SFOT is just like Goliath but with an additional helix. Both are fast. smooth and extremely fun coasters.
  19. true, but having ridden Volcano as much as i have i wouldn't change it or move it
  20. Alpengiest from BGE since KD is lacking a good B&M Inverted coaster
  21. I have seen this commercial and i believe that coaster to be Hypersonic XLC from King's Dominion. White track with a banked curve and short blue train.
  22. As a new member I felt I should make my first post a trip report. Me and my two teens got to the park at around 0930 and had no problem getting a very decent parking spot close to the entrance. Passed thru the metal detectors(I for one am glad they are there). I also liked the fact that there was a sign out front giving info on what rides were closed that day: (Tomb Raider). Turns out that was the only ride that was closed that day. When the barricades were dropped we went to Delirium first( I was really looking forward to riding it) my new favorite flat ride, very, very enjoyable. then Face/Off, Top Gun, and SOB. OK here is where I am going to say that I found SOB rough and BORING. I, unfortunately, never got to ride it while the loop was still a part of the ride so i have no basis for comparison. Adventure Express was a neat little coaster. Racer, while good for some air time, was a little painful on my lower back. FOF always a huge hit no matter how long the line. I like the new video system. At this point we stopped for some lunch at Chic-Filet. Very Good. We then hit the water rides and got soaked on White Water Canyon. Had to ride the train just for fun. Then it was time for Beast. I was expecting a great ride but got so much more. As usual the father outdoes the son. One rough spot entering the final helix but overall a very exciting ride. Now it was time for Vortex. I was also looking forward to this coaster, but was extremely disappointed. The inversions were fine but the transitions between them were very painful especially the sharp turn into the brakerun before the corkscrews, I will never ride Vortex again. We then hit IJ:ST and were pleasantly surprised. We then had some dinner at Festhaus. My kids had pizza and said it was good. I had a bacon cheeseburger that was not so good. We also shared some mozzerella sticks that were ice cold. So Festhaus: Air Conditioning was good, food not so good. Repeat rides on Delirium, Top Gun, Adventure Express, and a ride on Drop Zone. Repeat ride on FOF. A 45 min wait for Firehawk that was well worth it. We all enjoyed our first flying coaster experience. The loop was very intense. Firehawk was a very good addition to the park IMHO. Had to ride Beast once again. Just had to. Overall a good day at KI but just not great. Thanks
