  1. Where do people keep coming up with this nonsense about CP & SFMM being in competition with each other when they're nowhere near being in the same market? First off SFMM has been removing a couple of coasters lately, second Discovery channel no longer produces memorial day coaster shows(they havn't done a new one since 2003) so there's no longer a way for either park to mass market their "product line" any longer as in years past. Now if CP is removing a coaster they've probably got a good reason for doing so,my guess would be due to lack of space for expansion & they're in need of replacing an outdated ride for a new one,but I can assure you that it has nothing to do whatsoever with SFMM's coaster count.
  2. I agree with Shaggy on this one. There are other similar rides nationwide that Intamin can examine in search of ways to prevent accidents such as this from happening in the future but the ride in question has developed a stained reputation & due to the local publicity most people in the park's geographic market won't set foot on it in light of what happened. Take the two face mishap at SFA for instance.....twice in the span of less than a month the ride malfunctioned in a similar manner to an earlier malfunction only three or four seasons prior but this time people were injured when the evacuation procedure somehow went wrong.I know for a fact that it was all over every local news channel in the DC metro area & as a result locals are gonna take one look at the ride's checkered past & not want to ride it next season(I'm sure not gonna) assuming the state allows them to reopen it in 08 so SFA,like SFKK may be better off getting rid of a problematic ride that has caused problems for them both in terms of operations & negative publicity.
  3. Yeah that would be Eric Boardman & Lisa Williams. Eric Boardman went on to do narration for discovery channels extreme rides series back when they were still running that program every memorial day.
  4. That's something that all the foromer paramount parks could use.
  5. Didn't that video come out in 94? I've got a copy of it,along with their "next generation" program as well.
  6. One of the reasons may be Cedar Point desperately needs a more modern and fresh kiddie area. Kiddy Kingdom and the Jr. Gemini are literally a bunch of carnival rides, and Camp Snoopy (as nice as it is), doesn't really have all that much to do. Exactly right & CP,like any park needs to maintain a balance of rides & attractions for all of the family members to enjoy.
  7. It wouldn't suprise me one bit,Snyder promised change & so far has failed to deliver on that promise....the parks are just as neglected as ever, and poorly managed/run but the only "change" has been the pricing for admissions, parking, food & merchandise.
  8. I don't think FOF will be renamed at either park, they dropped the "outer limits" prefix well before CF took over. The only rides I can see at KI getting rethemed are IJ:ST,TG,Face/Off & TR:TR.
  9. Speaking of incidents I'm suprised that they didn't mention that Two face malfunctioned twice within less than a month just before the end of the season. With this drive to remove under-performing attractions I'd say that skull mountain, octopus, tower of doom & perhaps Batwing may soon be removed from SFA's lineup...heck with the two face malfunction I wouldn't be suprised to see that on the chopping block as well which means even less things to ride at a park that's been neglected by SFI for years on end. Fortunately there's KD with their addition of Dominator for the 2008 season though, looks like I'll definitely be going there instead & with a little luck maybe more than once next year.
  10. I can say the same for KD as well as both parks borrowed from each other when it came to theming their individual sections and had similar attractions in their early years. They had a bayern kurve named MT. Kilimanjaro as well located in the southwestern corner of the mountain just to the right of haunted river's big splashdown finale(when you're facing it from the congo entry midway) over by what is now the FOF midway/entry plaza & it was one of my favorites. Did KI's run forward, stop then run backward? I do recall that KD's ran in both directions at super high speed during the ride cycle.
  11. For the love of humanity no!!!!! It's because of paid line jumping systems such as flashpass at six flags that I quit going this season, due in part to the fact that instead of letting two people per train on in the assigned row like they were supposed to they were allowing whole trainloads on the ride at once! I recall an incident that happened at Two Face back in june in which the ops loaded about half the train with flashpassers & DID NOT even bother to open the gates to let the rest of us on the ride when clearly the front(where I was waiting) & back rows were empty. IIRC KD had a similar paid line jumping system back in 01(right around the same time that SFA introduced fastlane, now flashpass) but they quickly abandoned it when one too many fights broke out on ride platforms over it.
  12. That could be preperations for the rumored hyper coming in 09,don't you think that if KI were adding a new ride, along with VF & WOF for 2008 they would've announced it in the chainwide cap ex press release already?
  13. They're moving fast at getting this thing done but you know what I can't stand? I can't stand the idiots on the cwmania forums arguing over the angle of the drop....the press release states an 85 degree angle while they tend to think it falls short of that but I say who cares what the angle of the drop is.
  14. True but remember,SFI was overconfident in their business strategy as well & look at what it got them....a huge debt & a change in ownership.
  15. It sure looks that way,it's the same type of chainwide announcement that SFI did back in september...in which every park but SFKK & SFA announced new rides for 2008. That's the only thing that I'm dissapointed in: nothing for me to look forward to locally in '08. Both SFKK and KI aren't known to be getting anything. I must say I'm a little suprised that BB isn't getting a small renovation and/or expansion such as Carowinds is doing. BB is a big draw and we've had two coasters, and a kids area overhaul since it's introduction. I'm just glad to see KD getting something "new" as 2008 will mark five years straight that SFA hasn't added any new investments into the ride side of the park, after that announcement came out in september I simply stopped going for the remainder of the season & won't be returning there as a pass holder in 2008.
  16. It sure looks that way,it's the same type of chainwide announcement that SFI did back in september...in which every park but SFKK & SFA announced new rides for 2008.
  17. Why is it that the recaR has consistantly shorter lines? Or less people in the trains? LOL,at KD Rebel yell backwards has a longer line than the forward side...and even then it's still not more than a three train wait if the park is running both trains on each side. Now what I hate about it is having to walk through the insanely long queue line that leads from the midway & into the station but at least the trade off for that is usually plenty of rerides if you get the right seat. A couple years back a friend & I rode the forward side a record 15 times in a row without having to exit other than to switch rows when someone was waiting for our seat.
  18. The three parks mentioned are CGA,CP & Carowinds so it looks like VF,WOF & KI will be taking the 2008 season off as far as new rides go,which is what I pretty much expected after the addition of Firehawk for the 2007 season. Don't be too disappointed though, remember there's that rumored hyper that's possibly coming to KI in 2009,I'm suprised though that there's no mention of BLMR from GL becoming part of CP's lineup as the result of the Peanuts playground rennovation.
  19. Didn't the park simply repaint the original trains while removing the onboard electronics for the linear actuators?I suspect that KD will do the same thing & simply take the trains into the body shop on site & repaint the shells & seat backs. The restraint pads can easily be repainted as well without the need for new ones.
  20. http://www.coastercrew.com/ The new color scheme for Dominator at Kings Dominion has been revealed. The new colors will be similar to Talon at Dorney park, with orange track & blue supports while the trains will be repained in yellow, with purple seats & orange restraints.
  21. Thunderhawk from GL is a vekoma SLC remember? Clermont steel only fabricates track for B&M designs.
  22. MIA's getting GL's SLC remember? SFGRAM already has an invert so it wouldn't go there either. Now has anyone looked at how huge the spine is on Behemoth's track? It's certainly bigger than the spine on a B&M invert that's for sure.
  23. I wouldn't expect anything major for 2008 after recently adding Firehawk. Now if there are construction preps taking place back in that area I'd expect to see markers showing up sometime next season in preparation for a new ride installation coming in 2009 although for something as big as a hyper it wouldn't suprise me if they started marking the area now.
  24. I guess the same can be said for KD's Grizzly after the de-forestation with that piece of firewood known as Hurler & the white monument known as HS:XLC on one side & thunder raceway on the other side but come sunset you can hardly tell that there aren't as many trees there. A new hyper would do well at both parks....I swear with both SFA & BGE having hypers why hasn't KD added one yet?
  25. I don't think the height restrictions on Vu were dictated by the restraints but instead were determined by the structural design....foot choppers anyone? Don't forget, the SLC's,Invertigo's & flying dutchman all have an 80 inch maximum height restriction....I swear why does vekoma seem to just adore the 80 inch number as a cut off for safe rider height on their products?
